Custom Server Controls :: Handling Events In Dynamic Usercontrol?
May 27, 2010
I created a customDropdown usercontrol with Events and It worked fine.
Now I stored the path of the ascx file in the database table and i want to Load the ascx file and handle the Events dynamically in an aspx page.
To Load the usercontrol and access the public properties and method, I need to know the object i am trying to load, right?
For Example
FeaturedDDL c = (FeaturedDDL)Page.LoadControl("~/FeaturedDDL.ascx").
But I dont want to hardcode objectType "FeaturedDDL", coz i dont have that stored in my Database field.
Since I am loading the usercontrol by getting the path and name of the usercontrol from the database table, how will I know the ObjectType at that time?
How to accomplish that and also how to handle the events for these type of situation?
I added a Input (Text) control in my web form and turned it into an HTML server control so its an instance of HtmlInputText class.
If I double click on the control It only adds a OnClick event handler method inside the script tags in the HTML doc of the web form but how to I get to handle its Serverchange event exactly? does VS.net 2008 has no ability to auto wire up the event to the control, do I have to manually wire up the event handler?
I have the usual problem of dynamically created usercontrols not hitting the event handler for a linkbutton inside the control, but I've checked the usual problems and I can't work out what's wrong. I'm calling a function to create the controls at the bottom of my page.load (although I did try page.init as well just in case) outside of my page.ispostback check, and I'm setting the controls id's to a fixed name which is consistent across postbacks. Any ideas what's wrong?
[Code]....
Usercontrol code:
<asp:LinkButton runat="server" ID="lnkDeleteGroup" Text="Delete this group" />
for my dynamic user control, i am trying to do any event from that control (delete, update .... etc) but it disappeard when i make any event! this the code in the page to load it dynamically:
I have a custom control which contains (amongst other things) an imageButton.
I'm adding a handler to the "click" event of the imageButton however when the button is clicked the handler routine is not called. where I am going wrong with this? should I be handling the click event in some other way?
I have a custom ascx user control on my page that includes a dropdownlist. There is an nSelectedIndexChanged event handler that is connected to this dropdownlist. The first time the user selects a value, the page does a postback and the logic executes correctly. However, if the user then goes to change their selection, the event handler does not get triggered.
I have a particular scenario and I would like to know how I can implement it in the most efficient way. I also have some queries related to this. The application is a AJAX 1.0-Enabled ASP.NET 2.0 Web application.
I have a link, which when clicked I need to show a pop-up div. The contents of the div will be displayed using a usercontrol. The usercontrol will display the contents based on a query string value.
I would like to know:
1. How can I implement this in the most effecient way. I don't want to use a separate page on which I will have the usercontrol and then display the page in the div.
2. Suppose I call a JS function ShowDiv() on the click of the link, to display the pop-up div. Say, I call the function this way ShowDiv('querystring'). Now how will I pass the value 'querystring' to my usercontrol.
I have created lots of UserControls, but never tried CustomControl.Recently i created a Photo Gallery UserControl using Listview & Visual LightBox.Now i want to publish it as CustomControl. Here is my UserControl's code :
I tried both, loading the usercontrol when needed and I also tried adding it directly into the aspx.
Nothing worked. With the second one (what's meant to be the easiest option) I tried with delegates and events (but can't access de usercontrol event from page) and tried with properties (I can access properties but they're always empty)
I have a user control that consistes of a dropdown menu, a label, a textbox and a button. It resides in a html table, what i would like to do is on a keypress, such as the "insert" key, i would like to add the same control again directly on the next row, I have used programs that do this, but for the life of me can't figure out how its done...
I have a user control with a textbox and a gridview. When data is entered into textbox it has to get data from the database and populate in the gridview. The grid view has add, edit and delete events. The user control is loaded dynamically multiple times on to the page.My issue is when i have 2 or more user controls and if textbox of usercontrol1 is changed, it reloads both the controls and fires the postback event of textbox twice each for the user control, where as it has to execute only once. due to which the data modifications in the grid are lost as it pulls back the data once again from the database.
I'm working with a simple UserControl someone at my company created. It's basically just a DropDownList with a RequiredFieldValidator and some added properties (such as "Required", which controls the CSS styling of the DropDownList and whether the RequiredFieldValidator is Enabled or not).
Here is an example of the UserControl usage where a SqlDataSource is used to populate the ListItemCollection. I'm trying to specify an intial ListItem below (and would like the ability to add multilple ListItems if necessary) but can't seem to get this to work...
[Code]....
My code-behind looks as follows:
[Code]....
I've found several posts related to this but cannot seem to get the declarative ListItem to be added to the DropDownList.
I understand that using a WebControl is another option, but I'd like to learn how to get this method to work if possible.
How can I create a UserControl with a collection-type property which has a collection editor?
I've a CompositeControl with an ArrayList-type property which has CollectionEditor-type designer. You can see this property on Properties window with a "..." button which launches a collection editor. This works fine and all but I want to apply the same to a UserControl and I've couldn't manage to pull it off so far. I've done the same thing what I've done with my CompositeControl but the property either doesn't even show on Properties window of the UserControl or shows as a single value property with no "..." editor button.
I have a DetailsView control bound to an ObjectDataSource within a User Control (.ascx). It appears that the DetailsView.OnDataBound event is being fired on every page load or postback.
I do not see this behavior with a similiar DetailsView directly placed on an aspx page.
I am programatically adding a control to an aspx page and binding a server side event to an index changed event inside the control. (It's a RadListBox from Telerik's ASP.NET controls) The problem is that on the postback triggered from the control, the event doesn't hit its eventhandler because on the postback the control isn't defined. Is there a way to handle this without having to retrace the logic taken before and rebuild the controls so the events that stem from it are processed?
how do i get the values of the textboxes of my dynamicly created user controls. I have somthing similar to the code below which adds many instance of the same user control to a panel but with diffrent properties value :
[Code]....
and here is the code-behind for the control
[Code]....
and this is the .ascx
[Code]....
And here is what the controls look like when thay are created
[URL]
I know that i have to recreate the controls on each postback but i need to know how to get the values of the entered text for each textbox
I have a scenario where I've created a custom control that connects to a database and gets records from the last X number of months where X is any desired number. I use a "MinDate" parameter to determine how far back to look.
When I add my control to my page, how can I set the "MinDate" parameter to something like "DateTime.Today.AddMonths(-3)"? I've tried:
I have a user control called ucTriStateButton. It raises an event when it is clicked, called TriStateButtonClicked. If I put this user control on a page, it works fine. Here is the declaration on the .aspx page:
[Code]....
When the button is clicked the method tsbTest_TriStateButtonClicked executes correctly.
The problem is when I put the user control in template field of a GridView.
[Code]....
There is no way to hook the event handler to the control in Page_Load because I cannot get a reference to tsbMorning. So I did it in the RowDataBound event handler of the GridView, where I also do a bunch of other row-specific stuff. Although this builds and runs, the event is never actually subscribed to and so never gets fired.
So the question is - how can I handle an event from many instances of the same user control within a GridView? I am calling the same bit of code regardless of which user control is actually clicked. I only need to know that one was clicked.
I have developed a dynamic menu with asp.net, everything is believed correctly. The problem that I have is that there are items of the menu that have the empty route, that is to say NavigateUrl = "", and however the cursor that he/she takes the mouse when it passes above the links it is hand, and I want that, if he/she doesn't have route to which to go takes cursor=text.
I have proven putting it in the leaf of styles, putting it for code, but anything, when I pass the mouse above the text that puts in the menu it puts me the cursor with hand. I believe that the problem is that he/she is taking the style of the hyperlink, but this style I don't want to change.
I am using two user controls in my page. The controls are loaded dynamically one at a time. I'm just referencing the user controls in the page and loading them dynamically using 'LoadControl()'. Everything is working fine till now and the user can switch the controls one another.
Here the issue I found is eventhough the controls are working as expected and the data is visible, the rendered HTML contains only the first loaded user control's markup.
Even if the current control displayed is 'usercontrol2', the source shows 'usercontrol1' markup. How can I force the page to render 'usercontrol2' markup and remove 'usercontrol1' markup while loading'usercontrol2'?
