Configuration :: Prevent File Names From Appearing In The Url?
Nov 12, 2010
I've seen in some sites where the url displays without a file name and am curious how I go about doing that.
instead of http://mydomain/myapp/index.aspx i'd like to have http://mydomain/myapp
I'm also curious how to prevent a user from copying a link's shortcut, but not necessarily disable right click altogether. The idea is that I don't want users to get to pages in the site without first going to the home page.

Is it possible to hide the file names ex: default.aspx after my domain name and is it recommended?
I want users only to see www.domain.com whether they are on domain.com/about.aspx or any other pages, only domain.com should be visible in the url.

I have a development server, I make some changes to the .cs code behind file, and run it on my local server and it works fine.I now upload the changed files to the live server which is running an out of date file. The old .cs is overwritten with the new .cs file.The changes don't appear on the new site! SomeWhen I delete the codebehind file the page is still served on the live siteAny changes on the aspx file show on the live server, but not changes in the .cs fileI've tried restarting the server/IIS but it still serves the old fileIt's definatly in the right directory as I change the aspx file and changes appea

I am planning to create a web page with the name of the student, course,pic and the resume to be uploaded by the user for specified students...
If I upload the resumes of students with same name how to differentiate. Looking for creating a name of the file name randomly as next I'm planning to retrieve the resume via search function to download and view the resumes....
Saving the resumes with same name with differentiate or randomly to save the files with new file name....

How can I specify the DLL names in the bin directory when the application is deployed - even with "Use fixed naming and single page assemblies" option checked, it still appends "random" characters to the DLL name.

I am building a web application. Here's what I do.
Set the solution Configuration Manager to Release. Thus all projects are building the Release version. Then I clean the solution and build all. Then I "Build Deployment Package".
When running the installed code from the deployment package I notice when there is a bug in the compiled source the source file appears! How is this possible, I am building the Release configuration. The source code is definitely not in the release so it must be in the dlls.
Is there a way to stop this?

I have been looking for a pretty simple setup for listing files in a directory. I found one, pretty straight forward and works in listing the files. But now i need to modify the code a bit to accomplish 2 things..#1 i need to enable the file names to be links to the file. Currently i have it linked, but points to the server file structure and not the website structure, by this i mean that when you mouse over a file, the link looks like this (file:///c:/inetpub/wwwroot/images/icons/current.gif ) and i need it to look like this ( www.site.com/images/icons/current.gif )#2 Currently for my test page, i have the path setup like this: DirectoryInfo dirInfo = newDirectoryInfo(Server.MapPath(@"imagesicons"));Is there anyway to get the current path for that page, so i dont have to hard code the directory for each page i need this setup on? Also, how can i update the part for the file types to display, i need to display 3 different types, so notsure how to update that line either.Here is the ASPX and Code behind i have setup.

I have been working with this database for some time. Here is the situation...
I inherited a MS SQL database that has hundreds of tables with similar data. For instance:
FordTampa_customer is a table,
ChevyAtlanta_customer is a table, etc....
All of the columns are the same...just different tables with their own ID field. All I have done...Inside of another database id is created a table called 'Customer' and added an 'Dealer ID' column along with the rest of the other columns in the other tables...
So the combination of the 'Dealer ID' and the 'ID' field are unique.....I know...its not the best way to do things...but I cannot change the old data structure because I cannot have access to it. I am give back-ups on a weekly basis, so this is all I have to work with.
All right, on to the real point of my post...
Currently, I have an application that I use to select all of the data from the 'Ford_customers','Chevy_customers',etc... and inserts them into my new main 'Customer' table. I do this by selecting the table names, bind it to an arraylist, loop through the list and execute an insert statement.
I do this in VB.NET, but I would prefer to do it in a Stored procedure of some kind....I just am not sure how to accomplish it. I use this syntax to get my list of tables:
[Code]....
I am not sure how to take those names from the table and do another select based on that list of names.

I've got a script below that uploads multiple files and works fine. I am trying to rename them as I upload them and I'm having some trouble figuring it out.
[Code]....
From this line
Path.GetFileName(hpf.FileName + "-" + recordID + "-" + i));
I am trying to rename the file with the record ID (from a querystring) and also the upload number of the file that is being uploaded (2 of 3 etc).
how can i achieve this?

I am using visual studio 2005 (and team explorer 2005) with tfs 2008. I have installed both Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and VS80sp1-KB932544-X86-ENU.exe.
I perform the following steps:
Select Project->ASP.NET Configuration within Visual Studio 2005. Within Visual Studio 2005, attempt to perform either a check-in or a checkout.
The following happens:
The local server started by Visual Studio starts closing itself. I suspect it is crashing; the systray icons are not properly disposed of. It then reopens itself. It does this over and over again, maybe once every second or two. The TFS progress meter doesn't even budge, it just sits there. Canceling out of the checkout does not work; it says it is cancelling and does nothing.

I have a site that allow the user to request a secret report in a pdf format. My idea is to put the generated pdf files in a public folder with disabled directory browsing. Each file name consists of 128 characters that are uniquely and cryptographically generated. The legitimate user will be given the link of his/her own report.

I am developing an application that manages a photo contest. In that application, I use an AsyncFileUpload control for the user selected photo. The server-side UploadedComplete does basic validation, and scales/clip the image as necessary.
The problem is, when i click on the submit button on the page, the content of the AsyncFileUpload gets sent with the other user-submitted data, so the user gets to wait twice as long to get a response from the server (I'm expecting photos that are between 3 and 7 Mb big, which takes a minute or two to upload).
My form looks like that:
<%-- ... snip - all other fields ... -->
<div style="margin-top: 20px; margin-bottom: 5px;">
<span class="texteB"><b>Upload a photo</b></span><br />
Browse your computer to find a photo.</div>
<div>

Is there something I missed out in the documentation? I've been working on this all day without much success.
