DataSource Controls :: Database Does Not Get Smaller Size?

Jan 15, 2010

I have a database that I just migrated data to. It has grown to 769MB from 13MB when I shrink it, it does not get any smaller. I don't think the amount of data should have made it grow that much. Could I be doing something wrong?

VS 2008 - Image Format To Save With Smaller File Size After Uploading With Website?

Aug 11, 2011

I have written a website and let the user upload their photo. It also resizes the picture to 400 x 400 and crops automatically to the center part of the picture. All of this works good but each file is about 355K each for JPG and PNG file formats. I just tried GIF and it is 49K but the picture is grainy when saved this way. Is there any way I can get the picture to a smaller file size with keeping it at 400 x 400? I really thought PNG would be the way to go and was surprised by it being the same as jpg. I don't want to lower the quality either for JPG files.

DataSource Controls :: How To See The Size Of The Individual Tables

May 13, 2010

From using the command: EXEC sp_spaceused on a SQL 2008 database,

the DB has a size of 642.56 MB, unallocated space 148.77 MB.

I can also see the size of the individual tables from the same command:

Reserved: 103656 KB
Data: 98264 KB
Index_size: 2656 KB
Unused: 2736 KB

What I don't quite get is why the total database size is 642.56 MB when the size of the individual tables is so much smaller. We pay for the total amount, in chunks of 500 MB. I was trying to see which tables where causing the DB to be so big, but to me, it looks like it is not the size of the tables but something else.

What should I look at to figure out why we are taking up so much space? Am I not understanding how this works?

AJAX :: The Controls Inside TabContainer Size, Font Size And Location Changing After Page Refresh?

Dec 19, 2010

I am using TabContainer with some controls on each tab (asp: labels, text boxes). When redirecting to the page that contains the TabContainer, the tabs and their content loads as expected, but when there is a postback, and the page refreshes, the TabContainer UI changes - the font size of the labels gets bigger, the text boxes become bigger and their location changes a bit (not aligned as before), and the tab header is partially hidden. I am using IE7.

I dont know if this is relevant but in some of the text boxes i use edit mask extender as well for date. Also, I have used a table inside the TabContainer for layouting the controls.

Can The Absolute Expiry For A Cache With CacheUpdateCallback Be Smaller Than 20 Seconds

Jan 20, 2010

I have the a test harness detailed below. This has two labels on the page that are set within the page_load which is hit every second due to the updatepanel and timer.

Label1 is set to a datetime value that is stored in the Cache. Label2 is set to the current datetime.

The cache is set with an absolute expiry of 5 seconds from now and there is an update callback on the cache to re-set the datetime and make it valid for another 5 seconds.

The problem I have is that I'm seeing the cache update every 20 seconds, not every 5 seconds like I would expect. If I set the time to 30 seconds then it updates every 40.

This appears to indicate that the cache will only expire every 20 seconds. Does anyone know of a way of reducing this time? If I just insert into the cache with an expiry of 5 seconds and no Callback then it works as I would expect and is removed every 5 seconds.

AJAX :: Can't Make Editor's Height Smaller Than 200px

Mar 19, 2010

Ive downloaded AspNetAjaxLibraryBeta0911 and have added both System.Web.Ajax.dll and AjaxControlToolkit.dll from the webforms/debug folder to my [ASP.NET web app] project. I have also added the latter dll to my toolbox. Ive dragged a ToolkitScriptManager onto my aspx page too, and it has created these two reference:

<%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="asp" %>
<%@ Register Assembly="System.Web.Ajax" Namespace="System.Web.UI" TagPrefix="asp" %>

Is that right so far? Now I want to have a custom HTMLEditor, so I created a new folder "App_Code" and created a class calles CustomEditor.cs which has this content:

using AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor;
namespace TestProj.App_Code
{
public class CustomEditor : Editor
{
protected override void FillTopToolbar()
{
TopToolbar.Buttons.Add(new AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.ToolbarButton.Bold());
TopToolbar.Buttons.Add(new AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.ToolbarButton.Italic());
TopToolbar.Buttons.Add(new AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.ToolbarButton.Underline());
}
}

and then I added this to the aspx page:

<%@ Register namespace="TestProj.App_Code" tagprefix="custom" %>
and
<custom:CustomEditor ID="editorMsg" runat="server" />

Firstly, it works. But I have a few problems.

1) In CustomEditor.cs there is no intellisense, and pressing Ctrl + Space bring up no things like "TopToolbar" etc.

2) In the aspx page's designer code I had to add this manually: protected global::AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor.Editor editorMsg; else it wouldnt come up in my code behind. Why isnt it automatically doing that? And is that correct?

3) No matter what I do I cannot make the editor's height smaller than 200px. I set it both inline and in code behind but it still overflows its container and goes to 200. I can however make it more than 200 and also width is fine. Heres a screenshot: [URL]

DataSource Controls :: Tried To Update My Current Database With The Triggers To Input The Schema Into The Already Existing Database Can't Get That To Work?

Jan 22, 2010

Creating a system with web front end and SQL backend (microsoft obviously). I have tried using the asp.netsqlprovider but i can;t as i am only allowed one database on the server, so i then tried to update my current database with the triggers to input the schema into the already existing database.Next step i create my own table with two simple fields of username and password and try and authenticate that way, i can't get that to work either.

I ahve limited permissions on the network as i am a University Student. I really don't know what to do. Never had to create a log on system before and i thought it would be far simpler than this. I ahve used Microsoft's sqlprovider schema before and it worked fine. I have also authenticated via IIS and AD too before. I can't do any of those two in this instance it seems.I need an alternative for logging in users, if needs be in can be crude. I also still need to have some kind of two different views too for logged in users and not logged in users, but that can change if needs must.Don't let me down people, haha. Think this posts in the correct place, i could not find another one i thought could be more relevant.

DataSource Controls :: Database Publishing Wizard With Existing Database?

May 10, 2010

I have a development database and one in production. There are two different sets of data in each database. On my dev system, I have mostly dummy data that I test with and in production is the real data for my web application. I recently added a new feature to the app that required a new table, and a new field for a foreign key in an existing table. I now need to upload that new structure to the production database without overwriting the live data with my test data.

If I run the Database Publishing Wizard, and choose "Schema Only" will it import the new structure and leave the existing data alone, or will it drop the records in my production database tables?
