I've looked all over for this answer and had to resort to several resources. I wanted to post this here because it was so hard for me to find a simple example. If it exist other places then please excuse my post and put references to it on a reply.
So, How do I return the Primary Key Identity when I click the control with the 'Insert' command on a FormView? (With very least minimal code) Help me if there's a quicker way.
Protected Sub sqlSource_Inserted()
Dim cmd as System.Data.Common.DbCommand = e.command
Dim strID as String
sqlSource.InsertParameters("ID").DefaultValue = cmd.Parameters("@ID").Value.ToString()
strID = sqlSource.InsertParameters("ID").DefaultValue.ToString()
lblResults.Text = strID
End Sub
Im trying to get the ID out of the record that i'm inserting using scope_identity. I've add the following line of code to the Insert statements in the sqldatasource - SET @insID = Scope_Identity() I've add the following line to the Insert parameter list
I now want to insert a number records into the database using the following:
Dim insID As Object = e.Command.Parameters("@insID").Value ' gets out latest ID Dim ordernumber As String = "CX" & insID.ToString & DateTime.Now.DayOfYear.ToString sqlOrders.InsertParameters("orderNumber").DefaultValue = ordernumber sqlOrders.InsertParameters("orderDate").DefaultValue = DateTime.Now sqlOrders.InsertParameters("customerID").DefaultValue = userID sqlOrders.InsertParameters("productID").DefaultValue = productID sqlOrders.InsertParameters("totalPrice").DefaultValue = "0.00" sqlOrders.InsertParameters("status").DefaultValue = "Paid"
I currently have this code in the SQLDataSource_Inserting sub but the first line only works once the record is inserted. How can i get the ID out as im inserting the parameters?
I'm trying to insert data into two tables that are related within a store procedure. After the first insert I want to get the id of the inserted row to use as a parameter during the insertion of data in the other table. I'm sure this is a common task, and I have looked into things like scope_identity(), @@identity and ident_current. However I'm not sure exactly how to use the id as a parameter.My attempt now looks like:
DECLARE @RETURN_VALUE INSERT INTO Table1(test_name) VALUES ('asdf') @RETURN_VALUE = SCOPE_IDENTITY() INSERT INTO Table2(test_name) VALUES(@RETURN_VALUE)
Iam inserting ,updating in one DBfunction .i want to retrieve identityvalue when in insert.for that am adding select SCOPE_IDENTITY() in insert statement.how i can i get this value??
public int funAddEdit_rtblIncidentTypesDB(clsCM_Inc_IncidentTypesData objData, int actiontype) { string qry = ""; if (actiontype == 1) qry = "INSERT INTO _rtblIncidentType (cDescription,iEscGroupID,bAllowOverride,bRequireContract,iIncidentTypeGroupID,iWorkflowID,bAllowOverrideIncidentType,bPOIncidentType,cDefaultOutline) VALUES ('" + objData.cDescription + "'," + objData.iEscGroupID + ",'" + objData.bAllowOverride + "','" + objData.bRequireContract + "'," + objData.iIncidentTypeGroupID + "," + objData.iWorkflowID + ",'" + objData.bAllowOverrideIncidentType + "','" + objData.bPOIncidentType + "','" + objData.cDefaultOutline + "'); select SCOPE_IDENTITY() "; else if (actiontype == 2) qry = "UPDATE _rtblIncidentType SET cDescription='" + objData.cDescription + "' WHERE idIncidentType=" + objData.idIncidentType; int result = SqlHelper.ExecuteNonQuery(clsHelper.ConnectionString.ToString(), CommandType.Text, qry); return result; }
if i exceute the above query individually,it returns iddentity value,,bt unable to retireve the value in codebehind.
I'm trying to create multi insert query in single stored procedure along with scope_identity variable. while execute the aspx page getting error "Procedure 'sp_seller_ins' expects parameter'@new1', which was not supplied." I have created stored procedure:

I have an orders table with a column names orderID. What I want to do is insert a new record and get the value from the new orderID column. The orderID is my Primary key. The Insert SQL I have now is -
INSERT INTO orders (creditAutorizarionNumber, OrderName, OrderPersonPhone, OrderPersonEmail) VALUES (@creditAutorizarionNumber,@OrderName,@OrderPersonPhone,@OrderPersonEmail)
How do I write the query to get the newly entered orderID ?
I am trying to pass in as an insert parameter for SQLds2 the scope_identity of the insert of SQLds1.
Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Error executing 'InsertCommand' in SqlDataSource 'SqlDataSource1'. Ensure the command accepts the following parameters: @Name1, @NewId
Im going to attempt to explain this as short as possible.I have a student registration page.There are two ways you can add a new student:1)'Add New Student' button in the emptydata template field of a detailsview )When the detailsview is actually populated just click the 'insert' linkProblem is I need two cancels buttons that do different things depending on which scenario above is enacted. I tried to state: When "Add New Button" is clicked show one cancel button and not show the other.I have both cancel buttons showing as of now, and they are both setup to do the different things that I want them to do just cant get them to be visible or not visible depending on which button is clicked.
I am using a CustomValidator to compare two textbox control values in the form view. These values are not required but must be compared if a valuue is entered. The same two controls are defined in both Edit Item Template and Insert Item Template. The formview default mode is Edit.
The javascipt for the custom validator works when in Edit mode. However, when the form view is Insert, the javascript throws an error of NullReferenceException. how I can adjust my code so that the client-side javascript works for both Edit and Insert mode?
The form view is in a content page. The script is in the Head content placeholder
<script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function cvSecondaryEmail_Validate(source, args) {
I want to know if it's possible to return the identity value after an insert working with just the insertCommand and the insert parameters - something like this (but this isn't working):
Code: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlCustomerInformation" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:SloanLEDLightingSystemsQuoteToolConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT quoteCustomerInformationId,contactname FROM QuoteCustomerInformation order by quoteCustomerInformationId"
[Code] ....
Not sure what's wrong with my code. Should I be doing this in the code behind? I'm also confused as to how I would then retrieve the identity value in the code behind - on iteminserted.
I've built a form for entering some data into a table in my database, now I want to INSERT that data, and get back the ID (which is an autonumber) of the record that has just been added. I've got the INSERT part working just fine, and I've tacked "SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY();" onto the end of that, but now I need to retrieve the returned number. At the moment all of this is done with an SqlDataSource (with the "INSERT" statement being put together and fired by some C# in the codebehind file, which takes data from a form on the page). Is there a quick way to grab that number and put it in a variable?
I have created a stored procedure that reset my tables' identity value. The store procedure works fine when I didrectly run it in my ms sql server 2008. It reset my table Identity value However, when I call it from my function reset, it returns -1, and does not reset my table identitity value. The function to restet my identity value is:
[Code]....
My stored procedure is
[Code]....
To call the the function:
Dim result As Integer = util.resetTableIdentity("myTable", "id", 60) util.print(result)
I got result is -1, and it does ot reset my table identity. Why? How to resove it?
I have textbox for searching a Names in My database. I return the information from the Select Statement in GridView, but i want to know the number of affected rows. How to do that?
I'm having trouble linking a form view I have on a web page with a drop down list on the same page. Basically, what I need to happen is whenever a new selection is chosen from the drop down list, the details in the form view should also change to represent that selection's criteria.
I have my drop down list connected to SQLDataSource1 and my form view to SQLDataSource2, and these are populating as expected, it's just the problem lies when changing the selection in the drop down list - the form view doesn't follow what is selected.
does anything have to be added in the properties options of either the data source controls or the form view? For example, in the "Events" section, there is a "DataBinding" and "DataBound" selection item that can be used - should anything be entered in this to connect the two?
PS - Here is the code I have in the back end of the page:
I have 2 tables. Table_A has one to many relationship with Table_B.
For example. Table_A has an ApplicantKey and in Table_B I am storing (Resume_name and CoverLetter_name for the Applicant). Joined by ApplicantKey
Now when I join them and execute the query obviously it returns me two rows. But what I want is that it should return only one row with Columns like Resume_name, CoverLetter_Name
accessing the return value of the SQLDataReader. My code is below. Actually the variable that I assigned my SQLDatareader object to is say HasRows property=true. But I am having trouble accessing the return value. And I get the error when I use the following code .Text =SQLDataReader("Contact Name").ToString I get the following error message: Invalid attempt to read when no data is present.
con = New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("Connect").ConnectionString) Dim getDirectorsCMD As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("dbo.spGetDirector", con) getDirectorsCMD.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure Dim myParm As SqlParameter = getDirectorsCMD.Parameters.Add("@BuildingTID", SqlDbType.Int, 15) myParm.Value = ddlBuilding.SelectedValue [code]...
I followed this BRILLIANT article and found out how to make a data layer, i just need the insert method in this code to return the ID of the record inserted.
For example, when the user captures the details, the save button is clicked, i will want to display in a label "Your Reference Number is "
try and have look at the article so you will understand how the code is, so it will not be hard to edit my code.
I want to select dates that also fallin the range. Heres the scenario: I have an event from 01/20/2010 TO 01/25/2010. So right now it would only return a date of 01/20/2010. How could I return 01/20/2010, 01/21/2010 , 01/22/2010, 01/23/2010, 01/24/2010, 01/25/2010? Mind you only a start and end date are in the database.
I have an autoincrement ID on some table.I need to know what is the ID of the new row when I add the object using InsertOnSubmit, but this method returns void.What is the common way of doing this.
I have a gridview on a page and based on the row selected I need to fill out a form view (dynamic data enabled) from a linqdatasource. On gridview_sleectedindexchanged I create the linqdatasource and set it as the datasource for the formview. It displays nicely but clicking update returns a "Could not determine a MetaTable" error for the datasource mapped.
THe goal is to create a single page that allows users to select a row then get the appropriate data, create an updateable formview so further edits can be done. Do not want to scaffold.
