DataSource Controls :: How To Update Key Fields Using 'old Values'

Jun 29, 2010

Have been trying to update some key fields but cannot get it working. I have the form working fine updating non key fields. I found some old threads on similar topics but none answering my question. I am using a FormView and a sqlDataSource

Question: What steps do I need to take to update key fields using a formview and a sqldatasource?

Additional Information: I have tried the following

Adding OldValuesParameterFormatString="old_{0}" to sqldatasource Adding to update parameters the old_myfield reference Adding DataKeyNames to the formview (note all key fields are in datakeynames and I only want to update the one)also when using the asp parameters do they need to be in same order as query and repeated as many time as used? Or just the same order as first referenced i.e. only defined once? Or any order?

DataSource Controls :: SQL Query Return Incorrect Number Of Rows?

Mar 29, 2010

I am working on a small project. I ran the query below to get the maximum userid and increase it by 1 to create a new userid. However, when I run the query, it does not display the values that I enter into the database using insert statement. For example, if I open the table called login, I can see there are three records. If Irun the select statement, it only return one record which is the one that I enter manually when I first created the table. If I run the same select statement and give it a user id that I created, it returns the correct result.

DataSource Controls :: DTS - Choosing Mdf File As Destination

May 19, 2010

I've wasted two hours of sleep on a stupid problem. I have an excel 2003 file (xls) that I'd like to import into a table in Sql Server 2008 Express edition. I've done this before, but I can't remember how it's done really. Here's the problem: When I start DTS, I set the excel file as the "data source" and click Next. Now I'm supposed to name/point to the mdf file, but how do I do that? The only thing that appears in the "Server name" text field is the computer's nameSQLEXPRESS, but the mdf file is of course residing in the web site's folder. Also, what should I choose in the "Destination" drop down menu: SQL Server Native Client 10, Micorsoft OLE DB Provider for SqlServer, or what? Regardless of what I choose, I don't find my mdf file in the "Database" drop down menu below . What am I doing wrong? I imagine it's really easy!

I can get all values to appear in each table but have been unsuccessful in getting all values from both tables.

DataSource Controls :: How To Create A Query With Values From Calendar Control

Jan 18, 2010

What I want to do is create a parameterized query in the code behind with the parameters being values from the calendar control

I'm trying to modify the select command already declared in the sqldatasource so I think it should be something like

SqlDataSource2.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM Activities WHERE StartDate>@StartDate AND StartDate<@StartDate2"

but the main problem I am having is how to declare the value of @StartDate, I thought it would be simply calendarID.selecteddate but this doesn't seem to be right, I've tried different variations I've found in similar threads but can't get it right

I'm not sure if grouping my results is complicating matters but when I hard code dates in it works Ok so I don't think so

the code I was trying to get working is

Dim theFilter as String = "WHERE StartDate>@StartDate and StartDate<@StartDate2"
SqlDataSource2.SelectCommand= "SELECT DATENAME(month, StartDate) AS Expr1, YEAR(StartDate) AS Expr2, SUM(CGUPreSchool) AS Expr3, SUM(CGUPrimary) AS Expr4, SUM(CGUSecondary) AS Expr5, SUM(CGUYouth) AS Expr6, SUM(CGUAdult) AS Expr7 FROM Activities WHERE " & theFilter &
" GROUP BY YEAR(StartDate), DATENAME(month, StartDate)"

I am trying to build the filter part dynamically you see but can't get this right

DataSource Controls :: Filtering Between 2 Values In A Query From Dropdownlist Select?

Feb 17, 2010

I have dropdownlist of dates and depending on the date that the user selects from list, I would like to filter records that fall between the startyear and finishyear columns in the datasource. (My the problem is that I do not know how to declare the Startyear and Endyear from the query in the code as they appear underlined - probably the BETWEEN syntax is wrong too).

yYear = DropDownList1.Text
Using connection As New SqlConnection("Data Source=CHRIS-PCSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TorGHL;Integrated Security=True")
Dim cmd As String
cmd = "SELECT BarDetails.*, MenuHeadingId AS Expr1 FROM BarDetails WHERE (MenuHeadingId = 2)" & "WHERE " & yYear & " BETWEEN " & "(" &
StartYear & ")" & " AND " & "(" & EndYear & ")"
connection.Open()
Dim dapubcb As New SqlDataAdapterDim sqlcomm
As
New SqlCommand(cmd, connection)
dapubcb.SelectCommand = sqlcomm
Dim dspubcb As New DataSet("BarDetails")
dapubcb.Fill(dspubcb, "BarDetails")

DataSource Controls :: Using Values Selected From A "check Box List' In A SQL Select Query?

Jul 5, 2010

I have a table called 'Customer' that contains customer information. One of the fields is named "CustomerType". Each record in the 'Customer' table will contain the value of either "C", "I", or "O".

I have a form that contains a "check box list" named "Type". There are 3 values in the "check box list". The values are "C", "I", and "O". The user can select one or more of these values. I have a button on the form named "btnRunQuery.

When the user clicks on the button "btnRunQuery" I want to exectute a query that selects the records contained in the "Customer" table where the value in the field "CustomerType" equal the values the user selected in the "check box list". Example: If the user selected "C" and "O", then I want the select query to select all records that contain either "C" or "O" in the field "CustomerType".

I assume that what I need to do is to capture the values that the user selected in the "check box list" and put them in a variable. Then I need to format the "Where" statement in the query and add a "Parameters.AddWithValue" command.

DataSource Controls :: SqlDataSource And Parameters Query / Trying To Accomplish Is Building Dynamic Query

Aug 22, 2010

1. I have a GridView on my page and it uses sqldatasource with parameterized query. What I want to do is, on page load (where nothing has been selected so no parameter supplied), I want it to query everything (something like SELECT * FROM [this_table]) but since my SelectCommand is something like

SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [this_column] = @someParameters AND [that_column] = @someParameters.

Can I play around with default value to achieve something like that but how ? Now, when the page loads, it doesn't show anything (No Gridview).

2. On my page, I made something like (username, gender, address, and more) and one single search button. That means, no single control enable auto postback. What I am trying to accomplish is building dynamic query

(if username specifed -> SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username).

If both username and gender are specified (SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username AND [gender] = @gender) and you know the rest. How can I do this using GridView and SqlDataSource ? To my knowledge, I can only specify one SELECT statement in a sqldatasource.

DataSource Controls :: Accessing FK From A Query Via Entity Query

Jan 21, 2010

I've got a query such as

Dim MediaQuery =
From m
In dB.DOWNLOADS _Where m.ID = id _Select

which returns a record from the database. One of the fields in the record is a FK to another table. I need to read this value to be able to set a dropdown based on the ID but I can't work out how to access it. For a standard record I can just do the following txtTitle.Text = MediaQuery.FirstOrDefault().TITLE

However with the foreign key it doesn't work like that. I've tried drpGroup.SelectedIndex = MediaQuery.FirstOrDefault().DOWNLOAD_GROUPS.ID where DOWNLOAD_GROUPS is the FK field but it returns Object reference not set to an instance of an object. If you're simply wanting to read some values from a single db record in the entitiy framework and one is a foreign key how should I go about getting the value?
