Crystal Reports :: Directly Generating PDF From Data In Memory
Jun 3, 2010
I am having one Asp.net 3.5 application with SQL Server 2005 backend. I am generating few complex crystal reports with some formula in crystal itself and complex paging and grouping constraints. Now we are planning to atomize this process. We have 10 reports on the screen so:
--user will click on each report
--report get open in Crystal Report Viewer
--User will generate PDF from crystal report.
Now, we are thinking to atomize this, rather than giving link to crystal, we want to generate PDF directly when that page opens rather than making above three steps. Is it possible to open Crystal report in memory, save it as PDF and close it? Well, we have data so you might think that why don't we directly generate PDF from data with the tools like iTextSharp or other but in that case what about the grouping, paging, formula which crystal handle itself?
I'm trying to print a crystal report directly to printer, I'm using a server side code PrintToPrinter(1, false, 1, 1) so the report is printed on the default printer of the the server . I need a way to let the report be printed directly to the client's printer . This is my Code
I am developing web application using csharp on visual studio 2008.I am able to generate reports, but I want just to export or generate reports in pdf only. How can I achieve this? The code I am using is below. But it is not working.
i cant access crysrtal report after deployment in IIS i have depolyed my website the pages where my crystal report is just blank .. how can i access crystal reports????
We would like to have an option to print a report directly from Crystal Report Viewer (from an APSX page).
When the user hits the print button on the report viewer, this brings up the preview in PDF and then the user has make an additional click on PDF file which inturn brings up the print settings window where we have the print option.
Is there a way to eliminate the steps in between so that when the user clicks the "Print Button" on the Crystal report viewer, it somehow directly brings up the print settings window. (Does not matter even if Acrobat Reader opens in background if the print settings window opens along with it)
I have been using Crystal Reports again after a few years of using SQL Reporting Services so I'm a bit rusty. I have a couple of reports which work ok but dont require the viewer or toolbar. Is it possible to either have a custom print button or to just go straight to printing the reports without going through the viewer first? Also when I print from the toolbar it then saves and displays the report as a pdf instead of printing the report directly, can I change this?
After reserving a ticket for an travel agency, I want generate a printable report using Crystal Report. I'm looking for a way to do that. Any video tutorial or something like that?
im using sap crystal report version 13.0.2000.0. i've 27,000 records to be printed but when i run my application the exception error is displayed "Out Of Memory".. i've my appliation in VS2010 and OS is server 64bit and 4GB RAM..
Iam getting this error when ever viewing an Crystal Report Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

When i run the application locally it works fine but when i publish it n access from it it gives the error asEither the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly.
I'm new to Visual Studio.NET . I need to integrate the crystal reports into an ASP.NET application. I generated Crystal report with the help of crystal report XI developer edition(Stand alone version and NOT from the one which comes from visual studio).
How to integrate this report with the web application.
We have quite a few reports which were developed earlier in Crystal Reports 8.5. We are now planning to use these reports in our web application developed in VS 2008 (C#).
What dlls are needed for calling 8.5 in the application and how should they be added to the application while shipping it to the client?
They are also struggling to get the code running. Would also need the code to call the report with parameters.
I'm new to Crystal Reports and am just trying to add some simple reports to my web application. In the non-report pages I've been using SqlDataSources to retrieve data from the database and would like to do the same for the report pages. I saw a tutorial that indicated I could do this by explicitly setting the data source for the report in the Page_Load callback of the ASPX page as shown below:

Is there a way to create "bound" fields w/o a database, since I'll be specify the database at runtime? Or is there a way to create the ".rpt" file w/ unbound fields, that get "bound" at runtime?Or is there a better way to do this altogether?
I have already generated crystal reports but i've made them static. but now i want to make the user to select the criteria for generating the reports. for eg., in one of them i want to show monthwise data so user should be able to select the month and year and that would be passed as parameter and compared to the existing data. provide me with proper exact code that can be used for giving parameters in such a report using C#.
In my current role, I support and develop a .net 1.1 website which was developed by my predecessor.
For generating reports/ invoices/ etc, the site uses a find and replace system reading a template rtf file with a stream reader and writing the output using a streamwriter to an rtf file.
I have been asked to generate a new report for the system which has many more tables than the previous reports and is generally more sophisticated.
I have taken a lot of time in trying to develop this report with not much success as the rtf formatting (e.g par for a line break) is to me quite difficult to master causing the document to crash infrequently in word (!) The rtf solution although frustrating is quite a simple format that can be managed in code. But it takes a lot of time to set up the documents...
Is there a .net code library or similar anyone is aware of that can write rtf to generate tables and other simple formatting. I am restricted to using .net 1.1
If I have the time would like to redevelop this system. I have googled for a more sophisticated system and have seen how to use html, etc. in word docs, but I don't really want to run word on the web server. What are the current best practices to generate invoices/ reports etc. from data using .net? Should I stick with this rtf method or is there an easier/quicker/friendlier way! In this regard I'd consider anything - .net 1 to 4
The application is a typical business system so any links to other resources for requirements such as a document generation system, email system, diary management (tasks to do for a specific user )
In my system Visual studio 2008 with sp1 and Crystal Reports XI Release 2.In Visaul studio 2008 ,while adding add reference it showing crystal reports version 10 instead of 11.How to solve the version problem.
I am considering using Crystal Report 2008 as my tool of creating reports on my webpage. The only problem which I'm facing is that I have no control of the remote server which hosts my site (besides uploading files). I can't run a MSI to deploy the CR runfiles.I can't find anywhere in the CR user manual of how to deploy the runtime files without running the msi, and I'm not even sure it's possible.Have anyone deployed CR 2008 without running the MSI and without having to register any files?
I have a field in my dataset with type nvarchar(1000). when I link it to crystal reports, it converts it to a field of type string with length set to 100. As a result of that, the string in that field is being truncated on the report. How can I increase the string length to 1000? (I already checked the "Can grow" option).
I have looked through the website and google about crystal reports and MVC. It seems that crystal reports does not goes well with MVC framework. Is that true? If that's the case, what is the best solution for me? I am assigned to generate graphs and reports by getting data directly from a database (Oracle) and populate them into a report document. Other than crystal report, what can i use.
Is crystal report capable of generating graphs? or do I need to download other add-ons in order to have a graph generation on my reports.
a myth has been passed to me by a senior who told me to 'always' design a crystal report using Add command and not through the table view (like selecting tables and linking them manually).I have been having a hard time writing the queries for master detail reports and making sub report links manually. It gets pretty confusing sometimes.I find it easy to design reports by just selecting two tables and dragging and dropping the link in crystal report designer.
I am creating the crystal report without database data, just i am read the data from text file and fill into dataset then genrate the crystal report but problem is here if i am export the crystal report into different format so he wants the database logon parameter.so in this case i have no database crendential because i am creating the report without database.
I used push method with my crystal report. I used a dataset which on page load loads 2 seperate datatables and are added to it. Everything works fine. But if the Milestones Datatable is empty, the crystal report shows none of the data related to the Projects Datatable, as if the table is empty. The Select Method of the business logic layer objects uses querystrings of the name ProjectNo. Below is a sample code.
