Configuration :: URL Rewrite - Destination Page Not Getting Query String Values?
Oct 14, 2010
I'm trying to implement URL Rewriting into my existing application and have managed to get the page and links working except that my destination page does not get the query string values.Mycde is based on the example below: http://dotnetguts.blogspot.com/2008/07/url-rewriting-with-urlrewriternet.htmlBasically I have a default.aspx page with links to another page; directory_item.aspx?Item_Id=1&Category_Id=1 directory_item.aspx?Item_Id=2&Category_Id=1 and so on... The code in my web config is as follows;

I am trying to get my head around the ASP timer control. What I am trying to achieve is to get a page to reload every 60 seconds but change the url querystring everytime between 3 values
i.e. scroll through
server/page.aspx?value=1
server/page.aspx?value=2
server/page.aspx?value=3
how I have though to do this is to use ASP code to grab the querystring value, and then create the next url. But I am having trouble passing that newly created url to a refresh control. im guessing HTML meta refresh is out of the question as I am using a variable. So from what I can see my option is to use the ASP timer control to count down (after the page has loaded) and after 60seconds load the next url.

I have the following setting in my web.config to redirect to a default page:
<defaultDocument>
<files>
<clear/>
<add value="default.aspx"/>
</files>
</defaultDocument>
For example when a user enters www.homeforhire.com they should be redirected to default.aspx (for operational reasons the user is then redirected to
www.homeforhire.com/home.aspx).
Instead an error is caught in the Rewrite module (which should not be activated). I am using an http module to perform URL rewriting.
It appears as if the default document setup is not working correctly, and the requested page ~/ is being sent to the Rewrite module, causing an error (which is then caught by my error handler and the user is redirected to the home page).
Entering www.homeforhire.com/default.aspx works correctly.
Can anyone tell me why the default document settings in the web.config do not appear to be working?

I am trying to set up a page that has two behaviors. I'm seperating them by URL: One behavior is accessed via /some-controller/some-action, the other is via /some-controller/some-action?customize. It doesn't look like the Request.QueryString object contains anything, though, when I visit the second URL...I mean, the keys collection has one element in it, but it's null, not 'customize'. Anyone have any ideas about this or how to enable this. I'd like to avoid manually parsing the query string at all costs :).

I have a SQL query I'm running in an ASP.NET page. The final parsed SQL needs to contain a list of string values in the WHERE [columnname] IN [values] format. For example, the final query might look something like this:
SELECT PRODUCTNAME FROM PRODUCT WHERE PRODUCTCODE IN ('ABC','DEF','GHI','JKL', /* etc */);
However, the string values in the WHERE clause need to be dynamic. Normally I use parametrized queries to make my code convenient and safe, so conceptually I'd like to do something like this:
String[] productCodes = { "ABC", "DEF", "GHI", "JKL" };
SqlCommand cmd = "SELECT PRODUCTNAME FROM PRODUCT WHERE PRODUCTCODE IN (@ProductCodes)";
cmd.Parameters.Add("@ProductCodes", productCodes);
However, this sort of functionality doesn't appear to exist in .NET. How should I go about implementing this? I could use a foreach loop on the array and run a query with a single value as a parameter for each value, but there could potentially be a hundred or so different values in the array and it seems like querying them separately would be very inefficient.
I've read another question where someone suggested a solution for strongly-typed int parameters, but that method would make me nervous about SQL injection when used with String values, especially since the client may very well be able to influence the input values.
How would you implement this query functionality?
EDIT with DB Details:
The database is SQL Server 2005.

I'm using parameterized sql query to get data from database
string query = "Select * from employee where employee_city in (@value)";
strign city ="'NewDelhi','Bangalore','Mumbai'";
I'm using following code to achive this
[code]...
But this is not giving the result. If run the query in SQLServer query window as "Select * from employee where employee_city in ('NewDelhi','Bangalore','Mumbai')", records are there.
But the same query will not return any records from ADO.Net.

I have a page that lists products from a table based on the querystring. So if I say foo.aspx?fam=1 all the products from family 1 will be listed. How can I make my code list all the values if query string is empty? My SQL command would have to be different...can't really see how I can do this.
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="ds_produtos" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:LocalSqlServer2 %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT DISTINCT [IdProduct], [Name], [Description], [IdFamily], [Price], [Stock] FROM [Product] WHERE ([IdFamily] = @IdFamily )">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:QueryStringParameter Name="IdFamily" QueryStringField="fam" Type="Int32" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>

I have a FileUpload control in the Source page. On the Upload button handler, I read the file into memory (after doing some validations) and since it's always going to be a TXT file, I create a string that I need to pass to the Destination page. I thought of using Cross Page postback and set the PostBackUrl property of the upload button. But it appears that the breakpoint in the Upload button handler is never hit. It directly goes to the Page_Load in the Destination page. If I can't use Cross Page postback and don't want to use Session or the database, how do I pass this string from Source page to the Destination page?

How do I create a query string from photopath on my database.aspx page to my handler.ashx page. I want the handler page to pick up on my photopath string contained here:
protected void GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
protected void GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string PhotoPath;
GridViewRow row = GridView1.Rows[GridView1.SelectedIndex];
PhotoPath = row.Cells[5].Text;
PhotoPath = HttpUtility.UrlEncode(PhotoPath);
HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)
WebRequest.Create(PhotoPath);
HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)
request.GetResponse();
Stream resStream = response.GetResponseStream();
using (System.Drawing.Image img = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(resStream))
{
img.Save("temp.jpg", ImageFormat.Jpeg);
}
}
}
}
}
}
}
and then to retrieve it in my GetImage.ashx handler page here:
public class GetImage : IHttpHandler
{
public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
{
{
string PhotoPath = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString["PhotoPath"];
PhotoPath = HttpUtility.UrlDecode(PhotoPath);
FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)FtpWebRequest.Create(new Uri(PhotoPath));
request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.DownloadFile;
request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("Administrator", "commando");
try
{
FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse();
Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream();
byte[] bytes = new byte[2048];
int i = 0;
MemoryStream mStream = new MemoryStream();
do
{
i = stream.Read(bytes, 0, bytes.Length);
mStream.Write(bytes, 0, i);
} while (i != 0);
context.Response.Clear();
context.Response.ClearHeaders();
context.Response.ClearContent();
context.Response.ContentType = "image/jpeg";
context.Response.BinaryWrite(mStream.GetBuffer());
}
catch (WebException wex)
{
//throw new Exception("Unable to locate or access your file.\nPlease try a different file.");
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
throw new Exception("An error occurred: " + ex);
}
}
}

The IIS URL Rewrite Module ships with 3 built-in functions:
* ToLower - returns the input string converted to lower case.
* UrlEncode - returns the input string converted to URL-encoded format. This function can be used if the substitution URL in rewrite rule contains special characters (for example non-ASCII or URI-unsafe characters).
* UrlDecode - decodes the URL-encoded input string. This function can be used to decode a condition input before matching it against a pattern.
The functions can be invoked by using the following syntax:
{function_name:any_string}
The question is: can this list be extended by introducing a Replace function that's available for changing values within a rewrite rule action or condition?
Another way to frame the question: is there any way to do a global replace on a URL coming in using this module?
It seems that you're limited to using regular expressions and back-references to construct strings - i.e. there's no search/replace mechanism to replace every instance of X with Y in {REQUEST_URI}, without knowing how many instances there are.
I've had a quick glance at the extensibility introduced in the 2.0 RTW and don't see any 'light' means of introducing this.
