I have some rendering logic for custom markup (a'la bbcode, but not bbcode). So that when I'm getting the stuff from DB I'm then calling MyRender.ToHTML(model.text)... Now what I do today is I just have a form below and I do a post and add the item and return the same view. My question is - how to do it with ajax? Should I create a control and return HTML a'la winforms? Is that sexy? How do you do something like that? Or should I drop it? Maybe duplicate the rendering logic with javascript?

I have currently on multiple pages a modal popup that displays the information below, we are getting to the point where we need to call this popup from multiple locations, currently i have duplicate setups on each page that i want to use it on, but its becoming a mess to manage when a change is needed.. so im looking to see if what i have within the modal popup can be turned into a control that i can call anywhere thru out the site and have just 1 setup to maintain going forward..If its possible to create a control that can then be placed within the modal popup and server the same purpose that would be great any links here is what i have within the modal popup that i have on atleast 3 pages currently..
We are developing a custom .NET directory listing style application for a client and we require a powerful search solution. The application will be built in ASP .NET C# on SQL Server 08. The application is based around data which users to the organisation can enter in a profile management style area. Fields can be textboxes, textareas, selection boxes, multiselects etc. A user from the main website needs to be able to use the search function to find a result, but this result should search the entire database and not only base the results on one or two fields. It could be anything within any of the fields the user can fill out or select etc.
Can anyone help me find a possible solution for a .NET powered search engine we can use for this application? It must be preferably C#, running on .NET 3.5 and SQL Server 08. The database is a completely custom built schema and so there is no schema example to show or that can be shown. If you need more information to provide a satisfactory answer let me know and I'll try to provide some more information specific to what you ask.
I want to create a custom Toolbox in asp.net which will contain all custom control that i have made. Now the user will drag these controls from custom toolbox at run time and create form. I tried but did not succeeded.
I am trying to create a web custom control but I am unable to find the templete that should be in my projects window. I am using Visual Studio Pro and it should be there. Doc's say standard version doesn't have it but thats all I can find.
I'm currently involved with developing a C# CMS-like web application which will be used to standardise our development of websites. From the outset, the idea has been to keep the core as simple as possible to avoid the complexity and menu/option overload that blights many CMS systems. This simple core is now complete and working very well.
We envisisaged that the system would be able to accept plugins or modules which would extend the core functionality to suit a given projects needs. These would also be re-usable across projects. For example, a basic catalogue and shopping basket might be needed. All the code for such extensions should be in seperate assemblies. They should be able to provide their own admin interfaces and front-end code from this library. The system should search for available plugins and give the admin user the option to enable/disable the feature. (This is all very much like WordPress plugins)
It is crucial that we attack this problem in the correct way, so I'm trying to perform as much due dilligence as possible before jumping in.
I am aware of the Plugin Pattern (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972962.aspx) and have read some articles on it's use. It seems reasonable but I'm not convinced it's necessarily the correct/best technique for this situation. It seems more suited to processing applications (image/audio manipulation, maths etc).
Are there any other options for achieving this kind of UI extensibility functionality? Or is the plugin pattern the way to go?
I'd also be interested if anybody has links to articles that explain using the plugin pattern for this purpose?
I am trying to create a list view to provide functionality similiar to the pages in this article(will end up being much simpler in my case)

Basically I need three columns. Column 1 will be populated on page load with a list of user names and some data. Clicking on a user from column 1 will query for data regarding that user and bring back multiple rows to be displayed in Column 2. Clicking on data from a row in column 2 will return rows to be displayed in column 3. I am just curious as to how some of you guys would approach this. Ive looked at grouping templates and some articles regarding listviews with multiple rows but. Would it be easier to use 3 seperate listviews? Any ideas or articles to point me in the right direction?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to do the following:On every page (or every page I so desire), I'd like to put a common control widget (e.g. think - Search functionality that contains a textbox+button). What's the best way to do this, and who handles the submit button (assuming it is a submit button)?i.e. what does my ViewUserControl look like? Does it have a form? does it use jQuery onclick""? Does it post to the main View's action method, or can I redirect it to another Controller/Action
I am going to create some custom controls to use them in different projects. Therefore I found some helpful content on microsoft's support sites. These again dealt with overriding the html-render-method, but I am still wondering if this is the most elegant way, because in my opinion this just means outsourcing of some code from the view to the class file.Do I misunderstand the way of how custom controls should be used?
