Also when I take a look at the web.config file there is a section called <assemblies>. And lot of assemblies are added there.

What is the difference between link to the assemblies in the Project file and the assemblies in the web.config file?

Configuration :: How Is Assemblies Used

Aug 30, 2010

I get that assemblies store data about an application, and its components. I am still clouded about several vital functions of this very basic concept and cannot for the life of me find a complete all inclusive reference or explanation of this topic. Exactly how far reaching is this within c#.net development? Where is it stored? How is it stored? Exactly what, in it's entirety is in it and how is it used and when? Please, please do me a huge favor. Do not send me on a wild goose chase to some self serving, obscure site with partial explanations that wastes my time. By the time I'm done studying the information within your referenced site or response, I want all of my questions answered.

Configuration :: Load Assemblies From Remote Machine?

Jun 1, 2010

I'm trying to deploy a website stored on a network shared storage. My problem is that I am unable to load assemblies that reside on the remote machine.I load some assemblies by using

assembly = Assembly.LoadFrom(Uri.UnescapeDataString(new UriBuilder(satelliteExpectedLocation).Path))
where the satelliteExpectedLocation is in the form "file:\10.0.0.85 mpappinMessages.resources.dll".
I got a FormatException on this one, so I modified the path to read "file:////\10.0.0.85\tmp\app\bin\Messages.resources.dll"

Now I get a "System.IO.FileNotFoundException".I read on MSDN that the "File" scheme is to be used for resources on the local machine. But how should I get the resources on the network share?

Configuration :: Output Type Of Class Library Cannot Be Started?

Jul 8, 2010

I copied an entire project:

[Code]....

from one computer running Visual Studio 2008 to another computer running Visual Studio 2008.

I can rebuild/build the solution just fine on the new computer, but, if I select 'start debugging', it goes through the compile/build process and then ultimately pops up a window that says:

"A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly.

In order to debug this project, add an executable to this solution which references the library project. Set the executable project as the startup project."

NOTE: the 'start debugging' runs fine on the older computer..

Architecture :: Naming Conventions&meaning Of Tables Is Not Clear On SQL Server?

Feb 2, 2011

I have been using Sql Server since 2003, and still encouter situations that are just hard to solve :)I know it's a an sql server question, but since it's from a methodology and architecture point of vue, I thought it fit in this forum I am facing a sort of conflict with my current customer :An old sql server database, migrated from sql server 2000 to sql server 2008 (2003 project), which serves an asp.net application and cubes.naming of tables are like the following : tbl_ and Vw and yet procedures have no underscores. The database contains no functions.All object names are abbreviated, without any dictionary to understand what they mean. We have to ask every time.We developed a new module, and followed Pascal Casing, with clear words for the tables meaning.The customer makes a code review and says, that object are not correctly named :) and the meaning of tables is not clear. Names like AnalyticsAxis, is simply not clear. We also are asked to follow tbl.

Web Forms :: Browser Output Doesn't Look Like Web Developer Output Using Nested Master Pages And Css Stylesheets

Apr 18, 2010

First off, suggest better ways if you want rather than patch up this code. I am just starting this project and it is first time I have tried to code a web site so anything you suggest is very much welcomed. I have spent the last 2 and 1/2 days trying to find workable answers to this but none I have found and tried seem to fit. If needed I can email screens shots or code. I am trying to construct a website that will have the same main theme throughout as far as the header, navbars sitemap, and footer go. Naturally the content will vary from page to page. I want to use a single master page and css stylesheet for this main theme and I will change the content format as needed per page because each page may vary somewhat.

However, about 15 of the pages will all use the same format for their content and this format will differ from the rest of the site but the format of the main theme will stay the same. So I am trying to create a nested master page to use to format the just the content area for all these pages while retaining the main theme for the header, etc.. I believe I should use a separate css file with the nested master page to handle the formatting of the content areas for these 15 pages. I have code that looks like it works when viewed in web developer but design view but does not work when viewd through a browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox). So far I have the following done in web developer.

If it helps the code and screen shots follow. Master Page called "Parent.master". For all theme throughout site Nested Master Page called "Lab.master". For the 15 like pages Primary stylesheet file for main theme called "StylesheetNew.css" For site theme Secondary stylesheet file to syle the 15 like formatted pages. It is called Labmaster.css Labs.apsx file to use as first of the 15 like pages.
Finally screens shots from web developer and browser. Sorry try as I might I could not capture screenshots and put them into this post. The problem is that web developer shows all the area (many lines high) with gray background and with the XXX text that I want to allocate for content in the 15 pages. Yet all the browser show is one line of text o a white background followed by the footer. It looks like the LabStyleSheet works in Web Developer but not in a browser.

Use WPF Assemblies In A Web App?

I have an ASP.NET MVC 2 app targeting .NET 4 that needs to be able to resize images on the fly and write them to the response.I have code that does this and it works. I am using System.Drawing.dll.However, I want to enhance my code so that not only am I resizing the image, but I am dropping it from 24bpp down to 4bit grayscale. I could not, for the life of me, find code on how to do this with System.Drawing.dll.But I did find a bunch of WPF stuff. This is my working/sample code (runs in LinqPad).

Trying To Interpret The Meaning Of "mscorwks.dll!StrongNameErrorInfo+0x7688"?

Apr 11, 2010

I am trying to interpret the meaning of "mscorwks.dll!StrongNameErrorInfo+0x7688". I guess it means, that the assembly loaded by the mscorworks.dll has no StrongName? If yes, does this have any negative impact for a web application?

Is it safe to assume that the thread count of 107 means, that web application needed at a peek a maximum of 107 concurrent threads to handle incoming requests?

Using .net 3.5 Assemblies In Web Application?

May 21, 2010

I have an .net assembly build against 3.5 framework. This assembly has a class Foo with two method overrides:

public class Foo {
public T Set<T>(T value);
public T Set<T>(Func<T> getValueFunc);
}

I'm referencing this assembly in my asp.net 2.0 web application to use first override of the Set method (without Func).

But on build I get an error saying that I should reference System.Core to use System.Func delegate... but I'm not using this type...

Is there a workaround to solve this?

PS: There is no option to convert my web application targeting 3.5 framework.

Dynamically Load Assemblies

Feb 2, 2010

I'm trying to write some code to use reflection to load new assemblies. I observed the file system with FileSystemWatcher, so that if anything in the folder changed, I can get notified and then reload them.

Firstly I have an assembly filters.dll loaded. Let's say its version is 1.0.0. Then when I have a new one v1.0.1, I paste it into the folder and replace the older one. Of course this fires "Change" event of FileSystemWatcher, and finally lead to assembly reloading.

Everything works fine, but I just want to know, what would happen to the firstly loaded assembly? Get replaced by the newer one? Or still somewhere in the memory?
