Jan 29, 2010I have an edit template on gridview which opens a text box and button with a custom validator .
On button press I have to validate the text in edit item template with a text field in gridview row template.
I am having a hard time fetching the data of the edit template textbox. Even though both custom validator and textbox are in same edit item template but intellisense is not picking it up.
Also the custom validator server_validate event is using "object source" instead of "object sender"
How do I fetch the edit item template text for comparison

Dec 28, 2010I've set up a page that uses JavaScript to hide or show rows in an HTML table, depending on the state of a checkbox.
So far, so good. But this is a data entry form and some rows include validation controls. However, it appears that if I hide a row (using JavaScript: style.display = 'none') that contains a validation control, the control still validates on an attempt to postback.
way I can do this but have the validation controls not do anything if that row is hidden?

I've been used some code I found on dotnetjunkies.com but the client-side validation didn't work. I've been attempting to modify it to get the client-side javascript validation to work with no luck. Dec 1, 2010I have some problem with the custom validtor, I do validate at both client side & server side, and i have noticed that the client side code has been executed when I clicked Submit..
More details:
The page contains some Text boxes & one submit button, and all is client-server validated, the problem that when the end user selects the file path through browse control, the code will auto-fill in the file name textbox, and it gives the option to edit; The code which is doing this in the custom validtor client handler, here is the problem it is on_submit click handler, the script function has been called again....!
I have no idea if this is the correct behavior, But I don't want the script code to be executed when any server events fired... !

Custom Server Controls :: Extended GridView.Rows Collection Always = PageSize Even On Last Page?
Mar 22, 2010Using VS2005, VB code behind,
I am extending the GridView control to include a custom pager for a custom paging scheme (only one page returned from the database at a time rather than all records). In my testing a discovered an issue - on my last page of data, the GridView's rows property always returns a collection of PageSize page, rather than the actual number of records on the page, with non-data fill records being empty rows.
For example, suppose I have 23 records in my database. Assuming a PageSize of 10, when I page to the last page of data the gridview it properly displays the last 3 recrods - but when I handle the GridView's CommandName="Select" event the GridView's Rows collection contains 10 records, the last seven of which are empty.
I set a break point in just before I call GridView.DataBind and verified that the DataTable used as the DataSource for the last page of data does in fact only contain the 3 expected records. But when I set a breakpoint on the Sub that handles the "Select" GridView command, the GridView.rows collection contains 10 records, the last 7 of which are empty.
This post[URL] and comments make note of the issue but the solution prescribed by the author does not seem to work.

C# - Order Of Postback Event Handler And Validate Method Of All Validator Controls?
Aug 11, 2010I'm learning asp.net page life cycle. I find an article on MSDN [URL] It says that If the request is a postback, control event handlers are called. After that, the Validate method of all validator controls is called, which sets the IsValid property of individual validator controls and of the page. And the picture in the article also says validate fires after event handling. If this is true how can I get status of validator when I handling the event?

Oct 22, 2010I have extended a gridview to add an additional header with following two hyperlink controls "Select All" and "Clear All". These will operate on checkboxes in the data rows of the grid. I hide the column headers as I only want to show one column with checkboxes and "Select/Clear All" links. Everything is working as expected. Now, I wanted to add a scrollbar to my grid control, I did add the scroll bar using div but what it does is, it includes the "Select All and Clear All" links aswell. I only need to add the scrollbar to datarows and not to the header.I am trying to extend my control to include hte scrollbar by adding div during Render function. But how will I determine or loop through header rows? How will i get the header row with hyperlinks that I created above?? In Render if I do this.HeaderRow, it gets the original column header and not the custom header.

Does A Custom Validator Have To Be Used With The Validator Callout Extender
Jul 6, 2010I have a validator callout extender that works, it shows the callout box. But, it does a postback. It didn't do a post back the first time I clicked the button but it did for subsequent times. I read on the AJAX site that a custom validator must be used with this for it to work. I'm currently using this with a required field and regular expression validator. It works, the callout appears, but it doesn't work every time with out the post back.I posted this to see if there is a way to get this to work with a required field and regular expression validator, with out using a custom validator. I'm using the newest release of the toolkit, so I thought the documentation may be old, since the callout is appearing.

Jan 14, 2011I am using c# with VS 2010 and dynamic data. I have a gridview that is populated by scaffolding. I then want to use the "Delete" command on the row. While the command works fine, it does not seem to know the datarecord has child tables in a one to many relationship, thus it wont properly delete the child tables before deleting the parent table. Which is fine, i can call some linq to sql to get the table id and delete all of its children before the parent table is deleted. Odd thing is, the Gridview is retruning "" emtpry strings for the cell that has the table uniqe ID.
