CSS - Friendly Control Adapters Removes EmptyDataTemplate And EmptyDataText
Oct 4, 2010
As pointed out in the question:
EmptyDataTemplate and EmptyDataText not working in GridView
using CSS-Friendly Control Adapters removes the data that would would be populated by EmptyDataTemplate or specified in EmptyDataText in GridView. One of the solutions is to disable the addapters for GridView components as specified in this answer Is there a solution, that would allow to keep the use of CSS-Friendly Control Adapters for GridView and still take advantage of EmptyDataTemplate functionality?

I have a tab bar already set up and working using CSS Friendly Controls, but how can I navigate to another page while keeping the selected tab as selected. Without the navigateurl everything works. The selected tab uses the selected css like it is suppose to.
The tab bar I have is dynamically created meaning the tab names are pulled from my db. I am allowing users to create tabs, so I cannot create a sitemap.
When I add the navigateurl the new page opens, but the selected tab does not work.

I can't seem to get either EmptyDataTemplate or EmptyDataText of a GridView to work. I'm fetching the GridView contents in de codebehind and attaching them with using DataBind(). I've tried having them as null and as an empty List, and in both cases the text I put into EmptyDataTemplate or EmptyDataText is not displayed. What am I doing wrong?
EDIT (Code snippet) This is my GridView:
<asp:GridView ID="grid" runat="server" EmptyDataText="EMPTY">
</asp:GridView>
And I've tried these two for binding the data:
grid.DataSource = new List<object>();
grid.DataBind();
grid.DataSource = null;
grid.DataBind();

I am using both the Mobile Device Browser File and a custom .browser file.
In the custom .browser file, there are several ControlAdapters registered. I would like to specify in my custom .browser file to use different ControlAdapters if the detected device is mobile (provided the Mobile Device Browser File lists it as mobile). How do I do that in my custom .browser file? I do not want to modify the Mobile Device Browser File.I am using something like this, but it is not working
<browser refID="Default">
<controlAdapters>
<adapter controlType="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Menu"[code].....

I've tried to implement two different solutions that use either and HttpModule or and HttpHandler to do URLRewriting for me. These work great on IIS 7 within my local development environment in Integrated and Classic modes. Currently the production server is running IIS 6.0 on a shared hosting environment. It appears that the request at least hits both the Module and Handler as the URL above redirect to the particular friendly url, but it doesn't redirect and hit hte Module or Handler again. Instead I get a 404 error for the friendly URL.

I was having issues with a gridview and CSS so I posted my question here and received a wonderful answer which lead me to implementing CSS Friendly Adapters for all of my gridviews.I have a table nested in the EditItemTemplate that holds the textbox and the button for a calendar control where I want them, it inherits the CSS applied from the CSS Friendly Adapters. I don't want it to change the CSS so I have changed the CSS inline, with no success. More importantly...
I also have a Ajax calendarExtender control to change the date for that field. When the popup is displayed the table in which the calendar is shown in also inherits the CSS Friendly Adapters code. I have tried fixing this by creating a external css sheet for the calendarExtender's cssClass property and a blending of CSS occurs where the items not specified by the Friendly Adapter Code are set correctly by the calendar.css file that I created.Is there anything that I can do to force the tables inside of the gridview to ignore the inherited Friendly Adapter Code?

I have been trying to create a sql statement that uses a subquery to join 2 oracle tables to create a strongly typed table adapter. For example:
Select productName, (select categoryName from categories where categories.category_id = products.category_id) as Category from Products
The ASP .Net tutorial I am working through recommends using subqueries instead of joins for the insert, update and delete commands to be automatically generated by Visual Studio 2010. When I click Finish in the table adapter wizard I get the following error (I am using MySQL version 5.1 and the MySQL Data Connector 6.3.5)
Generated SELECT statement.
Error in SELECT clause: expression near 'SELECT'.
Error in SELECT clause: expression near 'FROM'.
Missing FROM clause.
Error in SELECT clause: expression near','.

Does somebody have a clue about my following issue? I have a gridview with it's datasourceid set to "ods". I have two objectdatasources. One is called "ods" which contains a list with all contracts. The second objectdatasource is called "odsAuthorized" which contains a list with all authorized contracts.
Now i have two linkbuttons "Show All " | "Show Authorized" whith an onClick event where i set the datasourceid of the grid.
When i click the "show authorized" i see a list of all contracts which are authorized. Now when i click on "Show all" is see a list with all contracts. So the onClick events work fine, however. When i change the status in the database so i have 0 authorized contracts, and click on the "Show Authorized" i get to see a label which says "Sorry no records have been found" because i have set the EmptyDataText property on the gridview. Now when i click on Show All, the onclick event for the Show All button never gets fired. I do see that a postback occurres. But i don't come into the event. Does anybody have a logica for this?

I would like to be able to set the EmptyDataText property using code-behind. I have created a custom GridView control called PagingGridView. Here is the definition:
public class PagingGridView : GridView {
}
In my ASPX page, I would created a new GridView definition by doing this:
<cc:PagingGridView id="MyGrid" runat="server" ><cc:/PagingGridView>
When I databind the control, I would like my custom control to automatically detect an empty data source and build a table with all the header columns and a row containing the empty data text. The rendered code for the empty data source would be like:
<table>
<tr>
<td>Col1</td><td>Col2</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="2">No Records to display</td>
</tr>
</table>
My initial thought was to override the EmptyDataText property but I could not get that to work.

I am working on a site using .aspx controls. Currently I am working on a search feature which searches my database of records and produces all applicable results to the search. Everything works as planned. I have recently added the EmptyDataText line to produce a specific output anytime no results are found in the database. However, I would like to be able to alter/change the appearance of the EmptyDataText output and cannot figure out how to do so. For example, if no results are returned from the search, I would like the EmptyDataText to produce an output of something along the lines of "Your search has produced zero results.
double check your spelling and try your search again." I would like to change the font color, font size, and possibly the thin box which is automatically produced around this output. Is any of this possible? If not, is there another way to produce the desired results? Ultimately, I would actually like to have the results actually use the terms which were input to the search within the EmptyDataText results when no search results are found within my database. For example, if "widget" was used as a search term and "widget" was not found within my database then i would like the results page to state something along the lines of: "Your search for 'widgets' did not return any results. check the spelling and try your search again." Does anyone know how to do any of these things using ASP.Net?

I've got a dropdownlist and a Gridview Based on the choice from the dropdownlist (which has a '--Select--' as the first item), the gridview is populated. If nothing is in the database when queried, I have a message for the emptydatatext property of the gridview. However, it comes up when the page first loads, since it's based on the ddl. How can I make it so that, when the page loads for the first time, the emptydatatext property is ignored?

I have an AJAX NumericUpDown Control that takes a decimal. If I put in 1.30, it removes the zero. I do not want to remove the zero, it must remain at 1.30.
A demo of this can be found here: [URL]
For example, enter 1.30 in the text box then tab out or click somewhere else. The zero is removed.

I have an ASHX handler or an ASPX page (the problem happens in both cases).
The web client sends a request containing If-None-Match and/or If-Modified-Since headers but context.Request.Headers.Get("If-None-Match") or context.Request.Headers.Get("If-Modified-Since") is null in the handler.
The same script works in my local development machine but it doesn't work in the online machine (both are running IIS7 on Win 2008, .NET 3.5)

I have some weird problem. We're using Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 (8 Cores and
8 GB RAM) with IIS 7.5 and ASP.NET MVC 2.
I always cache (simple) stuff via the context cache and it seems like 9 out of 10 immediate page refreshs the Cache["MyKey"] is always null, even though there's no memory limit set on the pool and the server has lots of free memory.
I add expiring data via:
[Code]....
When just doing: Cache.Insert("MyKey", myObject); or Cache["MyKey"] = myObject; I get the same result (cache is almost always null for that key).
As you can see I added a callback, which writes the CacheItemRemovedReason to a text file, and the text file says CacheItemRemovedReason.Removed for MyKey. The doc for CacheItemRemovedReason.Removed says, that I call Remove/Insert on it, even though in my whole project there's no "Remove"-calls, just simple if(Cache["MyKey"] == null) {Cache["MyKey"] = ...} stuff.
I tried adding:
<caching><cache disableMemoryCollection = "true" disableExpiration = "true" privateBytesLimit="0" percentagePhysicalMemoryUsedLimit="90" privateBytesPollTime="00:02:00" /></caching>
to my web.config file in the System.Web-section but nothing changed :(
why Cache["MyKey"] is almost always null?

using asp.net/vb.net 2005
In the aspx page I have the EmptyDataText property set
[Code]....
However when no records are not returned I am not seeing the text "No Results Returned" I am populating the gridview using a SqlDataSource. I am not sure why this is happening but thinking about setting the value programmatically, does this make sense and if yes which gridview event should I do this? has anyone else experienced something like this before?

I haven't been able to find relevant information through searches. I'm very green when it comes to sever side scripting. I have an ASPX page with a standard form. In the head I have meta tags, the title tag, and a link tag neatly ordered on their own lines. However, when viewing the source code after publishing to the server, the spacing between the tags is removed and it looks quite messy. (There are also <style> and <script> tags that follow, but they remain unaffected.)
I realize this has no practical effect on the site itself (in an SEO sense or otherwise). My project manager shows the source code to our clients to educate them on meta tags and page titles. It would help if it wouldn't become jumbled like this. I wonder if this is a common issue and if it's possible to prevent through better coding practices. HTML as authored, with tags separated on their own lines:
HTML Code:
<head runat="server">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<meta name="description" content="Welcome to Lawn Care Waukesha - Cut My Lawn. Cut My Lawn - Lawn Care Services has offered quality lawn cutting, fertilizing, aerating, and much more at affordable pricing since 2002! We currently offer lawn care service to Waukesha, Brookfield, Pewaukee, Menomonee Falls, and surrounding communities." />
<meta name="keywords" content="lawn cutting, lawn mowing, lawn care, fertilizing, aeration, mulching, shrub trimming, lawn mowing, edging, pruning, mulching, weed control, waukesha, Brookfield, Pewaukee, menomonee falls" />
<title>Lawn Care Waukesha — Cut My Lawn, Lawn Care Service</title>
<link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="favicon.ico" />
HTML after being processed by the sever, with all the tags running together:
HTML Code:
<head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><meta name="description" content="Welcome to Lawn Care Waukesha - Cut My Lawn. Cut My Lawn - Lawn Care Services has offered quality lawn cutting, fertilizing, aerating, and much more at affordable pricing since 2002! We currently offer lawn care service to Waukesha, Brookfield, Pewaukee, Menomonee Falls, and surrounding communities." /><meta name="keywords" content="lawn cutting, lawn mowing, lawn care, fertilizing, aeration, mulching, shrub trimming, lawn mowing, edging, pruning, mulching, weed control, waukesha, Brookfield, Pewaukee, menomonee falls" /><title>
Lawn Care Waukesha — Cut My Lawn, Lawn Care Service
</title><link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="favicon.ico" />
I'm not sure it's relevant, but here's the script used to send the form (which I didn't write, by the way). It's the final tag inside the page head:
HTML Code:
<script type="" runat="server">
Protected Sub SubmitForm_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
If Not Page.IsValid Then Exit Sub
Dim SendResultsTo As String = "email"
Dim smtpMailServer As String = "smtp"
Dim smtpUsername As String = "email"
Dim MailSubject As String = "subject"
Try
Dim txtQ As TextBox = Me.FormContent.FindControl("TextBoxQ")
If txtQ IsNot Nothing Then
Dim ans As String = ViewState("hf1")
If ans.ToLower <> txtQ.Text.ToLower Or ans.ToUpper <> txtQ.Text.ToUpper Then
Me.CutMyLawnForm.ActiveViewIndex = 3.......................
