Conditional Query String Redirect?
Apr 1, 2011
I'm trying to redirect requests that have a query string to a different domain name.I've got a short url, http://short.url and I want to redirect http://short.url?hello to http://long.url/?hello. So the query string has to be kept by the redirect. To make things more complicated, I would like to rediect http://short.url?hello,hello2 to http://long.url/advanced.aspx/?hello,hello2.Here is the rule I've got now (only dealing with the first part of my question)
<rewrite>
<rules>
<rule name="test" patternSyntax="ECMAScript" stopProcessing="true">
[code]...
However, I am not seeing any redirects. Also, is there a better way to do this? Basically I just want to setup a shortcut to pass queries to a website. These are not meant to be permanent so I'm using redirectType="Found".

I moved some of my old asp pages to new aspx website. In all of the old pages i used (for file example.asp):
Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently";
Response.AddHeader("Location","http://www.domain.com/example.aspx");
The problem is that when the page domain.com/example.asp?param=value¶m2=value2 is requested - the redirect ain't working...

I have a page that is used to add info from a gridview into a user's profile. I have explained my issues after all of the code. Here is the applicable code(s) involved:
Protected Sub AddToCart(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As CommandEventArgs)
For Each gvr In GridViewItems.Rows
Dim txtGiftAmt As TextBox = (CType(gvr.FindControl("txtGiftAmt"), TextBox))
If txtGiftAmt.Visible = True Then
Dim customPrice As String = txtGiftAmt.Text.ToString
'HERE is where I would like to set the new price variable value somehow
End If
Next
Dim scart As New ShoppingCart
scart.AddCartItem(e.CommandArgument.ToString())
Response.Redirect("~/ShoppingCart.aspx")
End Sub
This sub is called by the following button when clicked:
[Code]....
Here is the sub from the ShoppongCart Class named AddCartItem:
[Code]....
Here is the problem that I am having: I have one specific item that allows user's to define their own price (for this item only). By putting this price in a session variable seems to be the easiest way to handle this (at least for me), but the session variable's value always "lags behind". By this I mean that the first time the items is entered, it uses the default value of cartItem.ItemPrice. The second time the same item is added (with the intention of a different price), this new item's cartItem.ItemPrice is set
as the first session("customPrice").
Because the user is selecting his/her own price for this item, I am not worried about lack of security involved with using query string to pass this price, but I can't get the string passed to the ShoppingCart class correctly (shows up null). Is there a way to append this customPrice to the current page's query string before the Response.Redirect takes place? If I understand this correctly, the Response portion "posts back" to the current page before the Redirect sends us on our merry way, right?

What I want I'm trying to do seems very simple, but I'm having difficulty in understanding what modifications (properties or classes) to make and where (web.config? source code? master.site?)
All I'm attempting to do, using the login.aspx script in Visual Studio 2010, and based on the roles to which I had configured in the ASP.NET configurator, to include access rules, is redirect users to different URLs based upon whether they are Admin or Manager or User.
I'm seeing many different suggestions on the internet, I don't know where to start. =/

Sure could use some guidance and clarification here. This is an ASP.NET 3.5 app built with VS2008.The data is provided through a strongly typed dataset and TableAdapters containing Ad Hoc queries. A requirement on the project was recently modified. Previously, this query was used to select records based on a specified ZoneID:
[Code]....
The requirement now is that if no ZoneID is selected, the page passes a value of 0, it ignores the WHERE statement and selects all records. Otherwise, it passes the integer value to ZoneID and selects all records associated with that ZoneID.
I have tried several variations including CASE statements in the WHERE clause and surrounding the entire query. I also tried [Code]....
By including a SET statement in SQL Server Management Studio, this works. However, Ad Hoc queries in TableAdapters do not support DECLARE statements.
This also did not work: [Code]....
And neither did this: [Code]....

In my repeater I am attempting to set the label format based on a value from my datasource. The following line from my repeater is straightforward enough but now how would I modify it if I wanted the "C2" statement in the ToString to pull from a field in my datasource named "MyFormat" which would contain either the C2 or N0 value? Basically switching the formatting for that label between currency and a double?
<asp:Label runat="server" ID="lblValue1" Text='<%# Convert.ToDouble(Eval("MyValue")).ToString("C2") %>'></asp:Label>
I've attempted to simply insert a statement such as Eval("MyFormat") in place of the "C2" statement but to no avail.

I have a simple ASP.net page:
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<p><asp:TextBox id="input_box" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:Button Text="OK" runat="server" OnClick="run" /></p>
</form>
I want to send input from input_box to a query string, and then keep this input in the input_box when the page reloads.
That's the code behind page:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
input_box.Text = Request.QueryString["input"];
}
protected void run(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string url = string.Format("?input={0}", input_box.Text);
Response.Redirect(Request.Url.AbsolutePath + url);
}
Problem is that when query string is not empty, string from input_box cannot be passed to query string. How to correct it?

We are sending an HTML encoded string in the Query string. It was working fine on IIS 6 (windows 2003). We have recently moved the website to Windows 2008 (IIS 7.x). Since the move any Query String that contains "+" sign i.e., "%2b" gives error on the server "404 -File or directory not found."

I wanted to create a URL like http://localhost/menu.aspx/?id so that on typing this, it displays all the id's in the database. for eg:134
123
543
234
may be the id's which should be displayed after fetching from the database. However, it should be displayed as it it is without any control or without arranging in any gird etc. How can that be done?

if the code below would achieve what I want, which is: Check if the query parameters 'return_path' and/or 'user_state' are present in the query string, and if so append them to the query string of the redirect URI. As I'm not a .NET dev and don't have a server to test this on, I was hoping someone could give me some feedback.
ArrayList vars = new ArrayList();
vars.Add("return_path");
vars.Add("user_state");[code].....

In IE 7, I can right click on my page and select properties and (usually) see the query string that was passed to that page.
How do I see this in FireFox? I am having a bug where I should be passing consecutive numbers in the query string, such as deal_ik=1,2,3,4,5 etc but 5 is missing. So I want to examine the query string that is actually getting passed.

Is there a difference between me using JavaScript to redirect to URL + "?Querystring=value" versus using whatever mechanism ASP.NET uses?
If there is a difference, how can I make the rendered ASP.NET page be submitted to the same URL with a different query string by JavaScript?

I am curious if is out-of-date to use query string for id. We have webapp running on Net 2.0. When we display detail of something (can be product) we use query string like this : [URL]We use query string for reason that user can save the link somewhere and come back any time later. I suppose that we use url rewriting soon or later but in mean time I would like to know your opinion.
