Is there a cleaner way to check for a null value comming from the database?
Right now i am doing this

There has to be a better what than doing this on every row which could possibly be null

I get error for IsDbNull - Error 1 The name 'IsDBNull' does not exist in the current context. What's the best way to check for null values returned from db? also I get errors on both lines where (e.Item.FindControl(ltlLiteral")); is present ERror: Cannot apply indexing with [] to an expression of type 'object'
I'm really new at asp.net 3.5 I'm comming from Classic ASP and I have been experimenting with ASP.NET. I'm trying to use the ListView Control to display a products catalog comming from a database. My first test was succesfull but I have a question.I want to be able to display the title of the product in Bold if certain conditions exists for that product. I tried using the ItemDataBound event but I don't know how I to get the value from the database field.I have the following code

I have req where i have to check the value coming from db is null or not and assign value according to that.Problem here is the field datatype is 'Datetime' so all the time when I tried to use the below line of code its giving me error.How can I pass a null value to datetimefield if value coming from db is null.

I am very new to ASP .NET and am getting above error when trying to insert a new record into a SQL database. I have turned on Option Explicit On so the default date of 01/01/1900 does not get assigned to this field automatically. Since most of the people in the database will not have a date of death, I need to have "blank" deathDate. When I run the stored procedure within SQL and choose pass null value, the Insert Procedure works fine. When I attach to Web Form, however, I get String was not recognized as a valid DateTime error. How can I set it so Null values are accepted into this date field.

I'm developing a website using asp.net 2.0 . I have retrieved a record from database through the query.

Sometimes, there is no record matching this query and so null value is retrieved. My question is how to find that the null value is returned. Since If (no record found i.e NULL) certain actions needs to be done and if (records found i.e NOT NULL) ceratin different actions needs to be carried out.

my table field allows null values. but my code below does not work unless a value is assigned to my variable even though the glable variable is initialised to 0; tried the DBNull.Value - still, it gives me error as the table in question is linked and expecting a value.

I'm using C# and SQL Server. I have one gridview which contain 3 columns "ID, COMPLETED (either yes or no), BY (adminID that completed)" and adminID can be null.
If user selected "yes" in COMPLETED column then how can I make sure that adminID in BY column is NOT empty or adminID entered is EXIST in database.
I am working on a page where the user first selects a state from a drop down, then a city from a checkbox list (eventually able to select multiple cities, but have to figure out how to do one first). The checkbox list is dependent upon the state selected. I would like the selected value of the checkbox to be submitted into the ListingLocation table of the database. In the code I have written I have included a label that displays the id value of the selected box when submitted just to make sure that the checkbox is providing the correct value. For some reason when I select a state and then check a city and click submit, no value is written into the database. The label text changes to the number I want entered into the database, so it is generating the correct number, but not submitting. I have included my code below.

I am making a class with an optional paramiter which will be a List<> paramiter. I want to set it's default value to null so I have used List<Params> Param = null. What am not 100% sure is checking the list to see if it was set to null or not. Is using:

Ok, I am getting this error on a number of my .aspx pages: Error while checking url '/': Key cannot be null. Parameter name: key Interestingly, I get this on my homepage on which the only .NET code is in the form of two includes, e.g: <% Response.WriteFile("/includes/footer.aspx") %> These includes in themselves only contain HTML, so I assume the issue can only be related to these or a configuration issue?
