DataSource Controls :: How To Change A Table Column Data Type
Jan 21, 2010
I attempted to change a table columns data type and in the process caused a lot of issues. I had a date column in one of my tables and stupidly changed it from varchar to date. When I tried to run queries on it I keep getting the 'cant find column 3 error'. Now that tables structure is :
[Code]...
So column 4 is actually the date column. All other queries work for this table. I then tried to change it back and then copied all data to a new table and now I am using the new table and converting the dates as needed but I am still getting the error.
SELECT * FROM postlinks WHERE postlinks.date >= CONVERT(datetime,CONVERT(varchar(10),GetDate(),112))
I want to import a spreadsheet into SQL. The import/export wizard forces Column A to be a double. In Excel, the column is formatted as text. When I try to convert from double to text/varchar/nvarchar, the import process fails. Why can't I convert a number to text in SQL?
How do I select a column with the latest "datetime" data type, in Visual Web Developer 2008, ASP.NET 3.5 ?
In the config data source WHERE option my options are greater than cookie, control, etc... but I would like to select where the datetime is the latest in the table.
I have defined some binary bit columns in an SQL database table to indicate yes/no conditions, but I don't know how to set or reset them. I tried to use "profile.Volunteer = 0;" C# code in an event handler to reset a voluntary state for the Profile table of members, but what I got back was an error message that said, "Constant value '0' cannot be converted to a bool'. So, if a '0' cannot be used to reset a boolean value, what can be used?
I'm currectly tryin to access a specific value in my database in a specific column. I'm tryin to use the primary key of the table to access the actual value in the row of that ID.
The current code:
[Code]....
Just iterates through the table and looking for any row with the boolean 'checkin' value is True, then it takes the 'id' value of that row and stores it into an array. Is there a way that I can access a another entry, and only that entry, in the table with the 'id' stored in the array?
Like if my data base contained and int, primarykey, `id` value, a boolean, `checkedin` value, and a `time` value, is there a way to access, lets say, the row with `id` equalling 3 and and the checkIn value from that row?
I have tried to query a table with an xml column by using XQuery and I can't get the Select to work.
All my knowledge/understanding of the subject comes from this MSDN article:
[URL]
so I am probably overlooking something minor:
I tried this query Select col1, Phone.Query('element CellPhone {I am not sure about what goes here} I tried {data('Phone/cellPhone} from aTable Where Phone.Exist('/Phone/cellPhone/text()[contains.,"412-8977"]') = 1 This syntax is definitely not fun.
This is SQL Server 2008 database. I have a tables which has a XML datatype column, Is XML Document = true, and ScemaCollection = InternalAttributeCollection. This is my schema
[Code]....
This is my table
[Code]....
I inserted this:
[Code]....
Now, the xml column is nullable and is currently is null for the John Doe record. I tried this update:
[Code]....
I get this error: "XML Validation: Declaration not found for element 'InternalAttributes'. Location: /*:InternalAttributes[1]"
Running both statements above in the query analyzer it WILL return me different results. Why? Someone mentioned that it looks like I don't have correct data type specified for SQLParameter in .Net application. I was asked to create something like:
I read a CSV file into a DataTable. The DataTable in the first image shows each column and type. The types are exactly what they are supposed to be and the data loaded all the rows it was supposed to load. From the second screen shot you can see the database table. SqlBulkCopy is supposed to map column names to database columns by default.According to that logic each column matches up exactly to the database and the column types also match. However, when I run the command it errors on the first row with:
"The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type decimal of the specified target column."
Here is the StackTrace:
"at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.ConvertValue(Object value, _SqlMetaData metadata) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteToServerInternal() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteRowSourceToServer(Int32 columnCount) at
[code]...
Anyone have any ideas why this will not import correctly?
I want to copy data from a table[tblExcel][No.of columns:2] to another table[ev_event] which has 5 columns, 2 columns from the another table, 3 columns from user defined value
However has anyone ever seen a situation where, when you try to access the value of a column in a DataRow, you get the error "Column... does not belong to table.." when, in fact, it does?
The column name in question is called "ByWeight". I am wondering if either that, or maybe one of my other column names, is a reserved keyword and that's causing/masking this error.
If I look in the locals window and expand the DataRow, one of my columns is DBNull - by that I don't mean that the column value is DBNull, I mean the actual column itself is DBNull so it doesn't expand. I think there's a clue there.
I have a gridview which is binded to a Sqldatasource. I would like to replace a column data field value to 'Not Applicable' if that column has got a value of 2 in database.
Scenario: If you create a table with a column of type nvarchar, populate it with some content and try to modify it using the WebMatrix editor, from nvarchar to ntext, it does not display any error message or warning that this is not possible. It silently saves and reverts the change, back to nvarchar. Wasted some hours on this issue as I thought my column was ntext, but in fact was still nvarchar.
Expected behavior: It should change to ntext, or if SQL CE doesn't support that, it should notify the user that no change was applied.
I have this error "The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type datetime of the specified target column." when I used sqlbulkcopy to do the transaction
I need to display a single field from an sqlserver table, do I need to use sqlDataSource ect. or is there a simpler way (like msaccess's LookUp) for single values.
I added a new table to my type dataset. When the code tries to execute the new row on that table I get the error message.
(if you can't see the error. "MissingMethodException was caught" "Method not found: 'MyTableDataTable MyNamespace.get_SSCase().")
I've tried the wizard and also click and drag the table from solution explorer to the xsd file. The other tables work, just this one table won't work. What should I check?
I am able to store the current time of day in a column defined as time with the C# code as:notestable.NoteTime = DateTime.Now.TimeOfDay;The hour, minutes, seconds, and even millionth of a second is stored. But now, I need to retrieve the time and convert it into a string. I tried to use DateTime statements to accomplish this as with:
Regarding the 'nt' variable, I got an error message that said: Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.TimeSpan?' to 'System.DateTime'.Regarding the 'Hour' designation, I changed the definition of 'nt' to 'var' and got an error message that said: System.Nullible<System.TimeSpan>' does not contain a definition for 'Hour' and no extension method could be found. So, how do I access the time from a table and convert it into a string for display in a TextBox?
