I recently got abused on these forums because I was testing with the cassini in my development environment. So now I use local iis via the settting in the properties --> web tab and then creating a virtual directory.
The problem now is that the url is:
http://Localhost/Website
The problem is that http://Localhost/ is still the root - so its gone and broke all my css and JQuery ajax calls.
I've tried playing with application root setting in the properties tab with no luck. I have been querying the interwebs and realise that I need to do something in IIS -
I am having trouble doing it. Getting error becuase two different web.config file in each one of them. In my ROOT folder I have a web application written in ASP.NET framework 2.0 . Now, I have all kind of sub-folders for other applications in .NET 2.0 or 3.5 . This is the first time I have sub-folder with application in .NET 4.0. There is a conflict between two web configuration files. How can I solve it? I cannot change the Root or other sub-folder, only If there isn't any other way to solve this.
I ran into the following issue when trying to run a test website on IIS 7.5 (Windows Server 2008 R2 DatacenterEdition). The web-app is configured to run with framework version 3.5 in a .Net 2.0 app pool. Also the framework 4.0 beta 2 is installed on the server. The application named 'TestPfade' is located under the website's root named 'Default'. It is not only a virtual directory but defined as an application. The folder structure looks like this: The markup of the sole document reads as follows:
[Code]....
When viewed in a browser the image gets shown because the given relative path is correctly resolved to 'images/Lighthouse.jpg' but the paths to the ajax-framework resources also include the application's root folder and therefor aren't found: 'src="/TestPfade/WebResource.axd?d=1bX...' Here is the complete html-source generated:
How can you request the root default.aspx without specifying it in the url for your root application?e.g. ttp://localhost/MyApp/ instead of http://localhost/MyApp/Default.aspxshould be able to do bothI'm not sure if this is a setting in IIS 7.5 for the application or what.
I am new to the asp .net (c#) technology.I got an assignment to work on a existing C# project which is alreay live and working.I have downloaded all the code files from the given FTP server on my local server.My Local Server Environment Details :OS - WinXP.NET Framework Version - 2.0 ( There are different versions on the machine i.e. 1.0,1.1,2.0,3.0,3.5 but through IIS i have enabled 2.0 because the application is developed in 2.0)Visual Studio - 2003 In the downloaded source code i did not found any solution file to open the project in Visual Studio , So i created the new project and by using the add existing elements i added all the project files to the newly created project.Am i doing right way.Will my application will work when i will upload the code on live server because the solution file would have mylocal machine configuration.Suggest me how can i proceed in long term vision so that in future i do not face any problem during application release.
while running my aspx pages on local iis 5.1 of my system, it doesnot shows the images and also when i tried to login with the same credentials that i was using with visual studio2005 it always give me error of wrong credentials
I have to host an asp.net that user can access that website something like http://111.11.11.11/myapp/homepage.aspx. ( my ip address will be 111.11.11.11). All I have local IIS installed. I want that if any user clicks on the link. He should be able to access that web application.
I have created a virtual directory in IIS(7.0) to create web application using visual studio 2010 ultimate edition. But when i open the Browse option in visual studio to create http hosted website , it vs2010 keeps on teling me that i need to have IIS Component installed. below is the eror message;
To access local IIS websites, you must install the follwoing IIS components
You must run Visual studio in the context of an administrator account. For more information, press F1
NB:i have installed the IIS 7.0 and its running fine
I am planning to deploy and asp.net application to a UNC path and create a virtual directory that points to the UNC path. For example the location of the asp.net application would be:
How can I test an application that I am publishing to a remote provider's IIS7 hosted site, with the VS2008 development server that is built in with VS2008 on an XP Machine?
My membership/roles work perfectly up on the remote host. On ths hosted IIS7 site when I try to access a secure directory it redirects to login, and I am able to login, however when I launch (debug - F5) from VS2008, it will provide that folder/resource, no questions asked. Same build, config, etc... nothing has changed.
I am running XP, and local IIS version installed is 5.1.
My guess is what is happening is that the new format required in the web.config is configured properly for IIS7 deployment, which is why it works remotely, but when running locally through VS2008/XP it is running with an older version on IIS and does not recoginize the new tags.
When I run the application using the Web Developer it works fine. However when I run it using local IIS I get the following error:

My application is working fine in local environment but not working after push code in live. My locale environment and hosting environment both are having same configuration. Same app working fine 2 month before but in different domain but same hosting server.
how to check the both config / any possible to run debug mode in hosting server please let me know. below code used in all page for checking user session status but when I click on any link page redirect to login.aspx I think session got timeout. I don't know why session got time frequently, but this issue not happening in local environment (desktop).
I have an odd scenario. I'm trying to run a 4.0 application under a 2.0 web site. If I have the 4.0 application as a level 1 sub folder on a different web site, it runs fine. However, if I have it running under wwwroot, it gives me an error. Why is it referencing the web config in the root even though this site has its own?
This works: site140webapp | This doesn't: wwwrootsite240webapp
The error I get is: Server Error in '/site2/40webapp' Application. Configuration Error

I'm trying to deploy my web project to my local IIS server (C:inetpubwwwrootlunchbox). By default the in is created inside the project directory - i.e lunchboxin. This setup, however, gives me the following error when I try to open the site:
When I move the in directory outside the project root (i.e C:inetpubwwwrootin), the site opens up just fine. I'm also able to test the web project from Visual Studio without any issues.
Can someone tell me why I have to move the in directory outside the project root to make the site work? What can I do to not have to do this?
We are having an issue where the same set of files behave differently depending on if it is a root IIS website versus an application under an IIS website. The urls produced using ResolveUrl() are different - i.e.:
As the root website, it produces: http://contact.aspx
As an application under a website, it produces: http://domainname.org/DSC/contact.aspx
Both are utilizing the same files. The first example is its own website, the second is a virtual directory made into an application (titled DSC). Both also use the same application pool, and same configuration, document and security settings (I made sure all the settings were the same in IIS between both).
Everything that has been researched indicates ResolveUrl() does refer to the IIS application that the webpage is under. I have also read several places that even if the information isnt completed in IIS (in this case it is), a root website is considered an application. Therefore, it should produce the appropriate web address, but isnt.
I have subdomain "s1" which points to "a" folder. I want to know how could I access to files stored in "b" folder form subdomain "s1". My issue is that files I have some html content which saved in DB Records and their path are base on webroot i.e. "<img src="/b/movie1.avi" /> .Could any one tell me how I could show these files via subdomain "s1"
I want to write a sitemap.xml to the root folder of my website automatically every month. Ofcourse I havent given the IIS_IUSRS group full permissions on the root folder of my website or on sitemap.xml
But what permissions should I give to which usergroup on which folder/file in order to have my ASP.NET application update the sitemap.xml from within the asp.net web application?
So my website works great on my local computer. It also works fine when I use the Copy Web Site feature in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. But I do not want all of my files and the default.aspx to be sitting at the root of my domain name. I want it to be in a subfolder.
So again, it works fine when it's sitting at www.domainname.com
But when I use my FTP program to move the files to:
www.domainname.com/subfolder/
I get an error when I try to visit the site. It's just a general runtime error and does not display the specific error message. It obviously must have something to do with when I MOVE the files/folders from the root of the domain to the subfolder?
I am working on a project that is primarily ASP.NET based. The main project is meant to be deployed to multiple locations for different clients, so one client might be located at website.com/client1 and another at website.com/client2. Within the application, we regularly use the application root operator ~ to get the path to a resource.We also have a bunch of Flex applications that get deployed in there, and many rely on web services within the ASP.NET application. What I'm after is a way to reference the services relative to the application root. Here's an example of the location of some files for two client deployments:
Client A website.com/clientA/swf/FlexApplication.swf website.com/clientA/services/webService.asmx Client B website.com/clientB/swf/FlexApplication.swf website.com/clientB/services/webService.asmx
FlexApplication and webService are both exactly the same, so what I want to do is something like this in the Flex code:
var myService:CustomService = new CustomService(~/services/webService.asmx); myService.callMethod("Test");
I would like to avoid using relative paths for the usual reasons. Is there a good way to do this or a good way to pass the root url to the flex application from ASP.NET?
So, I have a webForm that has an ImageButton. This ImageButton has to open a file (said file is uploaded by the user in another web form. The file is saved to \serverNamefiles; it can be a doc file, pdf file, excel file).
So this ImageButton should open said file as you normally would. It works on debug, however when I publish my site, and run it from my localhost, it doesn't open the file. When I click the ImageButton it just does the postback and nothing happens.
The code for the ImageButton is just:
Process.Start(fileName);
fileName has the full path of the file I want to open, in this case it has: \serverNamefilesmyFile.pdf
