I have a WebMethod that is inside of an ASP.NET Web Service application. I use a Try Catch block inside the WebMethod. If an exception is thrown and I want to see the ex.Message is there a way to use a messsagebox? Maybe there is some Imports statement that can be used so you can use a messagebox inside an ASP.NET Web Service application. I could declare a string for use to display the ex.Message but then the WebMethod would have to return that string somehow. That's something I don't know how to do. As long as no exceptions are thrown I'm ok but if an exception is thrown it's good to know what it is. The ASP.NET Web Service application is using .NET Framework 2.0.
In another thread gep13 was talking about creating a class so that you could return more than one thing from a WebMethod and if that's what I have to do that's fine but if there's a simpler way to see the ex.Message then that's ok too.

I am trying to implement Url routing in asp.net 4.0. I just a created a small test application. I am trying to browse the pages kept inside the folder. It works fine when i am running in Visual studio..but when i hosted the application in IIS7 then it showed an error.
HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found
The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
The code i used is. (i am using master page too.)
protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CustomRouteTable(RouteTable.Routes);
}
void CustomRouteTable(RouteCollection routes)
{
routes.MapPageRoute("Telugu", "Movie/Telugu", "~/Telugu/Telugu.aspx");
}
in my default.aspx page i kept a button and on click of the button i wrote.
protected void btnTelugu_Click(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e)
{
Response.RedirectToRoute("Telugu");
}

I have a service that works great on my development box. It uses JQuery to hit my web service, and then the JSON results are sent back.
The web service is located on our basePage.cs. We didn't want to put out an external WebService for this. Our on beta box something different is happening.
The web page seems to be trying to call the web method correctly - the JSON data is being sent... but the server doesn't seem to know it's a webmethod. here's my service function (it's in our basepage.cs which inherits from Page).

I have several routes defined in my Global.asax; now, when I'm on a page I need to figure out what is the route name of the current route, because route name drives my site menu. I can't find a way to get current route name.

I am building a simple performance logger that hooks in to Application_EndRequest / Application_BeginRequest
I would like to send my logger the name of the action and controller as some sort of key.
How can I access this information? (Don't mind if I have to intercept it earlier on and keep it around in the context)

My web site has a handler (FileDownload.ashx) that deals with all file download requests. I've recently migrated my site to ASP.Net 4.0, and it now uses routing extensively. Everything works fine when dealing with page requests (aspx), but it's not working with my handler - I encounter the following error:
Type '<snip>.Handlers.FileDownload' does not inherit from 'System.Web.UI.Page'.
This makes sense, as routing is only implemented in the page. So, my question is, what steps do I need to take to be able to use routing and my ASHX together? I want to be able to extract RouteData.Values from the url.
public class FileDownload : IHttpHandler
{
}

Is there any ways to create our own RouteData from a URL string in asp.net mvc?
for example I have a URL string like this.
Url: http://localhost/supports/online chat?operator=A
From RouteData, I can find what is controller and action name.
but I have no idea to put it in RouteData.

Although I'm not using routing in an MVC application, this post seems to fit best here :)
I'm trying to access the datatokens that I've passed with the MapPageRoute-method and in a simple Webforms page it works, but in Application_AuthorizeRequest it seems like it's not populated yet.. DataTokens.Count returns 0 although I have passed one item
Is there an alternate way to access the DataTokens? The routing has initialized (it seems), because there's a major difference between url's that is mapped and one that's not..
From the regular Webforms page I'm using Page.RouteData.DataTokens["PagesID"] and in the global.asax file I'm using Request.RequestContext.RouteData.DataTokens["PagesID"]

I have the following (abbreviated) code:
<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server" DataKeyNames="ItemID" DataSourceID="LinqDataSource1">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCategory" runat="server" SelectedValue='<%# Eval("Category") %>'
DataSource="<%# GetCategories() %>" DataTextField="Text" DataValueField="Value" />
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:ListView ID="lvParticipants" runat="server" DataSource='<%# Eval("Participants") %>' >
<InsertItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCountry" runat="server" SelectedValue='<%# Eval("Country") %>'
DataSource="<%# GetCountries() %>" DataTextField="Text" DataValueField="Value" />
</InsertItemTemplate>
</asp:ListView>
<ItemTemplate>
</asp:FormView>
When the FormView is in Edit mode, ddlCategory is populated as expected by calling GetCategories(), which returns a List of categories. However, when the ListView is in Insert mode, ddlCountry is empty. I put a break point in GetCountries(), but it never gets called. If I change the name of the method, I get an error. So it recognizes the method at compile time, but does not call it at run time. I'm guessing this is an embedded binding issue of some kind, but I'm hoping someone can save me a lot of time by pointing out the solution.

I am loading the autocomplete extender properly but I need the PK from the selectedValue. I have looked at other examples and they do NOT show how to drill into the tabcontainer, then drill into the listview, and then locate the extender value. Here is what I have so far. My "TABCONTAINER" value shows the extender correctly but I am unable to locate it.

I have a boolean / bit value in the database called "is_paid". Depending on this value I want to Disable a button. (the same would go for example to set a textbox not Visible, but anyway)
What I want is to Disable the button, if my boolean is 1 (true).
First I tried to convert my boolean value to text:
<asp:Button
ID="btnCalculatePayment"
runat="server"
Text="Submit"
onclick="btnCalculatePayment_Click" Enabled='<%#
Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("is_paid")) ? "False" : "True" %>'
/>
But got an error:
CS0030: Cannot convert type 'string' to 'bool'
However, if I use it one a Label it works fine: <asp:Label
ID="lblIsPaid"
runat="server"
Text='<%#
Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("is_paid")) ? "True" : "False" %>'></asp:Label>
So another trial I did was to CAST the data from the database to be the text that I want, like so:
SELECT not_paid = CASE WHEN is_paid = 0 THEN 'True' WHEN is_paid = 1 THEN 'False' END ....
And my code changed to:
<asp:Button
ID="btnCalculatePayment"
runat="server"
Text="Submit"
onclick="btnCalculatePayment_Click" Enabled='<%#
Bind("not_paid") %>'
/>
But got this error:
System.InvalidCastException was unhandled by user code
Message=Specified cast is not valid.
