in my website there is a module in which i m fetching the data of present students in the gridview and i m entering there marks in the gridview textbox column (created by using item template)...I want to add required field validation to the textbox columns so that after clicking the submit button there should be an error message displayed if any of the textbox is empty...
View 1 Repliesin my module there are data of students for H.S.C., C.E.T, AND H.S.C+C.E.T. so when i run the gridview page all the data of all streams together is displayed so i sort the data using a dropdownlist...means if 1 select the H.S.C in dropdownlist only the H.S.C students are being displayed.so the problem is when i sort the data by selecting a stream in dropdownlist at that time the error message of required field validator is displayed...
1) I wil select the stream from Dropdownlist and click the "sort button"
2) After the data is been sorted and i will enter the values in the TextBox and if i'll miss any of the textbox blank and i click on the "submit button" after dat the error should be displayed
as "Required".
I have a repeater control and inseid it's ItemTemplate and AlternateItemTemplate, I have the following code (toy code):

The problem is, when I click the button it shows a '*' in front of every textbox in odd or even items, instead of validating only the textbox in that item.
How can I validate only the text box inside the item in which the button being clicked resides?
I have a webform developed in VB.NET and I am facing a strange problem. In the webform I have a GridView control which has two bound fields (Item # and Item name) coming from a master table and infront of these two fields I have placed a TEXTBOX control as TEMPLATE FIELD to take any value of particular item. But after filling all the textboxes when i clicked on submit button it loops thru the items and there i need to read the textbox value of that particular item in a variable but unfortunately the value is blank even the data is there. i am implementing a update query module.i am displaying all fields from a table for a term searched. well now i am implementing update option for the record which are displayed, i have like 70 columns in my table, and i want to know how to restrict some selected fields to be only read only while the form can be updated ?Like if user select to update a record then some selected field such as "Timestamp, UID etc some selected fields" remains READ ONLY !

I have a gridview on my aspx page having templatefields. In one of my templatefield i have a textbox with requiredfieldvalidator for validating input in textbox. I have another templatefield having checkbox in it. Now i want whenever user check the checkbox and then click on insert button, then first of all requiredfieldvalidor validates the textbox input for that particular row and then perform the insert operation. I have an edit template on gridview which opens a text box and button with a custom validator .
On button press I have to validate the text in edit item template with a text field in gridview row template.
I am having a hard time fetching the data of the edit template textbox. Even though both custom validator and textbox are in same edit item template but intellisense is not picking it up.
Also the custom validator server_validate event is using "object source" instead of "object sender"
How do I fetch the edit item template text for comparison

THe Customer table is related to the Invoice Table thru the CustomerID. The relationship is defined in SQL Server and is displayed in the DBML.
I have created a template field for the CustomerID field in the Gridview. I would like to display the CustomerName when the Item Template is displayed and a DropDownList in the Edit Template. The DropDownList works great, but I cannot seem to figure out how to display the CustomerName in then Item Template.
I seem to remember seeing in some video that you can simply drag the CustomerName into the CustomerID Item Template Field. But I can't seem to find the customerName field. The DataSource includes the Customer Table because of the relationship, but no fields are displayed.
I suspect this is real simple, but I cannot seem to find an article or video that explains how to do this.
i have a gridview which consists of databounds and dropdownlist control. When I press the Add Grid Row Button, it will insert a row. Now my question is, if the user selected an item in dropdownList in the firstrow and the user click the AddGridRowBtn Again which will generate the 2nd row, how would i maintain the selectedItem in the dropdownlist after postback?

I have a gridview ...asp 2.0 and VS 2005.The Gridview has template fields and I am using a Header Templete and an Item Template field.Within the Item template fields I am using a asp: table and within the table I am using different asp controls to bind data to the gridview
Here is the issue ...I want that each datafield should align with each other eactly i.e. symmetricaly each column wise.The problem as of now is that as each row of data is displayed in a new table and as a result each column aligns differently.How can I align the columns with each other?

When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

Get Gridview item template textbox value to string variable?
I have a gridview that contains a textbox, a drop down, and a checkbox. The commandfield of the gridview has ShowEditButton="true". All of the gridview updating takes place in the "_OnRowUpdating" event. I have a Panel above the gridview with a table and some fields. Everything in the gridview works perfectly, the edit, the update etc., however, when I add a requiredfieldvalidator to the panel above the gridview, the gridview update functionality no longer works. e.g., clicking the update button does not appear to fire. If I comment out the requiredfieldvalidator, everything works fine.

View 4 RepliesWhen it comes to field validation, when I use a Compare Validator to make sure a date is a date or a numeric field has a number, I must also use a Required Field Validator to make sure there is something actually enetered. In other words, the Compare Validator allows a blank value even though a blank is not a date or number or whatever.
Is using both a Required Field Validator and a Compare Validator the way to do this or is there some way to make the Compare Validator also require input of some kind?
