View 3 RepliesMy requirement is to get the file size in client side. there is no problem in FF but in IE you can't do that unless u r using an activeX object. So we thought of putting it in browser cache and reading the file size from there and when we post it to the server we will be taking it from the cache and send it to the server.

When the user selects the list of files from a page and hit's download selected, then a post back happens to server and starts zipping on the server. This works great until we hit the timeout on the page ( which is default to 90 seconds ) and just returns the process to the page even though the backend process is still zipping. Is it possible to show the size of zip file when the file is being zipped instead of waiting till the end to provide the download link?
View 1 RepliesI am working on ASP.NET3.5 platform. I have used a file upload control and a asp button to upload a file. Whenever i try to upload a file which contain special characterlike (file#&%.txt) it show crash and give the messeage "Server Error in 'myapplication' Application." A potentially dangerous Request.Files value was detected from the client (filename="...New Text &#.txt"). Description: Request Validation has detected a potentially dangerous client input value, and processing of the request has been aborted. This value may indicate an attempt to compromise the security of your application, such as a cross-site scripting attack. You can disable request validation by setting validateRequest=false in the Page directive or in the configuration section. However, it is strongly recommended that your application explicitly check all inputs in this case.
Exception Details: System.Web.HttpRequestValidationException: A potentially dangerous Request.Files value was detected from the client (filename="...New Text &#.txt"). Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below. how can i prevent this crash using javascript at client side?
Using C# .NET 3.5 with VS 2008.
I've been playing with the FileUpload control for an upcoming project where the user is allowed to upload up to five files at once, but each file can only be 5MB in size. Simple enough all I would need to do is add in the httpRuntime element to the web.config and up the file size and timeout.

what I'm really getting at is there a better way to trap if the file size is too large before processing while using the FileUpload control. I would like to be able to keep the user on the same page but update a label control.
If I want to increase the upload size which part of should I edit in the code below:
<system.web>
<httpRuntime executionTimeout="240" maxRequestLength="20480" />
<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0"/> </system.web>
I use file upload control. How I can define that user can upload 300kb if they upload more than 300kb it show error that they can't upload more than 300KB...
View 1 Repliesi use these code to set limit size for image that users want to upload
protected void BtnUploadS_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string path = Server.MapPath(".") + "../image/House";
[Code]....
here i define if (fup1.PostedFile.ContentLength < 102400) this size for image but when i upload image that has more than this 100KB it show error ===File size of 756 KB is exceeding the uploading limit but it upload file i don't want users can upload file morethan 100KB but here show error but upload image why?
I do not want to change the default settings for file upload, 4Mb is more than enough for the project I'm working on. After quite a bit of searching I found two approaches that were purported to work but neither one is preventing the "Maximum request length exceeded" error. The first approach[see ref. #1 below] performs validation with a custom validator and in code behind on the page that contains the FileUpload control. It doesn't work. The second approach [see ref #2 below] performs validation in the Application_BeginRequest event in Global.asax. The author stated that validation must be handled by this event. Quoting: "The way to get past is to use your Application_BeginRequest event to handle the problem.. This event takes place for each request to your application BEFORE the data has been completely uploaded. Here you can check for the content length of the request and then redirect to the some error page or the same page with some value in session or query string so that the page can show appropriate message to the user." Here is my code from Golbal.asax based on the above. As noted, this approach doesn't work either.
protected void Application_BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
const int maxFileSize = 4 * 1000000; // Slightly less than 4Mb
if (Request.ContentLength > maxFileSize)
{
Response.Redirect("~/FileUploadError.aspx");
}
}
One comment by a reader of the Global.asax approach was that the value returned by Request.Content.Length would include everything on the page, i.e. viewstate, image and text content, etc. I suppose one work-around would be to set the limit higher in web.config but validate for max. file size in code behind, but that seems kind of silly because I'm manipulating the uploaded files (images) to reduce the size anyway; storage space isn't the issue, performance is. Has anyone managed to solve this poblem?
i am not able to show an alert message when a file is uploaded from a FileUpload control which is more than the size mentioned in web.config file like this in my situation...
"<httpRuntime maxRequestLength="2097151" executionTimeout="3600"/>"
i want to show an alert message when ever user clicks on the upload button if it excceds the size.
To my understanding the clinet side can only send data to the server either by get or post. so basically either through query string (get) or through body of the page (post).
So when we upload a file from client machine and send it to server, what exactly is happening behind the scenes? are we doing a post?
i want show an image in image control as user select an image file through fileupload control. and i not want saving image on the my server

why the following instruction does not work?

I need to upload images from client to server as follows:
1. Server is passing the client a file name
2. Client is checking file extensins to ensure it's an image then issues a __dopostback to the server.
3. Server uses the FileUpload control to save the image on the server.
I have that all covered, but, if image is too large, the upload fails with the following error: 'System.Web.HttpException: Maximum request length exceeded.'
Is there a way to check file size on the client (without the use of ActievX which also errors out), before it is passed back to the server?
I am using ajax tab control,is there anyway to switch from tab1 to tab2 on client click of any element?
View 1 RepliesI am dynamically changing a slider control's maximum value based on an onchange event on a different control.
$find("Slider_13").set_Maximum(ordersPerWeek);
This works successfully. The bar's maximum value has changed, however, my slider can now be moved off of the bar, past the maximum value.
