How can I use required field validators in the insert item template in a listview control? The empty fields in the insert item template are preventing the user from deleting or updating ay other row.

When I get an error it displays next to the control its validating and also inside the validation summary control. I only want the error to display in one place; inside the validation summary control. I tried making the required field validator invisible but then it didn't display anywhere.How can I get the errors to only display in the validation summary control? There is no need to display them twice it just clutters up the page.

I have required field validators in my ASP.NET application form.
In the button click event of the FORM, i.e. OnClientClick(), I am calling a javascript function to validate the controls in this same page. Due to this the required field validators are not getting fired.
I need both the javascript function be fired on the button click , as well as required field validators also to work efficiently.
I have created a form with several textboxes and a dropdown list and assigned a required field validator to each of them. I also have a master page with several links to other pages, some made using <a href=..> and some linkbuttons. The problem I am having is that when I click the linkbutton links they do not redirect to the proper page, rather they trigger the validators for all textbox fields and display the validator characters next to each textbox (and the dropdown). When I fill out the form, those links redirect properly. The links created using <a href=..> do not cause this problem.

i am implementing a update query module.i am displaying all fields from a table for a term searched. well now i am implementing update option for the record which are displayed, i have like 70 columns in my table, and i want to know how to restrict some selected fields to be only read only while the form can be updated ?Like if user select to update a record then some selected field such as "Timestamp, UID etc some selected fields" remains READ ONLY !

View 2 RepliesI have a list view with a label that shows "Step #x", another label with the instructions, and then 2 linkbuttons for editing or deleting. At the footer of the ListView is another button "Add New Step" which opens up an empty TextBox and two buttons to save and cancel. I would also like it to increment the label, but I can seem to find the control in the code behind to change it's text. How do I do this?

We are using regular expression and required field validators. They work fine, especially in out of the box environments like the log in control.
When used on other controls, e.g. a textbox, they also work, but we note that the whole site is in effect shut down until the expression is valid. I.e. the user cannot click cancel, or a link. The site only starts working again after the expression has been made valid.
How can this be fixed?
The validators should only apply to the control to validate and to the control that would cause the value of that control to be posted back to the server (e.g. a button), not the whole site.
I have a gridview which the columns are created programmatically.
When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

I have a listview set up in "flow" mode where the existing records are all on an extended page so you can scroll down to any record.
The InsertItem Template is in the first position, making it easy to insert a new record.
And one can scroll down the page to any record, click the edit button and update that record -- nice having everything on one scrollable page.
I am running into a problem with validations. I have validation controls restricting inputs for all the textboxes on the Insert Item template. They work fine. And on Item Inserted I am running a page validation:

which works fine also.
The problem occurs when I scroll down to an existing record, and go to edit it. I have all the same validation constraints on the textboxes for the EditItemTemplate as I have on the InsertItemTemplate. But I cannot successfully do a page validation on updating the record. The code I am using on update is:

All the controls in the Edit Item template are part of ValidationGroup "edit1" and those of the InsertItem Template are part of ValidationGroup "edit2"
How can I get around receiving validation errors on the InsertItem Template when I am trying to validate just the EditItemTemplate when both are present on the page?
I am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.

Using a listview control for the first time... I need a button for each item, and of course I need to handle the click event for the buttons... upon clicking a particular button I of course need to know which item the button is associated with so the appropriate action can be taken...
In VS, I can't select the button and see my list of available events in the properties window like is normally done for controls outside of templates like this... what do I need to do?
I have a ListView Which displays Customer, product, price, Quantity and comments from database.The User can either edit it or Insert new items. In Edit Item template and Insert item template, i need to add a image button next to the textbox, which when clicked, will display a pop up window with list of customers or products.I have been doing it with the normal aspx page with textboxes. View 2 RepliesWhat I'm trying to do is: I have a listview control on my page and in my code behind, I created an SQLDataSource object which I defined its Select, Delete, Update and Insert Command strings. I then binded that datasource to my listview. When I load the page, it's obvious the select command works. however, when I perform the insert, the ItemInserted event triggers, but the itemInserted doesn't trigger and there is nothing inserted in my database.I'm not sure what to do here. I also hard coded the insert values in my insert command. So it's not depending on the form values.
View 3 RepliesI have a web form for handling invoices which has a form view. When I'm in insert item template, I need to have various fields. Some of them are contract number, invoice number, register date and other that are easy to handle. But there is a dropdown list related with a table of prices (the table has price name, price initial payment, number of payments, amount of month fee and so on). So, when the dropdown is selected, fields related with price should get their values from price table, and then the user decides to keep them or type in new values. How can I get it done? Should I use a Dynamic populate extender or type all the code behind using SelectedIndexChanged method to populate price related controls?

In the webform I have a GridView control which has two bound fields (Item # and Item name) coming from a master table and infront of these two fields I have placed a TEXTBOX control as TEMPLATE FIELD to take any value of particular item. But after filling all the textboxes when i clicked on submit button it loops thru the items and there i need to read the textbox value of that particular item in a variable but unfortunately the value is blank even the data is there.
