Convert 2005 RDLC To 2008 Using VS2010?

Aug 24, 2010

I'm getting an error on serveral reports that I built in VWD2005 (express) using the reportviewer control. Trying to edit the rdlc file in VS2010, VS2010 asks if i want to convert the file to RDLC 2008 format and I click ok. When I build the site, I getthis error (and of course also when the report is ran)Error 1 The report definition is not valid. Details: The report definition has an invalid target namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2008/01/reportdefinition' which cannot be

upgraded. C:inetpubwwwrootmastercardlcmReportsWorkListsOpenSRStatus.rdlc 1

VS 2008 Convert 2005 Project To 2008?

Apr 27, 2010

I have a project that I developed in VS2005 and that has been put into VSS. I am trying to "get" it on a new machine and convert it to VS2008 because that is what is installed on the new machine. I am having problems with it that I think originate in its working folder. So my basic question is, when you try to work with a solution that's in VSS should you maintain the same folder structure that it had when it was originally checked in? I'm not particularly happy with its original structure because it goes on and on seven levels deep, and I wanted to just cut it down to C:ProjectsResNew, but if that's what it takes to get it to work, I'll do it.

Configuration :: How To Convert Websites Created In VS 2005 & 2008 To VS 2010 Sites

Sep 2, 2010

I have numerous web sites created over the years. Some were created using FrontPage with aspx pages added that were created in VS 2003 or VS 2005. Others were web sites that were actually created with VS 2005 or 2008. All these older sites reside in the C:Inetpubwwwroot folder of my present development computer, with only the .sln and the .suo files residing in the project folder. All of the sites have counterparts on the Internet.I am about to build a new computer and would prefer to only install VS 2010 on it. When Previously building new computers, I installed VS 2005 and VS 2008 so that I could administer

AJAX :: Installed VS2010 And Proceded To Convert Projects?

Nov 22, 2010

I installed VS2010 and proceded to convert my projects but the wizard failed. Insted I decided to recreate the whole solution with 5 projects from scratch, except that my Ajax 4.0 controls do not work. The projects are "Class" type and the final product is complied DLL that I'll be using some place else.

I am referencing the latest AjaxControlToolKit and in one of my projects where I'm building tab panel controls on the fly, where I'm adding "Controls" to the TP such as tpOverdue.Controls.Add(linkButton), the "Controls" throws an error:

'AjaxControlToolkit.TabPanel' does not contain a definition for 'Controls' and no extension method 'Controls' accepting a first argument of type 'AjaxControlToolkit.TabPanel' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

Another error I get in a separate project (same solution) where I build the scriptmanager on the fly like this: ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, typeof(PeopleSearch), "UpdatePanelFixup", "_spOriginalFormAction = document.forms[0].action; _spSuppressFormOnSubmitWrapper=true;", true); - The error is: "The name 'ScriptManager' does not exist in the current context".

Interestingly, this solutiom resides on a 2003 server (developping on test server). I have similar solution on Vista using VS2010 where the difference is that instead of using class projects in my solution I use Web User Controls in my web solution and all works like a charm. I don't know if this is enough info for you guys to offer feedback, so if neccessary, I can post some code. Just let me know.

On my development box I have VS 2010 Ultimate (64bit), SQL 2008 Express, and SQL 2008 DEV R2 all installed on the same machine. I can access either SQL with Management Studio R2 but I am having problems getting VS to open MDF files in the App_Data folder. It is trying to open them with SQL Express rather than the full version of SQL.I get an error about verion 661 is incompatable with the version installed which is 655.So what I need help with is, I guess, How do I add a program in VS for "open with" to use SQL 2008 R2? The present default for MDF files is "SqlExpress File Bootstrapper (Default)".I can't figure out where to point for it to open.I have considered uninstalling or upgrading the Express edition.

Visual Studio :: To Submit Bug Reports On BIDS 2008 R2 As VS2010 Bugs?

Jun 14, 2010

I installed VS2010.Since I needed SSAS, SSRS, SSIS proj and I could not tind them fast I installed VSTS2008SP1 and MS SQL Server 2008 R2 (+client tools). How do I create BI projs in VS2010?

MS SQL Server 2008 R2 setup installed BIDS but this link opens VSTS2008SP1.I'd like to submit bug reports on BI proj, they are mostly on GUI, i.e. BIDS2008R2, is it or VSTS2008SP1 in my case? Now, https://connect.microsoft.com/directory/
permits bugs on VS only of version 2010 and .NET 4.0.

But the most recent MSSQLServer2008R2 settup installs BIDS, akaVS2008.Does it install .NET 4.0 (seems like no), or VS2010 as BIDS (seems like no)?Where to report bugs on GUI used for BI (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS) projs, i.e. on BIDS2008R2, i.e. VSTS2008SP1 in my case?

Once more:the most recent MSSQLServer setup installs VS2008 but the bugs are not accepted on it.Also feedback on MSSQLServer2008 does not have category BIDS or VS. Or BIDS/VS is under "Tools(SSMS, Agent, Profiler, Migration, etc.)" there?

Roleprovider - .NET User/Role Management In VS2010 - Skipping Over The SQL Express Version And Going Straight To SQL Server 2008 R2

Jan 28, 2011

As I'm learning the ins and outs of ASP.NET user management, I've learned that the default in VS is for it to use a SQL Server Express .mdf file for the data it needs to save. This won't help me for when I deploy my site, as I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2 on my IIS 7.5 server. I know that I can run a command line tool to automatically create the db tables necessary for user management, and will do that on my development machine, but how do I tell my existing, in development code in VS to ignore the existing Express .mdf file and look at the newly created db tables?

SQL Reporting :: How To Convert A Report In Rdl Format To Rdlc Format

Jan 6, 2011

I am trying to create reports in my asp.net application. I using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I am trying to display the reports using the Report Viewer (local mode - no report server).

I originally created a lot of reports using Report Builder 2 with the intent of using Report Viewer (remote mode - with a report server). The reports that I created are in rdl format and in order to display the reports using the Report Viewer in local mode, the reports need to be in rdlc mode - (the C stands for client processing).

What is the easiest way to convert these files?

DataSource Controls :: Convert SQL Server 2005 Db To Access?

I am now using a asp.net shopping cart application by the same company

However this program only supports MS SQL Server and not Access.

Would it be possible to export the SQL Server as an Access database (I've moved Access databases to MS SQL, so why not the other way)? Is there a way to support stored procedures in Access, and if not, any workarounds in ASP.net?

VS 2008 Conversion From 2005 Project

Apr 16, 2010

I have a Visual Studio solution created in 2005 and I want to start working with it in 2008. I opened it and it was run through the wizard. My first error is a message that says: The Web Applicatin Project is configured to use IIS. You must install the following IIS components: IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility. So, I googled that and found this:IIS 7.0 is included with Windows Vista. However, when you first install Windows Vista, by default IIS 7.0 is not enabled. This topic describes how to enable IIS and configure it so that in Visual Studio you can create local IIS ASP.NET Web sites. This enables you to use a local copy of IIS to run and debug the Web site instead of using the ASP.NET Development Server. The bold is mine, because I want to know why I can't just use the ASP.NET Development Server? I always have in the past. Oh, and I'm not running Vista, I'm running Windows 7, but I don't think that matters.

Debug Web Service 2008 From 2005?

Sep 1, 2010

I have two applicaitons. One is web service written in VS2008 and the other one is Windows CE 5.0 application written in VS2005.

This CE application will use web service to talk to the database. After I build and compile the web service successfully, I publish one copy to my localhost and this CE application point to my localhost and consume the web service.

I'm finding a way to debug the web service. I want to step into web service every time CE application make a connection with web service (like we put a breakpoint in windows application go step by step)

However, When I run the web service, it starts with some virtual port. And so my Ce application call didn't come to this running Web service (run by VS2008).

Reporting Services 2005 And VS 2008

Mar 22, 2011

SQL server 2005

I have created a reports project through SQL Business intelligence studio, There is shared data source in it. The name of the sharedata source is MyReport.rds.I have added two new items to the project (reports folder) with names Survey.rdl and myProjectReport.rdl.

Before deploying it, I have specified three properties ( Throgh the project properties)

1) TargetDataSourceFolder=DataSources

2)TargetReportFolder= reports

3)TargetServerURL=http://localhost/reportserver and deployed it.

When I view it in the browser through

http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx

I get my folder called reports, and when I click on it I can see two reports, it works till this stage.

I want to use the same report in Visual studio 2008 so I have done the following in VS 2008

Visual Studio 2008

1) Added a page

2) Added Reportviewer Control to the page

3) Click Properties of Reportviewer and Choose <server Rreport>

4) Set Report Server URL: http://localhost/reportserver

5) set Report Path= /reports/

It comes up with the following error:

The path of the item '/reports/' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash. (rsInvalidItemPath)
