I encrypted my web.config file and I copied this file to the production server. But I get an error. But without encrypting - it's ok. I used:
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v4.0.30319aspnet_regiis -pef "appSettings" "C:inetpubwwwrootSite1" -prov RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider
I don't have access to IIS. Is it possible to encrypt config file and everything works?
When I run my application I got this error
Server Error in '/POD/POMLNT' Application.
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>

What is it means , and how can i fix it ?
After publishing the web application on the web host there si following error.It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.
View 1 Repliesi've tried searching the net for this but really can't find much at all. i have created a website in visual web 2005 with sql express 2005. i have uploaded the website and altered the connection string and can connect to the database on the server, but now users can't log in The login control tells me when I've entered the wrong details, so it's doing something right, but if I enter the right credentials it eventually just throws back an error (Server Error in '/' Application.). I'm guessing it's something to do with the membership section in the web.config but can't quite work out where. I've altered the connectionstringname to the one that points to the database on the server and the application name in the table on the db is "/" so now I'm at a loss.
View 14 RepliesI built my ASP.NET website using vs2008 professional.
Now I have purchased vs2010 professional edition.
I do format my computer and then installed vs2010.
Now I want to deploy my website in vs2010, but it is giving configuration error in <add assemblies...

If I create a custom error page in my web.config file, how do I retrieve error details in the error page?
So with ...
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="/error/error.aspx">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="/error/404.aspx" />
</customErrors>
I am referring to errors generated by my asp.net. For example I created a sample page and wrote 'throw new Exception("some error")' as a test. How can I retrieve an instance of the exception or exception details in my "/error/error.aspx" page? Currently in my error page if I query Server.GetLastError() the return value is null.
I have a website which works perfectly fine with IIS6 on a remote server. I switched hosting to an IIS7 server and now I get the following error:

I want to encrypt web.config connection string. But Getting Error

why is this happening. How to tackle with this problem.
I just uploaded all my aspx files including web config file to the server. I received a notice saying the web.config file has been removed from the server due to its conflict with their server. The aspx files are working fine without the web config file. But the email form from my site is not working. I have a few questions regarding this.
1. Is web.config necessary to run aspx pages?
2. What are the possible reason web.config files is conflicting with the server?
3. As mentioned, the email form is not working. I am predicting the reason is it is unable to access the mail setting in web.config file.
I've ran into a weird issue when ever I deploy to my winhost account and try to login using membership provider it works fine locally but once it's on the intarnets it breaks. I am using a project that rewrites URL. I am not familiar with this code, but it works fine on IIS 6 and with VS2010. Problem begins when I need to deploy into IIS7.5 server. Seems like the rewrite doesn't work and the page doesn't fount after rewriting page.

I am trying to use this web.config code, but then I could see this:

, I've researched this quite a bit and I'm just not seeing the problem. The app runs beautifully when living on my pc - the app on my pc connects successfully to the SQL Server 2008 Express Database (which sits on a server - not my pc). However, as soon as I publish this application to the server that the SQL Server 2008 Express Database sits on, I get this error when I try to run the application:
ERROR [42S02][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'user'
It's behaving as if it either doesn't know where the table is when the app tries to run on the same server as the database or maybe the app doesn't have permission to hit the database once the app is on the same server as the database. I have connections on my pc and the server defined for this database, I verified that I set up each connection the same. I've also tried connecting using [dbo].[user] and this doesn't remedy the situation either. my connection string is in my web.config and it looks like this:
<add name="directoryConnectionString" connectionString="DSN=directoryProd" providerName="System.Data.Odbc" />
my sql looks like this:
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:directoryConnectionString%>"
ProviderName="System.Data.Odbc"
SelectCommand="SELECT fName FROM [user]"></asp:SqlDataSource>
I created my application using asp.net binded to MySQL database and every thing is working fine.
I used connection strings and normal connections defined in the code as mysqlconnection.
I uploaded all pages and database to the webserver, but the data is not accessed.
I have to modify the web.config file but what changes I have to make?
i am working on an application ,i have hosted on server. everything going fine . i have added a code to set session timeout in webconfig . but its expire default time .
<sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="524601"/>
When I try to encrypt the "connectionStrings" section in the web.config file of my asp.net web application on Windows Server 2008, I'm getting the following error:
Administration utility (2.0.50727) to install and uninstall ASP.NET on the local machine. Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Note: This utility has limited capabilities on the Windows Vista operating system. It is recommended that you use the "Turn on or off Windows features" option of the "Programs" component of Control Panel to install or remove ASP.NET. It is also recommended that you use the IIS Manager component or the Appcmd.exe tool to configure ASP.NET applications.
The above information is followed by the list of valid options to aspnet_regiis.exe.
The command that I've used is:
aspnet_regiis.exe -pef "connectionStrings" "C:Usersuser1DocumentsMywebsite" -prov "DataProtectionConfigurationProvider"
But, the same command is working fine when used on a Windows Server 2003 machine. The problem is occurring only on Windows Server 2008 with IIS7.
When a server error occurs for whatever reasons (YSOD), the server will send a message via SMTP class. In my case, my company employs microsoft exchange and uses NTLM authentication for all domain users. I am authenticating users via NTLA windows integrated authentication. My question is, is it possible to utilize this authentication data, and pass it to the system.web SMTP username/password authentication scheme to send an email to me (the web developer) when the error occurs? I am pretty sure my company requires a username/pwd to send emails via SMPT on the ms exchange server.
View 1 RepliesI am REALLY stuck with this and need a solution in the next 24 hours .i I have uploaded my asp.net web application to the web and have the database and connection strings functioning and reading the data from the database. But when I try to write to the DB
I get the following error :

The wierd thing about this is the connection strings work from the local machine when I run from Visual Studio and I can write to the DB there, I just cannot write to the DB from the URL.
I am pretty new to asp.net but I am sure it has to be something to do with the web.config.
I got this error

I just got a new computer with Windows 7 and installed IIS, including support for ASP. I am running everything locally on my computer. A simple statement like <% response.write time() %> works fine, so ASP is working, However, when I try to run a page that accesses a database (at least, I am assuming that that is the root of the problem) then I get the unhelpful error message:An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator.If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error. I have no idea where to begin. the database is in the same location as it was on with my old computer, and I have adjusted permissions to the database so that everyone except Creator Owner has full permissions - for whatever reason I am not able to change Creator Owner permissions.
