I am a new Visual Web Developer 2010 express user, are their any tool items or addins I can use to help me implement blog/forum type functionality or do I have to construct this functionality in VB from scratch?

1. I've downloaded free Visual Studio C# 2010 Express and Visual Studio Web Developer 2010 Express
2. I've successfully installed these versions.
3. I've tried registration online - and got the appropriate keys which I've used for registration.
Finally all the keys I've got are not valid for the system - and after 30 days evaluation (for free version?) period all these products are not running anymore because all the keys I am providing from online registration are invalid.
I have several css style sheets I want to work with. I have copied them into the appropriate directory structure in my project. The styles are applied correctly.But the manage CSS styles tool bar on the left margin doesn't seem to work correctly. At one point I had generated a style sheet and worked with it there, but now it not only can't find the one it generated, but the attach style sheet link doesn't respond at all, nor does anything in this bar. Same deadness with the CSS Properties bar. With or without a style sheet loaded in the editor -- a style sheet that is active in the project such that when I run it, the styles are applied.VB version of studio, running on Vista home basic.PS, the design mode works a lot better than the professional version I use in my day job on XP and server 2003.
View 2 RepliesI am using Visual Studio 2008 Express and I read some where that it doen't support the "publish" menu option.
The article said I need to run "Aspnet_Compiler" from the command line. What do they mean by "command line" ?? I tried using "Aspnet_Compiler -v /MyFirstWebSite" in the "Run Command" and it indicate that it can find it.
How do I use this ?? Or is there an easier way to publish my website design I did in Visual Studio 2008 Express ??
Or if I move my design into Visual Studio 2010 Express, will the publishing be easier?? If so, how do I move the complete project over ?? Is it as easy as to install VS 2010 Express and open my project ?
I started working on a website using 2010 Express. However, the hosting company that I am using hasn't fully implemented .NET 4.0. I'm wondering if there is a way that I can save my website for compatability with 2008 express. Then I can finish and publis using 2008 Express.

View 3 RepliesI'm working with Visual Studio 2010 and for Data Connections am connecting to a SQL Server 2000 production database. When I try to drag a table to a .dbml file, the Object Relational Designer says, "The selected object(s) use an unsupported data provider." If I try to create an .edmx file via Generate from database, then the alert is, "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later."
So VS 2010 has no support for the Data Entity Framework or LINQ when connecting to a SQL Server 2000 database? If that is the case, what is the best data access strategy for this scenario?
I want to write a page where user's can write a blog post and publish it to the blog. I've downloaded blog engine .NET and looked at the code and I like the way they do it, but it's completely an overkill of what I need. What I need is only a title, author, date, and the blog post it self. I don't even want users to post comments or anything like that. My approach is to save all those blog post information into an xml and then when a page loads it loops around those xml files to show the blog post.

When I try to drag and drop a control (any control) like a button, it appears that the control is being dragged. User selects PubCode 'WSJ' from the DDL1 This action fills the values for DDL2 that shows the column SubscriberType from the table PubCodeInfo using the sql : select * from [PubCodeInfo] where PubCode = [selected value from DDL1]
How can I do this? I think I need Enable AutoPostBack on DDL1.

View 1 RepliesThis is just a small problem with some form of workaround im sure.I'm ready to publish my ASP.NET website, however, there is no 'Publish' option when I right click the project in solution explorer or even a Build Tab on the menu. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 and having done some research they all refer to this option in the Tab menu when I don't even have the Build tab myself.I did also see something to Download but I accidently closed the tab in a hurry - WebPI is it? Will this work?
The reason I want to 'Publish' ideally via MS VWD 2010 Express is that in previous versions (VS 08) when it 'Publishes' is combines the .cs/vb files with their respective pages rather than upload them as seperate files through FTP.I know some changes need to be done with the web.config file so If there is any info on that and other essential info I need to know please help me out (links references wud do! :P)

View 2 RepliesI am using a web application project in visual web developer express 2010 on Windows 7 x64 targeting .net 4.0. I've linq to sql quite a bit with visual studio 2008 and it worked with no issues. I added a dbml file to the root of my web site and dragged over my data model. When I run my project, I get the following error:
Type 'DataClasses1DataContext' is not defined. The line of code it is having a problem on is Dim db As DataClasses1DataContext = New DataClasses1DataContext()
However, intellisense is recognizing dataclasses1datacontext as a valid class. If I view the code on the dbml file, it has essentially an empty class definition. It appears it didn't actually generate any code relating to my data model. I tried adding system.data.linq, etc to my web.config file but it didn't make a difference. I always get the error above. Again, I'm using a web application project which appears to function a little differnetly than a web site project. Any ideas why I can't get this basic functionality that was working in 2008 to work in 2010?
install Visual Studio 2010 (with ASP.net framework 4.0) and when I try to install SQL Server Express 2008 I get an error message telling me that .NET framework 3.5 SP1 is required.I know in the installation of VS 2010 SQL Server Express is installed. However I need to have the management studio install. I have tried installing both the full version of SQL Server Express 2008 and the front end management studio for SQL Server 2008nly.

I am creating a helpdesk application with SQL and after the user submits the form I want the form to display the ticket number. It is setup as an identity field in SQL. I would also like to be able to display a message that says something to the user as opposed to just displaying the blank form again.
