MVC :: Connecting To MS Access Database And Generate A LINQ To SQL Class For A Table?
Mar 31, 2010
I am creating a ASP.Net application in MVC architecture. I have to connect to a database on MS Access and be able to enter data into it. All examples I see use SQL Server. When I try from prject explorer Add New Item -> Data -> I am unable to find Drivers for Access Database.
From the Data Connections in Server Explrere window I was able to make a successful connection to the database.
I have a window form app with reports that connects to an Access Database i had already build the project and every single report works fine without any problem, Here is what's stange, when i try to add a new report to the project and try to connect to the database i am getting 'Visual studio has a problem and need to close' i don't know what is the problem, i can open the database and run queries without any problem but whenever i want to connect my newly created report to the database it just failed. It does not give me a detail error so i can fix it.
While working with LINQ to ENTITIES I see that there is only a way to use stored procedure that is returning one entity only, or a view that is a join of two entities.
But what if I need in ASPX page to get two tables that there is NO connection between them, no join can be done between them at all.
I have one Stored Procedure that return the two tables, but entities don't support this right now.
I can split them to two Stored Procedure and call each of them separately.
I have no trouble connecting to a SQL server with code in my web config file for user registeration. But I am having trouble telling it to go to a particular table.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Keyword not supported: 'provider'
what am I supposed to do to make this connection work! I have always done it in dreamweaver with no problems, but I have to use Visual Web Developer for this project.
I have a issue where I am trying to pull some records from an Access 2007 DB that has linked tables from a SQL 2005 Server. When I go to do this the browser IE8 just sits there and does nothing. THe little progress bar at the bottom moves about half way then that is it. It will sit there and show no errors or do anything. I have experience with connecting and manipulating Access and SQL server DB's but not through Access with linked tables from SQL Server. Here is test code below:
[Code]....
This does not produce an error or anything. The browser just sits there and sits there. Is there something I am missing?
I am a beginner in ASP.NET using VB Code. I want to generate a Unique reference no by concortinating three column fields.Example:
Column unique reference no (System Generated) - 10 Column with Product Code (User Entry) - APPLE Column with Product Title (User Entry) - FRUITS Unique ref No = FRUITS/APPLE/10
I want to concatenate this three fields to the column Unique Ref No.
Well it's finally time to stop ignoring my unit's need for reports. I keep coming to dead ends. I gave up the crystal reports idea, and ssrs seems a little easier. Now the problem is that I'm creating a report locally on my laptop, then will change the connection string, upload it to my server and have it run against an identical database on the server.
I'm using SQL Server Express locally, and when I try to create a dataset (using the wizard), I can see the tables, but when I try to add one, I get an error message "Could not retrieve schema information for table or view". I looked up this error and there isn't much useful info on it. I guess it some bug when trying to use SS Express? Is there a work around for this? Can I create the report programmatically? Should I use a different kind of reporting service?
I had made a table to fill the unordered list but how to fetch that data into li and ul the table consists of home, organisation (with children as policy, employeesdetails), and so on.. How do i fill these ul and li's and children of li's with data from sqlserver2005 table?
I'm not supposed to use any asp.net built in controls like asp.net menu
I am creating a attendance database table in sql server2005.. i just want to generate the gridview as follows in form.aspx.. i am using vb.net generate the report in gridview..
Attendance table employee name(varchar)- Its contain all the employees name date(datetime)-Its contain dates status(varchar)-Its contain the status of employee whether they are Present or Absent
I just need all the employee name (data) in one rows and dates in columns.. also i need the status of the employees inside this.. whether they are absent or present.
Could anyone provide me more info regarding this subject because I'm clueless. Any link, tutorial or anything else would be appreciated. The problem is I don't know where to start, but what I have to do is to import data from Access database to very similar SQL database.
During an adaption of a book based example application, to use an access database instead of sql server - I have come up with the final issue: It will not insert into the database! I suspect it might be to do with the OrderID, I do have it set to autonumber, but I am not too sure. This is the class that does the inserts, by adding customer information to customer table, order information to order table and ordeitems information to the orderitems table. When submitting this information on the webpage, there is the custom error that an error has occurred in your order due to this code page code behind
Coming from PHP it's common to have a simple class that makes talking to a database very easy. Do people use the same approach in .net, or do you have a class for say products, which handles all database communications for the products table?
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page. 2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.
I created a Class library for WCS service (MyWCFServiceLibrary) to access data form my database. The database connection strings have been defined in Properties->Settings.settings. The endpoints are defined in the app.config. Tracing and logging is set to write to files on local server. This service is hosted by a .net web service. This webservice refrences the WCF service using MyWCFServiceLibrary.dll and MyWCFServiceLibrary.pdb. The web service is hosted in IIS. All this setup is working fine on the development environment. Now I want to deploy this in the QA environment. Since I am a newbie with WCF, I would appreciate some help on what needs to be done for deploying this on the QA server.1. Do I need to recompile the MyWCFServiceLibrary.dll after changing the connectionstring to point to QA database and tracing and loggint paths to the new server?2. Is there anything that needs to be done with end points or anything else?
or one of my project, I use Access 2007.I have application written by Access, that use database : Sql-Server 2007.I am using XP for the any company computer. The dsn file is on network, and include connectionString with username + password,ut I want to access the database from any user with automatic authentication (no need for user and password).
I've a problem with my web application. I hosted a web site in IIS and initially its working good. After sometime ( i dont know the time diff exactly ), if i try to access my page its not working and after re-starting my application only its working. Let me explain about my project.
I've only 4 pages ( ex: main, a1,b1,c1 ) in my site. In main page i used IFrame to show other 3 pages by clicking the appropriate tab. Before this main page load, i'm connecting to DB (Oracle 10g) and i used "System.Data.OracleClient" class to communicate with oracle. Every time after retrieved data from DB i'll close the connection. Then i'll display the main page and assign other page url's to the tab.
Now the problem is after sometime if i access the main page, its not connecting to DB at all then i'll show some static message like "site is unavailable at this time". And i'm not using connection pooling concept. And also this problem is not occurring all time.
A class in my ASP.NET website needs to access a database table multiple times for every request. The database table should rarely change, if ever. Maybe a couple times a month.
In the static constructor of the class, the table is fetched from the DB and cached in a static local variable. Whenever the class needs to access the table, then, it just uses the cached, static version.
My question concerns the lifespan of this cached, static version of the table.
I understand that it's fetched the first time the class is instantiated or a static method in the class is used. But how often does this occur on the web server? What if the table changes and we want to reset this static version of the table?
Basically, I'm wondering, is this table fetched once and then only refetched each time I restart IIS? What, with regard to the site and IIS, will trigger this static class to reset, causing the static table to be refetched?
Im using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and have put together a custom form using ASP controls and labels.
I now need to update an access database with the data that is captured on the form. I have added an AccessDataSource but do not know how to link the fileds to the fileds within the database so that when I click submit it updates the table.
