DataSource Controls :: How To Hyphens In Field Data
Apr 13, 2010
Once again, I find myself stuck!
I am attempting to compare one of ASP.NET's membership userID's with the current userID in an SQL query, however because of the "hyphens -" in the uniqueidentifier field type of userID, i am unable to compare the ids. is there a way around this? (in my example, family_id from tblFamily is the userID that has type uniqueidentifier). my code as it stands is:
Dim UserID As String = New String(Membership.GetUser(User.Identity.Name).ProviderUserKey.ToString())
Response.Write(UserID)
Dim strConn As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ApplicationServices").ConnectionString
Dim SQLI As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("SELECT family_name FROM tblFamily WHERE [family_id] IS " & UserID & "")
Dim sqlCon As New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(strConn)
sqlCon.Open()
SQLI.Connection = sqlCon
Dim RSI As Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader = SQLI.ExecuteReader()
RSI.Read()
Dim FamilyName As String = "0"
While RSI.Read
FamilyName = Convert.ToString(RSI("family_name"))
End While
Response.Write(FamilyName)
RSI.Close()
sqlCon.Close()
I have a 20 to 30 fields on a form. Most of them are optional. However, the users can fill out what they want. If a user dosen't fill in a field when data is sent to the database it's sent as blank, instead of NULL. Is there a way I can generically say "for all textboxes if Equals("") then DBNull.Value". Without going through each and every textbox?
i have a datareader who read from data field from sql server, this field is datetime format now, when this field is null it returns 01/01/1900!! how can i manage it without if or some check, is there a property in datareader or sqlserver properties who i can return null value from datetime field?
From my Employees table of the Northwind database, how do I delete a row? I have a row with a LastName field = WWWW How to write the string sql?
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(connectionString); string sql = "DELETE FROM Employees WHERE LastName =" + WWWW; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql, con);
I have an Output clause in a SQL statement and I use getutcdate() for a record. Does UTC record seconds? If so, how do I display it? What data type should I use for the UTC field?
how one would retrive a value stored among several values in a single database field?
For example, the MS Customize CreateUserWizard walkthrough [URL] adds the ability to save the users preference for subscribing to a newsletter and allowing their info to be shared as 1 value in the comment column of the membership database. The result ofaspnet_Membership.Comment is Subscribe=TRUE&ShareInfo=FALSE.
My question is if Subscribe=TRUE&ShareInfo=FALSE is in one field of the database, how would you retrieve just the Subscribe=TRUE value from the field and use it to send a newsletter to the proper users while ignoring the ShareInfo=FALSE value?
I am trying to explode some data from an ntext field into a cvs for import, here is what i have so far,
DECLARE @XML as XML DECLARE @hDoc as INT SET @XML = (SELECT billaddress FROM order WHERE id=7 ) exec sp_xml_prepairedocument @hDoc OUTPUT, @XML SELECT firstname FROM OPENXML (@hDoc, '//') WITH (type text './type/@text', FirstName text './FirstName/@text') exec sp_xml_removedocument @hDoc OUTPUT
here is the errors:

Could not find stored procedure 'sp_xml_prepairedocument'.
Msg 8179, Level 16, State 5, Line 6

I have a situation where I have a file with each Account Record contains Monthly Expense Total Fields and Monthly Budget Fields for 2009, 2008 and 2007. I'm working with 72 fields (36 Expense and 36 Budget).
Need to create New Year Proceure that will shift data from 2008 to 2007, 2009 to 2008 and move Zeros to 2009 for both Expenses and Budgets.
I can do this using Parameters and Update SQL but I am under the impression that I must specificaly name each field in defining Parameters and SQL Update Command.
Since all fields are sequential withing a record, is there a way that I can use a For/Next loop to index my way through the fields moving data from one year to another?
When using DataReader I'm able to use reader.item(index) to access data record fields.
How do I bound a Label to a datasource and its field?I got set up the datasource to a gridview, but don't know how to bind a label to the same datasource.
I have a form that contains a text box called "MyDate" in which the user enters a date. I have a table that contains records of which one of the fields in the record is a date field named "DateAvailable" (type is "datetime"). I want to compare the data in the text box to the "DateAvailable" field in record. How do I define my text box as a "datetime" field.
I have a dataview on a page. I am binding a list of Items, and each item has a Person object. So I get this exception "field not found in selected datasource" when I try to bind to any property on the person object.
[Code]....
It appears that the dataview is having problems with the person object because it will display all the properties for the Item correctly.
why I get a not found on the boundfield and not on the eval?
I have a datatable for which i'm defining a dataadapter. I'm specifying an updatecommand with sqlparameters for the dataadapter I set the updatecommand's parameters using the following overload:
[Code]....
The length 16 is used because this is the length of the field according to sql (the image datafield is a pointer of size 16) I noticed .Net is actually truncating the string because of the length i'm setting. An image of size 3kb will properly upload if we set the length field to be greater than 3kb The question I have is what is the proper value (or strategy) to use in order to set for the length field so that ALL images will properly update to the database, with each using the appropriate size.
I guess i could theoretically set the length to be maxint, but this seems sloppy. Looking at sqlparameter documentation i didnt see an 'unlimited' or 'default' length i could set, which would allow each update statement called to use the appropriate size for the data length for that row.
I have a simple sql server table with around 20 fields in it. I have created an asp.net page which shows the ecords in a gridview & then the selected record in a formview. There may be cases of multiple users editing the same record so i wanted to use the conflict detection in a sqlDataSource to inform users of the conflict. I managed to get this working where i replicated all 20 fields to create the equivalent original_XXX parameter.
BUT i was wondering whether it is possible to show all 20 fields but only use 1 (the date modified field) to check for data conflicts? I have tried to implement this in the following way:
[Code]....
But i've had no luck in getting it working. The conflict detection simply overwrites the changes instead of not allowing the changes and showing the specified error msg (in the onUpdated event). The examples and tutorials i've seen all seem to indicate that each field would need to be compared BUT why can't i simply compare a datetime field which records the last time a record has been updated? Surely, there has to be a better way of resolving the data conflicts than comparing every single field with it's original value?
[ActionName("about-us")] public ActionResult EditDetails(int id) { // your code }
The above works for actions but I would like to be able to do the same (or similar) for controllers, ie have a hyphen in the URL name too. Is there any easy way to achieve this (I tried the ActionName attribute but no luck)
I have a web page that has a repeater bound to a data source. I beed to change a label inside the repeater based on the data that is in each repeater item. For instance, for the first item it might be one thing, and for the next item the label may be something else. I am currently doing some processing in the prerender event, but I don't know if I can or how to access the data source fields there. Where and how do I get access to the data in each item so I can change the label text?
Using a RegularExpressionValidator, I want my textbox to accept a max of 20 chars, and only English characters A-Z (upper and lowercase), 0-9, hyphens (-), underscores (_), and spaces. That's it.
Now that I think about it, since this text will be used by a proprietary software to create a file of the same name, and will also be included in the querystring when the page is redirected (so that I can find the file so the user can download it), I'm not sure if I should keep it safe and not accept spaces.
I am using a GridView Control to display multiple fileds with 0's and 1's.
I am using template fields where CheckBoxes are used.
Where exactly and how do I apply the Logic to get a checked CheckBox when field Value=1 and unchecked CheckBox when field Value=2 .Also some times to be able to write a YES where fieldValue=1 or NO where filedValue=0
I have 2 fields in my gridview one called ScriptType the other BagNo, when a user click the edit button, I would like the BagNo filed to be disabled if the ScriptType field is = "TTA" and enabled otherwise. How can I do this?..something along these lines see below..I am using VB..
I have a DetailsView on the page and I have made one of the fields a TemplateField. In the EditItemTemplate and InsertItemTemplate I have a DropdownList that is databound to a table in my Sql Server database. I wanted to add an initial value to the DropdownList namely "- select -" .
I set the AppendDataBoundItems property to true and added the initial value as a ListItem.Markup of the DropdownList
This works fine for new input. The problem is however that the database already has records that were entered through a Windows Application and many of these records has a null value in this field and exceptions are thrown when I tried to open these records and the system tried to set the SelectedValue of the DropdownList.After some more searching I found this help
This now solved the problem of opening a record where the value is null in the database, BUT now the RequiredFieldValidator is not validating anymore to make sure that a databound item is selected for this field and not the initial value "- select -". So basically now it is not checking anymore to see if valid input has been entered for the DropDownList and it accepts "- select -" thus it acts as if the field is not a required field anymore.
In short what is required is that I want to make sure that the user enters a valid selection in the DropDownList, but it must also cater for old records that do not have this field entered yet so that those old records can be opened in the DetailsView .Opening Old records (with null in that field):When these old records are opened in the DetailsView the DropDownlist should show "- select -" when the value in the database is null.
Saving records (old or new records):When saving the record in Insert mode or Update mode the RequiredFieldValidator should show that a valid input is not selected if the DropDownList is still on "- select -".
I have a grid view, and I add new column as a hyper link field, I want the navigationURL for this field to be Pageexample.aspx?ID=other field value like this
