Web Forms :: Web.config SessionState Other Than Off Ignores Roles In Web.sitemap

Feb 23, 2011

I changed my application to use "InProc" sessionState instead of "Off" because I need to preserve user selected language from page to page doing localization.n web.sitemap I have this line:

<siteMapNode url="Admin.aspx" title="Administrator" description="Site administration" roles="Administrator" />

which before I changed sessionState to "InProc" worked as supposed to: menu item "Administrator" appeared as a menu choice only when user had logged in with admin rights. Now this menu choice is present for every user.

Web Forms :: Sitemap Ignores RouteExistingFiles / Adds Forward Slash

Oct 13, 2010

i have an up & running site based on asp.net 4 routing everything works perfectly except for one page the dynamic route for this page is [URL] i also have a physical folder in the site named admin at first i was getting a iis error when i tired to access this page. then i discovered RouteExistingFiles=true so now the page shows up whats odd though that the sitempappath is empty as well as another sitemap-based treeview on the page so i checked the page's sitemap.currentnode , which is also empty. why? so more research showed that [URL] is always redirected to [URL] (realize the foward slash at end!)

if i search the sitemap like this SiteMap.Provider.FindSiteMapNode("~/Admin") then it returns the node . but like this SiteMap.Provider.FindSiteMapNode("~/Admin/") [-with fwd slash] it return nothing so the question is: why is "~/admin" always redirected to "~/admin/" and how do i either stop it or make the sitemap ignore final fwd slashes?

IIS Ignores Authorization In Web.config?

Sep 2, 2010

I have a problem using windows authentication and the authorization-tag in web.config for my asp.net application. When I host the application in IIS (both in IIS 6 and IIS 7) the authorization-tag is ignored. When I run the application in asp.net development server that comes with visual studio 2010, it works perfect.

Why will it not work in IIS? And how to solve it?

I ideally need to be able to add customHeaders through the IIS6 web.config (I however am assuming this won't work)

Web.sitemap - Roles Do Not Seem To Control Visibility?

Mar 22, 2010

I have a (simple) sitemap and am trying to figure out why a certain sub-menu is always visible.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0" >
<siteMapNode url="~/Login.aspx" title="Home" description="RivWorks" roles="*">

[code]...

I have a main menu option of "Dashboard". Under this menu item I have 2 options: 1) Campaign Manager & 2) Negotiation Manager. Now, what is interesting is when I am in either the campaigns role OR the auto-negotiation role I see the Dashboard and BOTH sub-menu items. This is not the behavior I expected. I expect to only see both sub-menus when I am in the campaigns role AND auto-negotiation role. The OR scenario should give me the Dashboard menu item and one OR the other sub-item...Am I doing something wrong here or thinking a wrong way?

SiteMap Based On User Roles Doesn't Works?

Sep 22, 2010

I have sitemap which looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0" >
<siteMapNode url="~/default.aspx" title="Prva stran" roles="*" description="Shema ISEF">
<siteMapNode roles="2" title="Analize" id="Analize" description="" >
<siteMapNode url="~/karneki1.aspx" title="Karneki1" description="" />
<siteMapNode url="~/karneki2.aspx" title="Karneki2" description="" />
</siteMapNode>
</siteMapNode>
</siteMap>

if I set roles in a siteMapNode with title "Analiza" it works fine, the link is not shown in the navigation... but if I set roles on any of "karneki" siteMapNode the links are still visible...

Is it even posible to restrict access to lower links based on user role?

Architecture :: Access SessionState - Via App1 To SessionState From App2?

Aug 21, 2010

i'm interested to do the following - i geuss, i have no option to do that:

we have our "mainapplication" on a DB; we are tracking user-login status by switching a bit in the DB in the users data row.

we hvae a second application, the backend, which is the administration tool.

(the applications are put in seperate diretories on HD)

sometimes, we need to block/ban users. in some cases the users are logged in, when we "see them in action".

i'd like to build a button in the backend-application, which logss-out the user from the mainapplication.

for sure: i can access the same DB and switch the bit to "know" he's offline, but this will not kill the session on the mainapplication.

because: if a user is on/offline is also indicated by the session in the IIS. and as the IIS-session is active, the user may be already banned - but he will not be logged out automatically (and showing something like "you have been logged out because of a ban) one option would be to call the DB by each page-load to find out, if the user is logged on.

Web Forms :: How To Edit 'siteMapFile' Attribute Of SiteMap Provider In Web.config Dynamically

Dec 13, 2010

I want to add/edit available siteMap providers in web.config file from code behind.

I am using the siteMap providers currently in the application web.config in a format given below:

<siteMap>
<providers>
<add siteMapFile="~/App_Themes/MyAppDefault/MySiteMap.sitemap"
name="MyAppDefault" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" />
</providers>
</siteMap>

This is allowing my application user to show up a different Site Map as and when the theme is changed.

But when I tried to do the same with the following code I faced with an issue.

configuration = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("~")
section = CType(configuration.GetSection("system.web/siteMap"), SiteMapSection)
Dim provider As New ProviderSettings()
If Not section Is Nothing Then
provider.Name = txtError.Text
provider.Type = "System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider"
section.Providers.Add(provider)
configuration.Save()
End If

This code is not allowing a provider.siteMapFile property (provideer is the ProviderSettings object).
As well the maximum possible way I can add a new SiteMap provider in web.config is as follows

<siteMap>
<providers>
<add name="MyAppCustom" type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" />
</providers>
</siteMap>

If anybody can suggest a way for me to add/edit the 'siteMapFile' attribute of the provider.

VS 2010 - Combining Web Config Role Authorization With Web Sitemap?

Jun 13, 2012

I have a sitemap defined in a web.sitemap file and I'm also doing role-based authorization for locations using web.config. I'm using the web.sitemap to generate a menu structure on a Master page, and I wanted to somehow hook the role-based auth from web.config into my menu to hide links to pages that would be denied access from the roles auth.

Is it possible to read the list of <location path=""> and associated role authorizations (allow or deny) from web.config so I can check that against the web.sitemap when generating the menu structure?

Membership Roles Web.config Settings

Nov 25, 2010

I can't seem to find this answer anywhere on google or stackoverflow, even though I'd thought it would've been an easy thing to do.

I want to understand how the system.web authorization tag on the web.config works, and what exactly each attribute and property does.

For instance, what does

<system.web>
<authorization>
<deny users="?"/>
<allow users="*"/>
</authorization>
</system.web>

Specifically what I want to do is to disallow access to most of the site for unauthenticated users, allow access to some of the site for authenticated users who belong to a certain role, and allow full access to users from a second role.

Requiring Multiple Roles In Web.config Authorization?

Apr 29, 2010

Is it possible to specify that multiple roles are required inside the authorization element of the web.config file? I currently have this block in one web.config of my site for a specific directory:

<authorization>
<allow roles="Global, Region" />
<deny users="*" />
</authorization>

I've just identified a special case where a person with two lower-level permissions than Global and Region should also have access to this directory. Roughly, I want something like this:

<authorization>
<allow roles="GlobalManager, RegionManager, SiteManager && FooSite" />
<deny users="*" />
</authorization>

I realize I probably should have a new role for this scenario, but I'd like to avoid that.

Security :: Set Up Some Roles In Configuration Nothing Added To Web.config?

Feb 17, 2010

I quickly setup Roles to get my site up, but now I am going back and tightening them up. I have a custom SQL Server database Provider to hold users.I want 3 Roles, Admins, Progress and then a standard User.I have all the files only Admins to use are in a folder SecureAdminI have all the files only Progress to use are in a folder SecureProgress And all the files that everybody has access to are in the Secure Folder.As soon as I added the Custom XML Site provider, my Tree View disppeared. I would assume it's because my roles are not configured correct. I can use the ASP.NET configuration tool to see my roles and users, but any combination I try in there doesn't seemto do anything. I see most examples have some code like below.

[code]...

But even when I set up some roles in the ASP.Net configuration, I never see anything like that added to my web.config? Is this because it is stored in the database? If not, what what I add to my web.config to make this work?

Sitemap Randomly Breaks Over Time / Could Not Find The Sitemap Node With URL '~/Default.aspx'

Aug 2, 2010

I've been having some production runtime errors that I don't fully understand. This has happened to us on a couple different ASP.NET 4.0 Web Sites (shudders - yes, I know - we're porting it to MVC but that's taking some time).

First of all, we have never been able to reproduce this issue in development/QA environments. Secondly, upon deployment, the issue seems to be non-existent. Sometimes the issue manifests within a day or two of deployment and other times the deployment will be live for a month without it manifesting at all. However, once it manifests, then ANY page viewed under the web site causes the error. Lastly, this problem seemed to only come up once we migrated to .NET 4.0. We started at 2.0, a year ago upped to 3.5, and recently upped to 4.0 with this solution and most child projects.

The error:

Could not find the sitemap node with URL '~/Default.aspx'.

A simplified version of our sitemap (with some names changed and uninteresting nodes removed) is as follows:

<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0">
<siteMapNode roles="*" title="EG">
<siteMapNode url="~/../SM/Default.aspx" title="Welcome" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SD/Default.aspx" title="SD" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SMD/Default.aspx" title="SMD" description="" roles="*" />

[code]...

I have confirmed in all of the SiteMaps that there is a node with url="~/Default.aspx" with roles="*" (which includes public/anonymous access), so I am very confused as to why this problem occurs.

SiteMap does not have a node for Default.aspx. All of them do. SiteMap's Default.aspx node is not accessible for security reasons to the current user/role. They're all accessible to anonymous users and this problem even exists for super admin users. Passed-in URL contains querystrings (Default.aspx?abcd). I don't know if this is a problem (I sure would hope not) but once the problem manifests itself, I can handwrite the URL with no querystrings and the problem still exists.

SiteMap changes. It doesn't Service's permissions to the sitemap file. The sitemap works perfectly fine after a deployment, so unless permissions are changed in a way that IISRESET fixes, then this is not an issue. The worker process becomes globally corrupt. I don't think so. We have ~12 web sites all in the same app pool and the problem always stays confined within a single web site. Also, we have yet to have this happen to more than a single web site at a time although it has manifested itself in 4 different ones so far.
