Custom Server Controls :: Table-Layout Attribute And MSDN Claims Re Capabilities?

Aug 30, 2010

I am developing a CompositeDataBoundControl that is basically a 'table' inside a 'div', in order to limit the size of the Control and use the scrolling capabilities of the 'div' tag ('RenderBeginTag("div").

So essentially the control is;
<div style="overflow:auto;width:400px;height:300px;">
<table style="table-layout:fixed;">

Custom Server Controls :: Category Attribute Of User Control Property Does Not Work Correctly In Categories Tab

Aug 19, 2010

I have a User Control (ascx) and a property which a want to display in my categories tab in Visual Studio in the category named "Styles".

[Code]....

And here is the problem: Actually I do not need a get, because I only have to set the property (write only property). But when I omit the get, the property is displayed in the "Misc" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio. Only when I code the get as well, then the property is displayed correctly in the "Styles" category in the categories tab in Visual Studio.

Does anybody know why? How can I display the category correctly only with set?

Forms Data Controls :: Best Control Or Setup To Display A Table Layout?

Aug 3, 2010

That can be setup to display certain number of records per page and allow paging.

I have tried the repeater, but having issues with paging since its linked to a SQLDatasource.

I have done a search on "Paging Repeater" and all examples are setup with XML and other datasources and im not able to figure out how to modify that to work with my SQLDatasource.

Forms Data Controls :: Change Grid View From Table To Other HTML Layout?

Aug 24, 2010

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, I'm coming at this from a front-end perspective, and don't really know how to deal with data views in ASP.NET.

Basically, I'm trying to change the layout of some repeated data from a straight table, to something more design-heavy. It's the same data, just re-organised slightly. The current ASP.NET code looks like this:

[Code]....

However, I want to replace all of this, such that each 'row' of data renders like this:

[Code]....

How is this done? Can I just edit the code above, or would I need to do something more advanced in terms of not using a data grid and using some other control instead? Is it something that can be done in just a .aspx file or would it need to be done in C# and compiled?

Forms Data Controls :: Set Attribute In Custom User Control And Keep Getting Zero?

Jul 30, 2010

[Code]....

I am having a problem setting the SystemObjectRecordID attribute of my custom control inside a repeater. Currently, the value winds up as zero in the database. Things I have checked:

1) The datatype of the DB column (bigint) and the datatype of AlertId (long) and the datatype of the getter/setter SystemObjectRecordID variable (long) match.

2) If I set '<%# ((Alert)Container.DataItem).AlertId %>' to the Text attribute of a label I get the expected results. So, it has something to do with my custom control and specifically how data isbound to the SystemObjectRecordID attribute.

Now, going to the server, below is what I have for databinding (The page is Default.aspx.cs and the namespace is Company.ProjectWeb.Profiles):

[Code]....

Currently I am trying to pass the value received from a literal (because I know that the values are received as expected here) to the SystemObjectRecordId object. Still isn't working. I am still getting a value of zero when I set a breakpoint and look at the value of SystemObjectRecordId in the codebehind of my control:

Custom Server Controls :: How To Get The Value Of Readonly Properties Of Server Controls Inside A Custom Server Control

Apr 4, 2010

I have a custom server control inheriting from CompositeControl. It consists of two RadioButtonlist controls that are rendered side by side in an html table. The number of ListItems in each RadioButtonList is not known until runtime. Depending on how many items each list contains, the RepeatColumns property of each list is set differently. To do this in the handler for the ItemDataBound event I need to get the count of ListItems in each RadioButtonList. How do I expose the Items.Count property of each internal RadioButtonList as a top-level property? I tried using a getter to return the count but this generates a compile-time error to the effect that the count cannot be assigned to--even though I have not created a setter.

Similarly, in the handler for the Submit event, I need to get the ClientID of each internal RadioButtonList to pass to a method that checks for data changes. How do I expose the ClientID of each component RadioButtonList as a top-level property?

I can of course index the Controls collection of the composite control to access the child control and read its properties--but that defeats the whole point of making a complex, independent custom server control.

Custom Server Controls :: Custom Composite Control With Custom Templated Child Controls?

Mar 22, 2011

I am trying to build a custom composite control, which allows me to add custom content to each child control. It's a similar concept to what you have with a GridView and TemplateColumn. The markup used to place the control on the page would end up being something like this:

[Code]....

I have the code below, which allows me to put that markup on the page without throwing any errors, and it renders all the correct HTML, except it doesn't render the contents of the ColumnTemplate. I have replaced the Render() code with a comment because it's quite long winded and doesn't add anything important here:

[Code]....

I have tried to follow examples on MSDN and other forums but I can't make this work. I think I'm missing the code to render the contents of the template, but I don't know how to hook that up.
