Connecting To Access 2007 Database Linked To SQL Server And Pulling Records?

Jun 10, 2010

I have a issue where I am trying to pull some records from an Access 2007 DB that has linked tables from a SQL 2005 Server. When I go to do this the browser IE8 just sits there and does nothing. THe little progress bar at the bottom moves about half way then that is it. It will sit there and show no errors or do anything. I have experience with connecting and manipulating Access and SQL server DB's but not through Access with linked tables from SQL Server. Here is test code below:

[Code]....

This does not produce an error or anything. The browser just sits there and sits there. Is there something I am missing?

Slow Query When Connecting To Linked Server?

Nov 18, 2010

I've got this query UPDATE linkeddb...table SET field1 = 'Y' WHERE column1 = '1234' This takes 23 seconds to select and update one row But if I use openquery (which I don't want to) then it only takes half a second.

The reason I don't want to use openquery is so I can add parameters to my query securely and be safe from SQL injections. Does anyone know of any reason for it to be running so slowly?

I recently designed a website for a school, I have their result in my database, I am using Northwind. What I want to do is, since all the result are in the data, I want to input a students name, exam number and some numbers in a card(exam scratch card, which they will purchase) they will purchase. When they input these details, the students results will be pulled out from the database.

Just like exam result portal, where you will look up your result with, your name, school number and numbers from the scratch card.

Mar 1, 2010

In school we have been making a website where we need to use .adp vbscript pages. But also Microsoft Access databases.

We've added the connection string etc and bindings - all that works fine but when we go to open the page we get page cannot be found. It loads sometimes but most of the time we get that page not found screen.

We are using IIS.

The teachers and another students one works fine, We have done exactly what they have but we get no luck with bringing up the pages.

We get error 500.100 and Error line 8.

Access :: Keyword Not Supported: 'provider'. Error When Connecting To Database?

Apr 4, 2010

I wish to connect to an access database within visual web developer. I created the connection string:

<connectionStrings>
<add
name="ConnectString"
connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data
Source=C:foldersfilename.mdb"
providerName="System.Data.OleDb"/>
</connectionStrings>

And I refer to the connection like so:

<asp:sqlDataSource
ID="SqlDataSource3"
runat="server"
ConnectionString=
"<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectString %>"
ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectString.ProviderName %>"
SelectCommand="

but I recieve the error

Keyword not supported: 'provider'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Keyword not supported: 'provider'

what am I supposed to do to make this connection work! I have always done it in dreamweaver with no problems, but I have to use Visual Web Developer for this project.

DataSource Controls :: Appending Data To An SQL Server Database After Pulling From An ODBC?

Jul 15, 2010

I am working on an asp webform that pulls from an ODBC datasource then puts the data in an sql server. Once the data is in the sql server several queries pull data from it to provide information for a report.

This is an example of what I am talking about

private
void ODBCpdEmployeeAb()
{
DataTable dt =
new
DataTable();

[Code]....

The first part gets the data from the ODBC connection and the next part stores it in an sql server table. The problem is I have these methods in the page load event of the webform so everytime it loads it just puts the exact same data in the sql server table which would then provide incorrect information on the report.

Is there a way to append the most recent data from the ODBC table to the sql server ?

Merge The Records From The Database On The Local Machine With The Records On The Remote Server?

Mar 31, 2010

The website is over half way done and the functionality for the blog is (except for adding posts) is already implemented and working correctlyI have a SQLExpress 2008 backendBlog posts are rendered on the page with full HTML markup within a label control.

All of the above is done and working. Though I am essentially new to creating websites with ASP.NET, CSS and SQL, I am sure that I could simply carry on and make a login page with some controls that would allow me to add records (blog posts) directly to the database on the host server. However, I am fearful of doing this because I know that malicious code can be passed in this way. Also, because of my lack of knowledge, the only way that I know of to pass the code from a control to the database is to disable validation for the page the control is on. Without a doubt I do not want to do that.

So what are my options for getting blog posts into the database? Is it safest for me to fully create the post in html and update a copy of the database that resides on my local machine? If I do it this way, how can I merge the records from the database on the local machine with the records on the remote server?

Entity Framework - Connecting To Database In Server Control?

Aug 3, 2010

As a follow on from this question I'm building a custom server control to be placed on a Sharepoint 2010 master page. The idea behind this is that it will display a menu that is dynamically populated from the database. As this is a server control, I'm building it in a dll but I've run into a small snag. As it has to connect to the database, I need to store the connection string somewhere (and have it able to be configured based on target configuration (dev/test/prod). I was intending to the user the Entity Framework as my ORM but i'm confused as to where the connection string is to be stored. In a normal ASP.NET web app it goes in the web.config, but this is a server control in a external DLL.

Where do I store the connection string so that I can just build and deploy the assembly containing the server control.

EDIT:

Before I post a bounty, I have tried using an embedded resource XML file to hold the connection string and while this works, I'm curious as to if this is best practice/a better way?

Access :: Reading Data From Access With A Linked Table (pointing To A Access Table On Another Location?

Sep 7, 2010

Here's a short explanation of my asp.net project.

1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.

In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:

"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".

Some extra info:

- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone

- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)

- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)

- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)

- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />

Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)

Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:

- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)

- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.

I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.
