Debug Web Service 2008 From 2005?

Sep 1, 2010

I have two applicaitons. One is web service written in VS2008 and the other one is Windows CE 5.0 application written in VS2005.

This CE application will use web service to talk to the database. After I build and compile the web service successfully, I publish one copy to my localhost and this CE application point to my localhost and consume the web service.

I'm finding a way to debug the web service. I want to step into web service every time CE application make a connection with web service (like we put a breakpoint in windows application go step by step)

However, When I run the web service, it starts with some virtual port. And so my Ce application call didn't come to this running Web service (run by VS2008).

VS 2008 Convert 2005 Project To 2008?

Apr 27, 2010

I have a project that I developed in VS2005 and that has been put into VSS. I am trying to "get" it on a new machine and convert it to VS2008 because that is what is installed on the new machine. I am having problems with it that I think originate in its working folder. So my basic question is, when you try to work with a solution that's in VSS should you maintain the same folder structure that it had when it was originally checked in? I'm not particularly happy with its original structure because it goes on and on seven levels deep, and I wanted to just cut it down to C:ProjectsResNew, but if that's what it takes to get it to work, I'll do it.

VS 2008 Unable To Debug / Symbols Not Loaded?

Feb 25, 2011

I had an issue when I began working on my project, see this thread where I couldn't debug my DLL's. All I had to do to solve it, though it took me forevever to find this, was to hit F5. This doesn't make much sense since they are DLLs and I get a message that I can't run them directly, but whatever, it works. The output is generated as debuggable and I can copy it to my deployment directory and run and hit BPs (I attach to aspnet_wp).

My VS solution is four projects, all are DLLs, and one is called directly by my web application and it calls the others. There are two I am interested in debugging as I am enhancing them.

Maybe I jinxed myself, but I was actually musing recently that if I never figured out why I couldn't debug I'd never have progressed as much as I had in my task. Yesterday I backed up my project to a zip file - source and DLL's - because I was starting on a new piece. The only thing I did to the solution after that was move a module from App_LocalResources to App_Code, then I moved it back. And I added some code. When I tried to set BP's the next time I ran, I got "symbols not loaded". I haven't been able to debug since. I tried restoring the zip file since yesterday I could debug, but I didn't hit BPs there either. I will be researching this the rest of the day, I am sure, but I thought I would ask for specific since maybe I can tell you something that will you to know what I did wrong or you can throw out a question that will trigger to me what I am doing wrong. This is really not how I wanted to be spending a Friday.

VS 2005 - Sending A List To Web Service

Aug 30, 2012

I have an object that contains a list of Email addresses and EmailIDs.

Code:
public class DataObjects
{
public class UserEmails
{
private string _Email;
public string Email

[Code] ....

And I populate it like this:

Code:
protected void GetEmails()
{
DataAccess da = new DataAccess(); //this is a separate Data Access class with loads of methods to access the database
List<DataObjects.UserEmails> myUserEmailsList = new List<DataObjects.UserEmails>(); //create a list of UserEmails objects
myUserEmailsList = da.getUserEmails(1); //this passes in a UserID to the data access function that returns me a list of emails for this user
myPassedList(myUserEmailsList); //I pass the list to another function just to prove the data is there and can be retrieved.
}

The last line in GetEmails passes the list to myPassedList

Code:
protected void myPassedList(IList EmailsList)
{
foreach (DataObjects.UserEmails myUserEmails in EmailsList) //loop through the list to prove it is populated etc.
{
int EmailID = myUserEmails.EmailID;
string Email = myUserEmails.Email;
}
}

Everything above works fine. Here's the question. When I am at the point where I have populated the List of UserEmails - I need to pass it to a web service for someone else to access the data.

I pass my list to a function and I can loop through it by writing:

foreach (DataObjects.UserEmails myUserEmails in EmailsList)

which is fine, for me, because my application knows what DataObjects.UserEmails means ... the people receiving the list won't. They are just getting a list.

Can they loop through the list I pass them without knowing the structure of the object in the list and just extract the data?

VS 2008 Conversion From 2005 Project

Apr 16, 2010

I have a Visual Studio solution created in 2005 and I want to start working with it in 2008. I opened it and it was run through the wizard. My first error is a message that says: The Web Applicatin Project is configured to use IIS. You must install the following IIS components: IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility.So, I googled that and found this:IIS 7.0 is included with Windows Vista. However, when you first install Windows Vista, by default IIS 7.0 is not enabled. This topic describes how to enable IIS and configure it so that in Visual Studio you can create local IIS ASP.NET Web sites. This enables you to use a local copy of IIS to run and debug the Web site instead of using the ASP.NET Development Server.The bold is mine, because I want to know why I can't just use the ASP.NET Development Server? I always have in the past. Oh, and I'm not running Vista, I'm running Windows 7, but I don't think that matters.

Reporting Services 2005 And VS 2008

Mar 22, 2011

SQL server 2005

I have created a reports project through SQL Business intelligence studio, There is shared data source in it. The name of the sharedata source is MyReport.rds.I have added two new items to the project (reports folder) with names Survey.rdl and myProjectReport.rdl.

Before deploying it, I have specified three properties ( Throgh the project properties)

1) TargetDataSourceFolder=DataSources

2)TargetReportFolder= reports

3)TargetServerURL=http://localhost/reportserver and deployed it.

When I view it in the browser through

http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx

I get my folder called reports, and when I click on it I can see two reports, it works till this stage.

I want to use the same report in Visual studio 2008 so I have done the following in VS 2008

Visual Studio 2008

1) Added a page

2) Added Reportviewer Control to the page

3) Click Properties of Reportviewer and Choose <server Rreport>

4) Set Report Server URL: http://localhost/reportserver

5) set Report Path= /reports/

It comes up with the following error:

The path of the item '/reports/' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash. (rsInvalidItemPath)
