View 6 RepliesI attempted to change a table columns data type and in the process caused a lot of issues. I had a date column in one of my tables and stupidly changed it from varchar to date. When I tried to run queries on it I keep getting the 'cant find column 3 error'. Now that tables structure is :
[Code]...
So column 4 is actually the date column. All other queries work for this table. I then tried to change it back and then copied all data to a new table and now I am using the new table and converting the dates as needed but I am still getting the error.
SELECT * FROM postlinks WHERE postlinks.date >= CONVERT(datetime,CONVERT(varchar(10),GetDate(),112))
I have a variable in the database "Amount". Data type is a float, but if I write 10.00, save 10 This is not good.
I want to save the database 10,00, and not 10.
where can i find the tableadapeter to add data to my database table? and is that the best way or there a easier way... i have a csv file that i would like to add to my data table but i don't know how?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to store data from an XML file to a table in my database, but I keep getting the same error.
This is my code from the cs file:
[Code]....
And this is my error:
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Areas'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Areas'.
The statement has been terminated.
In my XML file I have both existing rows and new rows for the database table. I'm guessing I have to do something to sort out the the rows that are not already in the database, but so far I have been unsuccessful to figure this out.
Im Inserting data into database table with the help of datasets but its not inserting to table and even its not showing errors.

I need to display a single field from an sqlserver table, do I need to use sqlDataSource ect. or is there a simpler way (like msaccess's LookUp) for single values.
I added a new table to my type dataset. When the code tries to execute the new row on that table I get the error message.
(if you can't see the error. "MissingMethodException was caught" "Method not found: 'MyTableDataTable MyNamespace.get_SSCase().")
I've tried the wizard and also click and drag the table from solution explorer to the xsd file. The other tables work, just this one table won't work. What should I check?
I have a table in my aspnet database. I added a bottom row "Not Selected", if the user doesn't select from a databound drop down list. This row is at the bottom, because I just added it to the table data. Is there any way to move this one row to the top of the table manually? There is not "cut" and "paste" when I select the whole row.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to populate a drop down of gender inside gridview but on edit i never update the value any idea wht i am doing wrong?

View 4 RepliesI have been looking for a way to convert C# datatype into database specific type of MS SQL. For example when I do [Code]....
I would get System.GUID or something like that but what I want is UniqueIdentifier instead of System.GUID. In most cases, I would also want the length of the type like varchar(1000) and stuff like that. Is there anyway I could convert or get similiar result ?
I have been in the process of updating my code with security methods, and I've been learning this from [URL] (or "Security Guidelines: ASP.NET 2.0"). In the middle of the page under "When Constructing SQL Queries, Use Type Safe SQL Parameters" it says "Use type safe parameters when constructing SQL queries to avoid possible SQL injection attacks that can occur with unfiltered input". Now, what they suggested was to use code like:
"DataSet userDataset = new DataSet();
SqlDataAdapter myCommand = new SqlDataAdapter(LoginStoredProcedure", connection);
myCommand.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
myCommand.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add("@au_id", SqlDbType.VarChar, 11);........"
But, I was already using code like:
"var dataSource = (SqlDataSource)form1.FindControl("sqlDataSource5") ;
dataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("someVal", val);"
So now, to use type safe parameters, I decided to include it like:
"var dataSource = (SqlDataSource)form1.FindControl("sqlDataSource5") ;
dataSource.UpdateParameters.Add("@someVal", DbType.Int16, val);
dataSource.UpdateParameters["@someVal"].Size = 1;"
So, that would be how I would modify my current code base to use type safe parameters in sql updating/inserting.
Getting to my actual question, as it was said "Use type safe parameters when constructing SQL queries to avoid possible SQL injection attacks that can occur with unfiltered input". First off, this suggests that this should apply to unfiltered input. Also, in their example they only did this for an ID.
So, what I'd like to know, when it comes to "unfiltered input", does this mean as long as the input is unfiltered I must use type safe parameters, or even filtered input shall have this (just to be sure), like, input that has been ran through a regularexpression check? Shall I do this for all values I insert/update into the database, or just IDs and important things?
The way I see it right now is that it would be a good precaution to just do type safe checks on everything (literally) that updates/inserts into the database just to be extra safe. But, I really am unsure if this is really the best idea, because if I did, would this possibly cause overprocessing of information? Can this cause too much strain on server resources? If my fears serve true, what would be a good suggestion of how I could implement this properly without having to worry about what I said?
how do I get the Row count from a table CustomerDatabaseTables in the Database.What I want to do is if the Row Count is greater than 5 then I want to disable a buttonCREATE NEW USER. But I am not able to figure out a way for doing it.Can anyone post the code for the same in VB.
View 2 RepliesI need to somehow test if a table exists in a database. If it does not then I need to create the table. How can I test for existence of a table using SQL? It seems like some type of SQL logic is needed?
View 2 RepliesI have a table with several columns i created,

I need to select a field value from a database table. If the value read is '1' then I need a 'Y' to display as output in the select statement. I haven't figured out how to do this yet and queries I tried that did not work.
select IsIata from Table_1 CASE WHEN (IsIata = '1') THEN 'Y'
select IsIata CASE WHEN (IsIata = '1') THEN 'Y' from Table_1
I get an error when I try to update a row in an SQL database table with a string of fewer characters than were previously stored. I attempted to correct this problem by using the "PadRight" function in my C# webpage event handler to fill in the remaining characters with spaces, but I don't seem to be able to make that work. So, what do I do when I want to store fewer characters in a table row that has more characters previously stored in it?

My code is not updating the sql database. I am definately passing the correct information in to this function, and it runs without errors. If I exec the procedure with the passed in data, it works great. Can someone tell me what is missing?
