Is there any way to use a Reouser file (.resx) as global outside of App_GlobalResources?
Maybe with some kind of Resource Manager?

Is it possible to put resource files (.resx) within subfolders inside App_GlobalResources? For example:
/App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.resx
/App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.fr-fr.resx
/App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.resx
/App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.fr-fr.resx
Or, are all the .resx files placed directly inside App_GlobalResources? If it is possible to use subfolders, how do you programmatically access resources within subfolders?

We store backup archives in subfolders of a folder on one of the server's external USB drive. I would like to have an ASP.NET app read the contents of this folder so the manager can view the backup files to confirm backups are working and optionally delete these backup files when an old drive is reconnected so it can be used for the next weeks backups.
This backup folder is oubviously outside the server's webroot. Is there some way I can grant authority so the ASP.Net app can access this folder for this purpose? I would be using VS Web Express, so can't create any signed packages and such.

I'm using .resx file in my project. when i build the application the satellite assemblies are created under bin directory. If i add this dll in other application then these satellite assemblies are added in other application bin directory. I want to add only the dll reference, not any other dlls so how to create a single dll for this scenario?

I'm contributing on an I18N project and there's a call to serialize our *.resx files as JSON objects (for whatever reason).
What I'm wondering is:
Is there a way to get a list of all of the valid keys for a given *.resx file so that we could use HttpContext.GetGlobalResourceObject to grab the tokens?
If that won't work, has anyone come up with a clever solution that does?

How to read strings from the MyResource.resx file from c#. I am not calling this from the asp.net page, rather i am calling from my bussiness logic.
Assembly assembly =
this.GetType().Assembly;
ResourceManager resourceManager = new
ResourceManager("MessagesResource",
assembly);
resourceManager.GetString("SCHEME_UNQ");
here i am getting exception,
Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "MessagesResource.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "App_Web_eerdggo8" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed.

For my translations I'm making use of embedded .resx files. Some of these translations I wish to override with another .resx file, which is not embedded (ex. ~/App_Localresources/translations.en-US.resx).
The purpose of this is that after the application is compiled and deployed, a user could change the .resx file manually to override some of the embedded translations.
Is there a way to use the normal ResourceManager for this? (in .NET 4)

How do I read a file located in a same folder where my page resides in in ASP.NET (C#)? I have a page called mypage.aspx and I'm trying to read in a file called foo.txt residing in a same directory as this page.
Is there a way to open that file for reading with File.OpenRead()? Providing a relative path like File.OpenRead("foo.txt") fails b/c of the location of the file.

I'm trying to get log4net working in a 'classic' webforms app, using a log4net XML configuration file that I know is correct, as it is a copy of a file I use successfully with a number of other applications. I have the config.log4net file in the main site folder (C:inetpubwwwroot), and I configure log4net in Global.asax.cs as follows:
protected void Application_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e)
{
var log = LogManager.GetLogger("SomeWebsite");
XmlConfigurator.Configure(new FileInfo("config.log4net"));
// bind log to the DI container
...
}
Whenever I then use the log instance (even within Application_Start) nothing happens, not even an error. I know that if config.log4net is misconfigured, log4net will silently fail, but I am sure that this isn't the problem. I have a feeling it has to do with FileInfo's base path being wrong.

I am trying to deploy my C# based ASP.Net 3.5 webapp
The hosting service provider said "Access 2003 (.mdb) file has to be put in 'access_db' folder in root folder"
I am currently using
OleDbConnection myConn = new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" + Server.MapPath("~/access_db/filename.mdb"));
The folder structure is like
ParentFolder/access_db/filename.mdb
ParentFolder/ProjectFolder/<Project files> (App_Data, bin, *.aspx, web.config)
1) I am using a GridView on another page that doesn't allow to connect to a database outside the project folder. What should I do?
2) How do I modify the programmatic connection string ( shown above) ?

I've added a key/value pair to an .resx file named SharedResources in my App_GobalResources directory.All the examples I've read on line have me trying to access the value as:
[Code]...
However, the intellisense is telling me that (Resources is not a member of '<Default>')
I've also tried this syntax, without the global
Dim MsgTemplate As String = Resources.SharedResources.EmailTemplate
I then get a message that (SharedResouces is not a member of Resources)
The intellisens is showing the following members for Resources
ResourceManger
ResourceReader
ResourceWriter
It should be compiling a global collection based upon the files in my App_GlobalResources directory from what I'm reading.However,I can't find anything to match what everythink on line says I should have available.

I am trying to read a normal string from the web.config file. When I try to read a string from the web.config file the application doesnt seem to read it. I set my sqlconnection string in the web.config file. It reads a sqlconnection string but not a normal string.Here is my code:
web.config file:
<applicationSettings>
<MyApplication.Settings>
<setting name="Colour" serializeAs="String">
<value> "Red"</value>
</setting>
</MyApplication.Settings>
</applicationSettings
This is how I try to call the setting:
string strColour = Properties.Settings.Default.Colour;
I am using .net framework 4.0
