Apr 19, 2010the problem is that it will insert a new record in a mysql table, I have already done the mapping of the mysql db and I have already done tests returning data and everything works. Now I read from a file, where there are queries written, I have them run me back and the result of true or false based on the final outcome of single query written to the file. Txt; I did this:

Cast Exception When Try To Insert Entity In Entity Framework (using Code-f)
Feb 9, 2011I get an cast exception when i am trying to insert an entity in Entity Framework (using code-first). From this code :

But I get an error when I hit myObject.myOtherObject.prop1 = 3 because myOtherObject hasn't been initialized. How do I initialize an child object under myObject?

Mar 23, 2011I have a webservice which of course has to be .net 3.5 (a side note is does anyone know why you can't create a webservice using .net 4.0?).
Anyhow it is using entity framework, which I have recently discovered was a really bad mistake to try to use this in .net 3.5.
I have a table "Licenses" with the following columns: LicenseKey, ProductCode, OrderID, Seq, UserName.
In my asp.net 4.0 application I can simply do the following to perform an update:

But it appears there is no ExecuteStoreCommand in .net 3.5 with entity framework. Can anyone explain to me how to accomplish the same thing? The thing I need to point out is that because this is a multi-user access service. I need to verify that SQL will only update the given record where OrderID and Seq is what I tell it ONLY if the UserName is already null. So if two users process the same statement at the same time only one would work and the other would not because the sql should fail (or return 0, rather than a 1) for the second one.

There is no separate Entity, because there is only the PK/FK in the AssessmentGrade. I have looked at some tutorials, but none of them seem to address my situation.

Jun 16, 2010I am new to Entity Framework and working my way through it little by little. I think I have it figured out on how to get data into and out of 1 table at a time now the challenge is 2 tables into a gridview.
I have a user table that has a list of threads that a user can mark to track. Easy enough. Assign the userid number & threadid to a table with a push button while the user is logged in and viewing any of the posts that are on that thread. The new challange is to get only the posts that the user has marked to track. SQL easy. Entity not sure what to do.
If I make a view or stored procedure and add it to the database that would be an extra step. To join the 2 tables as in sql Select posts from posts where track.userid = @userid join track on post.userid=track.userid Seems Entity was made to avoid this type of thing. Than once the data is gathered I need to bind it to a gridview()

Mar 30, 2011I use a Detailsview, Entity Data Source to edit/update my table with only 3 columns.(it has primary keys).
Everything works fine inserts/edit in dev environment. but when i run this in release mode. i cannot update existing data in the database with the detailsview. whenever i update and save page gets refreshed, but nothing gets updated. but whenever i insert a new record, and then i try editing it. it works.?
Note: i handle DetailsviewItemUpdating,DetailsviewItemInserting events to do some custom checks.
