Configuration :: Trying To Config Application To Use Out-of-process SessionState?

Oct 18, 2010

I am trying to config my application to use out-of-process sessionState.

<sessionstate mode="stateserver" cookieless="false" timeout="20" sqlconnectionstring="data source=127.0.0.1;user id=<user id>;password=<password>" server="127.0.0.1" port="42424" />In my web.config I get errors for the server and port attributes, telling me that server attribute is not allowed and port attribute is not allowed.

Architecture :: Access SessionState - Via App1 To SessionState From App2?

Aug 21, 2010

i'm interested to do the following - i geuss, i have no option to do that:

we have our "mainapplication" on a DB; we are tracking user-login status by switching a bit in the DB in the users data row.

we hvae a second application, the backend, which is the administration tool.

(the applications are put in seperate diretories on HD)

sometimes, we need to block/ban users. in some cases the users are logged in, when we "see them in action".

i'd like to build a button in the backend-application, which logss-out the user from the mainapplication.

for sure: i can access the same DB and switch the bit to "know" he's offline, but this will not kill the session on the mainapplication.

because: if a user is on/offline is also indicated by the session in the IIS. and as the IIS-session is active, the user may be already banned - but he will not be logged out automatically (and showing something like "you have been logged out because of a ban) one option would be to call the DB by each page-load to find out, if the user is logged on.

Configuration :: Process.start (System.Diagnostics.Process) - Execute A Batch File

Sep 7, 2010

I've written a aspx.net(C#) page that after the user has done what they do on the page they hit a Submit button. The Submit button

1) takes the work the users was producing on the page and writes it to a file.
2) attempts to execute a batch file.

The call to the batch file is executed via:

protected void Execute123EDI()
{
try
{
string File = @"c:80sAdminSendV80s.bat";
lblCancelled.Text = lblCancelled.Text + File;
Process proc = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
proc.StartInfo.LoadUserProfile = false;
proc.StartInfo.UserName = "administrator";
proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
System.Security.SecureString secPass = new System.Security.SecureString();
string paswd = "123abc";
for (int i = 0; i < paswd.Length; i++)
{
secPass.AppendChar(paswd[i]);
}
proc.StartInfo.Password = secPass;
proc.StartInfo.FileName = File;
proc.Start();
FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"c:80sAdminSendV80sOutput.log", FileMode.Append);
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(fs);
sw.Write(proc.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd());
proc.WaitForExit();
sw.Close();
proc.Close();
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
lblDebug.Text = lblDebug.Text + ex.Message + "<br/>";
}

If I watch the processes tab in Task Manager on the web server I see "cmd.exe" under the context of 'administrator' but it just hangs. For test purposes c:SendV80s.bat: copy c: oot.ini c:zzz.txt

If I logon onto the webserver's console and execute SendV80s.bat it works and exits without issue. But when I execute the same batch file via the Submit button it gets stuck executing in Task Manager/Process. I believe this has something to do with the fact that cmd is not running in a full environment/desktop context. I just noticed this on the actual console of the webserver (not in my RDP console but console 0 instead)

A pop-up box stating: CMD.exe Application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application. And when I click on the OK button my ASPX page's WaitForExit is satisfied and the continues processing normally.

Configuration :: Modify Application Url At Web.config Level?

Apr 11, 2010

My ISP recently has migrated my app to a new platform. The app has now to be parked in a root subfolder, say site1, rather than at the root.

The main page can still be accessed via [URL] is now located at /site1/default.aspx. Subfolder pages however cannot be accessed correctly anymore since the url includes now subfolder name "site1" ie

[URL]

instead of

[URL]

This of course breaks page referencing.

Despite multiple requests, I have not yet obtained an answer so far. Question: Is there a simple way to strip away string "site1" from the url, preferably at the web.config level? I know this can be done programmatically at the page level, to clean up page references (>30 pages). In addition, this could entail further compatibilty problems between the deployment version and the local development site.

C# - Tracking The Process Of A Singleton Process In A Web Application

Jan 26, 2010

When I hit the run button (in my Default.aspx), a process starts (this process contacts a webservice to get some files, etc). How do I: Ensure that only a single process is running at a time (i.e. if I refresh the browser, I don't want to start the process a second time)Track progress - there are 4 points of the process (at 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) that I want to track, and when each part completes, I want to update the progress bar. I have a status object for the running process, but the question is how to update the progress bar automatically? Do I need to use threads to achieve the above two?

Application - Configuration Implementation - Serialize Collections - Pick Up File Write Event To Reload New Instance Of Config Into Memory

Oct 11, 2010

I am working on a web app that will heavily rely on configuration. The configuration is also will be written by another process or human. I am looking to get response on best practices in .net 3.5 on how to implement this case. I had used the configuration section of an early version of the Enterprise Library Applications Block. I really liked working with it but from what I hear it is discontinued in current versions. Hence the question... Need to be able to serialize collections, pick up file write event to reload new instance of config into memory.

afeter the deploy, I have only the web.config and the connection string for the entity datamodel....itīs run ok, read/write the data on the DB.

The problem is with MyApp.....after the deploy it is a dll file and I donīt have the app.config and the entity inside it donīt run, not read/write nothing on the DB.

There arenīt error or messager but not read/write the data in the MyApp project.

now...the question is:

I lose the connection string (in app.config) after the deploy?

Can I put a entity in the MyWeb and read it in another project (myApp)?

C# - Why Does The System.configuration Differentiate Between Web.config And App.config

Jan 15, 2010

While using a third party dll I was getting the following exception - "exePath must be specified when not running inside a stand alone exe" with following trace

System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfigurationImpl(ConfigurationFileMap fileMap, Boolean isMachine, ConfigurationUserLevel userLevel, String exePath).

The reason I found was that it was looking for app.config and I had provided the details in web.config. My question is why does the system.configuration differentiate between web.config and app.config.

Configuration :: Start A Process From A 4 App With IIS 7.5?

Jun 18, 2010

I have a web app that needs to start an application. It works great when using the debug server from VS2010 but once I deploy the web app and use the local IIS 7.5 server the application process starts in the background (no UI just a process visible in the task manager). The process is owned by DefaultAppPool. I Added DefaultAppPool user & IIS_IUSRS group to the program folder permissions but still no luck.I've found this old link on this problem but the solution doesn't apply to IIS 7.5.
