Caching The Xml Response From A HttpHandler

Or do I only have the option of caching the DataTable object?

I have an HTTPHandler that returns some XML. I am trying to figure out how to get this to cache in the browser, as if it were a static XML file.
I've tried this along with a few other variations and other Cache options, but nothing I do seems to make it cache (according to Fiddler).
how I can cache the output on the client's browser?

If we use an aspx page with a Caching Profile, the server caches images that are loaded with the aspx page. So if ten clients load the same image through the aspx page (same url), for one client the image is gotten out of the db, for the nine others it is cached.When we use a HttpHandler, this doesn't happen. The image is always fetched from the database. We have tried all different settings without any success. (we have checked this link and have not been able to cache on server side).
View 1 RepliesAfter hours of searching in google, the best examples I could find it creating handlers and writing to its response object. I created an httphandler and invokes using jQuery on my html page. I write the result to variable "deliveryText"and send it viaresponse object but when on my html page when I click submit, it executes jQuery code and my httphandler returns html which is written to the page. What I want is to get that reponse in function(data) and assign it to a div name divData rather then displaying raw html on page.
Here is my code for reference,

I am trying to cache asp.net page response on client Browser by adding following cache headers
Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(10));
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(System.Web.HttpCacheability.Public);
With the above headers it is not working.. May I know what else to be added?
I am using jquery from client side to get the page response
I used following to cache my ASP.NET page.
Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(60));
The problem is when I send AJAX (XmlHttpRequest) request from other page to this page, that response does not get cached on any browser but IE. (On IE, it gets cached even if I don't specify). How do I make it cache?
I have some code that is used to replace certain page output with other text. The way I accomplish this is by setting the Response.Filter to a Stream, Flushing the Response, and then reading that Stream back into a string. From there I can manipulate the string and output the resulting code. You can see the basic code for this over at [URL] However, I noticed that Page Caching no longer works after the first Response.Flush call.
I put together a simple ASP.NET WebApp as an example. I have a Default.aspx with an @OutputCache set for 30 seconds. All this does is output DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString(). I override Render. If I do a Response.Flush (even after the base.Render) the page does not get cached. This is regardless of any programmatic cacheability that I set. So it seems that Response.Flush completely undermines any page caching in use. Why is this?
extra credit: is there a way to accomplish what I want (render output to a string) that will not result in Page Cache getting bypassed?
ASPX Page:
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="TestCacheVsFlush._Default" %>
<%@ OutputCache Duration="30" VaryByParam="none" %>
<%= DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString() %>
Code-behind (Page is Cached):
protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
base.Render(writer);
}
Code-behind (Page is not cached):
protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
base.Render(writer);
Response.Flush();
}
Code-behind (Page still is not cached):
protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
base.Render(writer);
Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Server);
Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(30));
Response.Flush();
}
I have a page with a number of user controls, In one of my user controls I have a button event. I turn on output cache for the user control that has the button and vary by control using the ID property of a hidden field control in the user control. whenever I turn on the output cache my button event doesn't fire.

View 2 RepliesI am not able tto understand the differnce between REspose.Expire and Response.ExpiresAbsolute?
Is it mandatory to use both toghter?

I am using this code to download and its working well for me.But i cant understand the code.Can someone explain me this code to me please?
Response.AddHeader is used to add a new HTML header,but what is an HTML header all about?and the parameters i am passing within it as the name and value;what are they?
So,I have this code:

Even though I have buffer set to false,no text is displayed.I have tried adding a response.flush,with and without changing the buffer value.What exactly is wrong?I've also tried it with and without the label(i.e. with or without just Response.Write)
I have a static method that I use to control REST styled HTTP codes when my mvc application encounters an exception.
The method looks like:
[Code]....
This is static becuase then I can call it within an action or inside a filter. The problem I am having is that when I call RaiseException inside a filter, it stills goes into the requested action. Response.End() doesn't seem to have any effect. Any clues on how I can get Response.End() to work when called?
In an ASP.NET application, I need to do some changes on every CSS file sent.So I created an HttpHandler (inside the app itself), added:
<add verb="*" path="*.css" type="MyWebsite.CssTestHandler,MyWebsite"/>
to Web.config in system.web/httpHandlers and modified the handler like this:
public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
{
context.Response.Clear();
text.Response.Write("Hello World");
context.Response.End();
}
Is it necessary to call Response.End() after Response.Redirect(url) Update for all the answers. Because some answers say that it's necessary and others say no, I have searched more and have found in msdn under remarks the following: Redirect calls End which raises a ThreadAbortException exception upon completion.
View 5 RepliesI'm using Response.Filter in order to implement stream compression in accordance with HTTP Request Header Accept-Encoding
Here's the important stuff:
if (AcceptEncoding.Contains("deflate") || AcceptEncoding == "*")
{
HttpApp.Response.Filter = new DeflateStream(PreviousOutputStream, CompressionMode.Compress);
HttpApp.Response.AppendHeader("Content-Encoding", "deflate");
}
By and large this works as intended. However, I'm in a situation where I'm using an ActionResult on an MVC Controller to serve up files to the user agent:
Response.Clear();
Response.Headers["Content-Type"] = contentType;
Response.Headers["Content-Length"] = contentLength;
if (Request.QueryString["dl"] == "1")
{
Response.Headers["Content-Disposition"] = "attachment; filename=" + fileInfo.Name;
}
Response.Flush();
Response.TransmitFile(fileInfo.FullName);
To be more exact, the action method returns new EmptyResult() after the Response.TransmitFile() call. This works exactly as intended without the Response.Filter modification.
In this situation, the response entity reaches the user agent garbled and unintelligible. FireFox's Poster addon shows empty entities or jumbled entities coming back.
i know how to implement this thing..
but i have few question like..
wot is the major purpose of using HttpHandler & HttpModules..
and how they work with page life cycle..?did they get executed b4 page life cycle..?where i got more control and more power
in order to utilize HttpHandler & HttpModules..
Can u explain me what ASHX HttpHandler uses for?

View 2 RepliesI have created a HttpHandler to be used with SWFUpload to upload images to the server. This upload is done in an administration backend so users need to be authenticated to upload images.Initially I made the whole administration area deny annonymous users but because of the way SWFUpload appears to work it wouldn't work correctly with Forms authentication and would return a 302 status code.I had thought it would be possible to make the location of my handler public in Web.config and use context.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated in my handler to determine if the user is logged in.
View 3 RepliesHow can I tell from within an ASP.NET HttpHandler if it is executing because of a call to Server.Execute("myHandler.ashx")or because of the user linking directly to myHandler.ashx? (Besides using a querystring parameter).
View 2 RepliesAs i know that asp.net fulfill all the requirements for any web application but what are the ground rules for creating custom httphandler and httpmodule in asp.net.Edit:For example I want to fetch image from database then what i should i use httphandler or normally read image from database.If httphandler then why?
View 4 RepliesIm trying to write a small web application for forwarding requests to my page to the new pages on my web site. First off im implementing a IHttpHandler and in the ProcessRequest method i simple want to print out the requesting page, my conde looks like this:
public class RedirectHandler : IHttpHandler

public bool IsReusable
{

Can a httphandler in .net return a value? If yes how?
View 2 RepliesSo I am working on a project in ASP.NET MVC 2 with C#.I have a View with a file upload but this is a flash component (.swf).The result of the file upload (the storing of the file and processing of data in the database) is done in a HTTPHandler.I would like the HTTPHandler to send information to my active controller.
Is there a way to get the controller that was used to load the view? I'm having problems finding information about it online.
