my table field allows null values. but my code below does not work unless a value is assigned to my variable even though the glable variable is initialised to 0; tried the DBNull.Value - still, it gives me error as the table in question is linked and expecting a value.
I have create a web page having dynamically created text boxes if i select value in dropdown list, text boxes auto generates .but i want to save all text box values in SQL server database after clicking on submit button using ajax/JSON request
Using a class component, an Object data source and a formview I am successfully pulliing data from a SQL database. In some cases the rows contain one or more Null values and I would like them to be ignored completely. My simple code follows:-
I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.
I was develop an application (ASP.Net) Using (VS.Net C# 2010 & SQL Server 2008)
And I was applying (3-tyer Basics) and I'm not using wizard forever in my application.
The problem is :
When I try to passing the parameters to database, some fields I don't type it But it's show in database (Empty like "Space") in text fields and (01-01-1900) in date fields
Although it's must be (Null) .
How I can pass parameters with Null Values for the fields that's not typed?
I have a typical gridview/formview master control setup. When I try to update or insert I don't get any errors but it also doesn't work. When I try to insert data all I get are null values and when I update, none of the values are updated. The formview looks like its working, but just doesn't. The primary key is an identity and it auto-increments by one.
i am using a gridview in my web page,i used to bind the database records to the gridview..my columns are name, empid, company name,pl leave,sl leave, total leave taken here total leave taken is not a database fields,in the page i want to fill the records once loaded pl leave and sl leave is added and display in the total leave taken column..it working properly when all pl ans sl columns fill with numbers,if some pl and sl leave having blank values.it showing an error like input sting was not in correct format..this is my code
I've got a details view control on a page. One of the columns, from the database table, is a bit field. It is not nullable, and that's the way it has to be. Also, in most cases, when inserting data, it will be true (1) be default. I've found in testing, when inserting data, that it was false, for some reason. So, I changed the column to a template field and went to the InsertItemTemplate for that column, and changed the checkbox Checked property to True, instead of the default False. However, it has really screwed up the page because now it won't save anything at all! When I try saving something using the details view, it does show the checkbox as being checked, but man, once I try saving it I get an error message back from the database saying that the column doesn't allow for nulls.
Huh??? How in heck can the column on the page have a value (it is checked), but when it goes to save something it fails? Furthermore, before I converted this field to a template field, it worked perfectly. I tested several other insertions, and they all worked. But when I converted it to a template field, it stopped working? What's that about? I even tried setting the default value for the Checked property of the checkbox back to False, but that still doesn't work, it still wants to pass in a null. What's going on here? Why is it that converting a field to a template field, which was working perfectly fine before I made the convension, stop it from working at all?
I need to pass some values around using session state. My approach is to first check if my session variable is null and if it is not, then proceed with my C# logic. Is that correct? Will my Session variable ever contain garbage in it, like a corrupted string? Or will I be guaranteed that it is null if not explicitly set. if(Session["MyVariable"]!=null { // Do some logic }
I am trying to bind datetimes from a database to a Calendar in a TemplateField in a GridView using C# (following the tutorial at [URL]). The datetime is nullable in the database and this apparently kills the Calendar (one entry is null). How do you modify the SelectedDate and VisibleDate to check for null values? Do you have to create a custom binding? If so, how?
I have a remarks column which allows null values.. When i try to load a selected row from gridview
Which has nothing in remarks..I get displayed in the textbox where i need to load the remarks.. I do not want to be displayed.. If nothing is there in that remarks column textbox should be blank.. How do i do this?
I am having real trouble at the moment trying to input NULL values into a field. what I want is, using VB, the ability to insert into parameters NULL values.
I have some fields in my db that have a value of "NULL". These are displayed in the Data controls as "NULL". When I try to commit an update the Regex validator is catching this and not allowing the update because it doesn't match the pattern of the regex.
I've thought of one way of solving this, which is to add the value "NULL" to the pattern for the regex. I'm curious though if there is a better way to solve this issue.
I tried to convert the (null) values with 0 (zeros) output in dynamic PIVOT function but have no sucess. Itried with below code but getting below error,
'SNULL' is not a recognized built-in function name.
DECLARE @columns NVARCHAR(MAX) DECLARE @sql NVARCHAR(MAX); SET @columns = N''; SELECT @Scolumns = ISNULL(@Scolumns + ',','')+ 'ISNULL(' + QUOTENAME(Name) + ', 0) AS '+ QUOTENAME(Name)--HERE AM GETTING ABOVE ERROR FROM ( SELECT Name FROM #Temp
have a form where I insert record via DetailView control. I have some string fields. For each string field (nvarchar in sql) I have defined the Default Value in the SQL SERVER (2008) as ''. Also I have added to each InsertParameter of the DetailsView a DefaultValue="".Yet still, if the user enters no value for one of the string fields, NULL is inserted into the table.
This is an ASP.NET 3.5 web app written in C# using VS2008 and connecting to an MS SQL backend. It is using ad hoc queries in a strongly typed dataset to pull from the database. This query (shortened for clarity) is designed to allow optional input of parameters (a requirement) or pull all records if no parameters are input. It works normally in SQL Server Management Studio with the addition of Declare and Set statements and it works normally in the TableAdapter's Query Builder:
[Code]....
The markup contains this ObjectDataSource, which is tied to the TableAdapter with the above query:

The problem I'm having is in passing null values to the ODS to feed to the query. Tying the ODS parameters directly to the dropdownlists and textboxes didn't work. Got an error message that there was a mismatched data type. Tried several combinations of code to feed the right values to the ODS parameters but couldn't find one that worked. Is the problem in the query or am I setting up the code-behind wrong? Here's the code:
Whenever you turn off the visibility of a column in Gridview, on Edit, the value becomes null because its never bound. The only way I know of stopping this behavoir is to put it in the DataKeyName list. Is there any other way to prevent this? I have quite a few columns that will not be displayed in this "release" but I want there for future extensibility. Also, in some cases these values will be used for calculations but the user should not see them. Is there no toggle property for "non-visible" items to remain "unchanged" or something of the sort?
the problem arise when this datacolumn in my database have a null value, it throws an error ....how can I get this to work so that DataBinder.Eval can take a null value?
m using a listview and an object data source in my application, with optimistic concurrency control.i have only 2 columns in the listview: category_ID and category_name;when i try to delete an item, an error message is generated saying that one of the old values populated by the list view is null, i performed debugging, and found that the category_ID old value is populated correctly, while the category_name old value is populated as nulli can't find a problem in the code, i executed the delete command in the query builder directly and it worked fine,
