Visual Studio :: Access Value From Resource File In App_GlobalResources Directory?
Jan 27, 2010
I've added a key/value pair to an .resx file named SharedResources in my App_GobalResources directory. All the examples I've read on line have me trying to access the value as:
[Code]...
However, the intellisense is telling me that (Resources is not a member of '<Default>')
I've also tried this syntax, without the global
Dim MsgTemplate As String = Resources.SharedResources.EmailTemplate
I then get a message that (SharedResouces is not a member of Resources)
The intellisens is showing the following members for Resources
ResourceManger
ResourceReader
ResourceWriter
It should be compiling a global collection based upon the files in my App_GlobalResources directory from what I'm reading. However,I can't find anything to match what everythink on line says I should have available.

I have a web application project with a App_GlobalReousrces folder which contains a *.resx file that I would like to access (read) from a separate class library project.
What's the best way to deal with this one?

My objective is to include a JavaScript file in my Custom Server Control, because it's a bit tedious writing all the JS in C#. I've done a lot of searching and most resources seem to say that I need to add the file as an embedded resource, and access that. I found a few pages describing how to do this:
[URL]
They all seem to say I need to, after adding the JS file, change the build action to 'embedded resource' through its properties. However, the only properties I can actually see on the file are 'File Name' and 'File Path'. Right clicking the file in the solution explorer doesn't allow me access to properties, and right clicking (as one of those links suggests) anywhere else doesn't expose it either. I tried looking through VS Options but couldn't find anything, although I get the impression that I have something configured wrong that's not allowing me to see as many properties as I should be able to.

I am just learning application development and my question is so I can demo a project from an Internship for a class at school. I am planning on using Visual Studio 2010 in debug mode for the presentation.
Here it goes:
I created a database utilizing SQL server 2005. I want to take the .mdf file from SQL Server and place it in the App data directory of my application. I am hoping that I do not need to rebuild any datasets that I am currently utilizing. I am utilizing several stored procedures that are in the database, these stored procedure are access utilizing my datasets.
I was able to place the file in the application but I get an exception whenever I try to utilize a stored procedure that was created in the database.
Here is the error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I verified all of my datasets utilize the following connection:
<add name="DerrickConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="|DataDirectory|Derrick.mdf";Integrated Security=True; Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True "
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
Get methods that I built with the query builder in VS work but stored procedures do not.

Is it possible to put resource files (.resx) within subfolders inside App_GlobalResources? For example:
/App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.resx
/App_GlobalResources/someresources/myfile.fr-fr.resx
/App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.resx
/App_GlobalResources/othereresources/otherfile.fr-fr.resx
Or, are all the .resx files placed directly inside App_GlobalResources? If it is possible to use subfolders, how do you programmatically access resources within subfolders?

I'm developing two applications. One is server application and one more is client application and i'm implementing Localization in both the applications. I have used 7 language resource files in both the application. I need to add the reference of server application in my client application to access some global methods and all. After i'm adding the resource file in the application if i build the application it creates folder for each resource file with language culture code (Spanish -> es-ES, French -> fr-FR) under Bin directory.
Similarly if i add the reference of server application into client application then the resource file dll of server application will be added under corresponding langauge culture folder(es-ES,fr-FR) in the Bin directory. But i don't want to create any resource file dll for the application under Bin directory and aslo i need to put all the resource files inside the application only.

For my *.resx files in App_GlobalResouces, what should the Build Action be? The defaults for creating a new resource file have Build Action as "Content", Copy to Output Directory as "Do not copy", and Custom Tool as "GlobalResourceProxyGenerator".
On certain servers I get an runtime error: "CS0101: The namespace 'Resources' already contains a definition..." that points to a "temporary asp.net files" folder. This makes me think that maybe I should be embedding these files so I don't have to worry about this duplicate registration. Or is my error the only real problem and keeping the physical files in the App_GlobalResouces section is fine?

I'm trying to reference a color value, which is stored in a file called Rsource.resx in the App_GlobalResources directory.
In vs 2008, I used to be able to use a line like this:
[Code]....
Now, in VS 2010, that no longer works.
I found a VS 2010 example that suggests I could try
[Code]....
or
<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server"
Text="test", BackColor="Resources.Webresources.sunlight",Visible="false"></asp:Label>
These examples both generate an error that the server tag is not well formed. I'm fairly new to this, so I think my error will be obvious to someone...
What would be the correct way to reference the color value in this case?

I am using the ASP Web Application template from Visual Studio for my website. I created an images folder in the directory directly, and not in visual studio. I cannot get visual studio to show this directory. How do you add directories in visual studio or get it to recognize it. I know most of you are thinking of responding with "Why don't you just create the image directory through visual studio".

I have a Parent and Child Table in MS Access with a one-to-many relationship. I created a query in Access that would produce a result table and I want the contents of this Query to be displayed in a Data Grid in Visual Studio 2008.

I have created an application directory in IIS and specified its physical location in my harddrive. im trying to create a new Http-based website in Visual Studio 2008 but im unable to assign it to that application directory because in the "choose a location" dialog I cant view that application directory under my default web site directory. can someone tell me why? is it because visual studio doesnt have permission to access it. if that is the case how can I edit the permissions of that application directory in IIS so I can allow visual studio to have access to it?

I have a TFS 2008 running on a windows 2003 workgroup, I need the TFS to access (or register) the users in the active directory, so when developers log in to the network they can also have access to TFS.
I have been trying to access the AD from the TFS but I get the error that there is no a trust relationship, I joined the TFS to the domain, I am able to see the users in the AD from TFS but when I want to add them to TFS I receive that error message.
I have been looking for a tutorial on how to set up TFS with an AD environment but I am not able to find anything fully explained.

I'm using the Visual Studio Development Server, with a specific port. Is there a way to add a virtual directory to it?
EDIT:
I'd like to be able to add one or more virtual directories to arbitrary physical directories. For instance: [URL] would map to C:, [URL] etc.

I have a class library and was to add a resource file to it to support both English and Spanish. Any tips as how I can do this? The language will be dictated by the user visiting the site. Would like to have to only load each resource file once and cache or set in static variable and avoid any overheads.

My web site project has been working but suddenly I got this error after my pc hang and rebooted.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
URL in IE is "http://localhost:3771/myweb/Default2.aspx
Searched web and asp.net forums, followed all suggestions but no luck.
What is the reason? Where is the port number "3771" cached? I remved all VS temporary files and it still uses 3771.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
