DataSource Controls :: LINQ To Entities Sub - Query - Doesn't Support The "IN" Clause

Apr 7, 2010

I'm having trouble writing what should be a simple sub-query using LINQ to Entities. I have two tables: Customers and Orders that have a relation on the CustID field. Not all Customers have a record in the Orders table, while some have mutiple records. In traditional SQL, you could write the query like this: SELECT * FROM Orders where CustID IN (SELECT CustID FROM Customers) I know this could be done as a JOIN in both SQL and L2E, but my actual query is more complex (about 8-9 joins), so I am hoping to find a L2E sub-query equivalent. Something like this:

[Code]....

I know LINQ to Entities does not support the " IN " clause, so I am looking for something that will work in its place.

DataSource Controls :: A Simple LINQ Query Doesn't Seem To Work?

Feb 26, 2010

I have records with and without a email entered in the field called 'email'.

This one works:

Return From p In db.myTable _

Where p.Email.Length > 0 _

Select New With {.p.Name, p.Email}

but this doesn't

Return From p In db.myTable _

Where p.Email.Length = 0 _ ( nor does Where NOT p.Email.Length > 0 )

Select New With {.p.Name, p.Email}

Am I missing something?

DataSource Controls :: Linq - Update Statement Where Clause?

May 25, 2010

I am using Linq to SQL. Tables have timestamp columns and I am using regular Linq methodology in ASP.NET MVC.I do use detached entities and always try to do updates without first querying the database for the original entity. To update an entity I use context.Attach(entity, true) followed by context.SubmitChanges() and all is fine. The sql statement that gets executed looks like:

DataSource Controls :: Clause Criteria Eliminating Records In Outer Join Query?

Feb 15, 2010

I know I'm missing something here but I can't figure out what it is. I've got a query joining three tables....accounts, payments, and a table linking the two (there is a M:M relationship).I'm trying to pull a list of all accounts in the account table that have a payment that needs to be resequenced, and also the maximum payment priority if there are any payments that haven't been fully paid. If all payments HAVE been fully paid, I want to return a 0.

It's that last bit of logic that I can't get right. If I include that in the where clause, I get only the accounts that have a payment that hasn't been fully paid. If I take it out, I get all the accounts I get, but I get the highest payment priority whether or not the payment has been fully met.

Here is the query....how do I include the where clause criteria but still include all accounts?

select distinct
bat.acct_id,
isnull(max(isnull(crt.pymt_priority, 0)), 0)[code].....

DataSource Controls :: Perform A Search For Records In Linq-to-Entities?

Jan 26, 2010

I trying to create a search mechanism for records in a EDM based on text entered on a text box in a web page.

For example, if I enter a partial name of a customer and/or state abrebiation for that customer on the Text Box (abc, TX)s, I want to search name and state fields in a Customer table in my database for matching customers.

I found a solution with the namespaceSystem.Linq.Dynamic, but for some reason it is not working. It does not expose the Search() method. Here is the code I am using to perform the search;

What Is The Underlying Type Of The Result From A Linq To Entities Query

Jan 20, 2011

for example,

var result = from category in myEntities.Categories
where category.UserId == userId
orderby category.CategoryName
select category;

What is the type of "result"? I casted it to an IQueryable variable and it worked except it did not have some of the methods normally available, e.g. Count(). In my program I have to cast it to some explicit types and then use the Count() method.

DataSource Controls :: Linq To Entities - Multilevel Projection Into Business Class And Not Breaking Deferred Execution?

Mar 18, 2010

I have a problem. (this a simplfied example)

In Entity framework I have a class which is effectively

fooEntity
{
public Guid Id {get; set;}
and a collection of fooChildEntity
}
a fooChildEntity is again an entityframework class
fooChildEntity
{
public Guid kidId {get; set;}
}

Now I also have a pair of business layer classes foo and fooChild

foo
{
public Guid Id {get; set;}
ilist<fooChild> Children {get;set;}
}
fooChild
{
public Guid kidId {get; set;}
}

My aim is to write a linq to entites that will allow me to convert the entity foo and children into the business foo and children without breaking deferred execution ( I will be adding filters to reduce the recordset at a higher coding level in the business layer)

doing something like

this.context.fooEntity

.include(fooChildEntity)

.Select( fe => new foo { Id=fe.Id ,

fe.foreach(fec => Children.add( new fooChild { kidId = fec.kidId}))})

.AsIQueryable()

is plainly rubbish and would never compile - it is however an indication of the direction I was thinking .

Even if I got a foreach to work like that or similar it would break deferred execution

At this point there are around 300,000 foo entities which I will eventualy filter to 5 or 6 foo's - this is why deferred execution is needed.

ADO.NET :: LINQ To Entities Doesn't Recognize The "Int32 Parse(System.String)" Method

Dec 14, 2010

I am using Entity Framework to contact my data base. as part of my web code I am using Linq to entities, and I want to determine the number of elements in an anonymous type list. I can't get it to work, I get the exception: "LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Int32 Parse(System.String)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression."

var questItem = from chapters in context.TestChapter
from questions in context.Question
where chapters.ID == int.Parse(Request.QueryString["id"])
where questions.TestChapterID == chapters.ID
select questions.ID;
int numOfSteps = questItem.Count();

how can I get it to work?

Ordering Sub-items Within Ordered Items In A Linq To Entities Query?

Aug 25, 2010

I have a few tables, Listings, ListingImages and a few others related to Listings. ListingImages is related to Listings so that you can have many ListingImages per Listing.

When I query this table I do;

[code].....

Now this is fine. However, I now want to sort the ListingImages independently within each Listing (by an ImageOrder column I have in that table).

How can I do this and pass all my Includes(...). Would it be bad form to sort the ListingImages within the View as this solution seems to work?
