DataSource Controls :: Linq To SQL Does Not Implement System.Collections.IEnumerable?

Oct 21, 2010

I am having a lot of the same issue as this poster did with errors on initializing type.

I am trying to learn linq and am about ready to give up - don't get how this is easier...

I'm trying to do a simple update to product names in the product table based on the manufacturer ID

In order to do this I am looping through each record. I was initally successful with changing all names in the column but when I try to query the data, I continually run into multiple problems.

The following poster has had the same issue I have but his solution isn't working for me.

[URL]

I keep getting the same error on the opening bracket on the select statement in the SelectByManufacturerID function...

Error 1 Cannot initialize type 'DataBaseDataManagement.ProductName' with a collection initializer because it does not implement 'System.Collections.IEnumerable'

Button that does the actual updating...

[Code]....

The function that the button calls to get the query... ERROR

[Code]....

The class located in Query.cs...

Custom Server Controls :: Using The Generic Type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable' Requires '1' Type Arguments

Nov 25, 2010

I'm trying to create a control out of a class I found, and one of the overridden functions is the following:

protected override void PerformDataBinding(IEnumerable data)

However, when I try to build the control I'm getting the error as shown in the subject. I've tried searching, and it seems the signature for the original function matches the one I have, and all other solutions I've seen uses the same signature.

I mean, what is the faster way to get as fast as I can more than one table with stored procedure? Is there any study what is faster and why? There is a big problem getting more than one table at once with Entities, so the only way is DataSet. But I was told DataSet work very slow. Is that true?

C# - How To Implement A Category Hierarchy Using Collections

Apr 14, 2010

I have about 200 categories that are nested. I am currently reading the documention on the C5 generics library. I am not sure if the C5 library is overkill or not. I am looking at converting all my custom algorithms to the C5 implemention.

This is what I need. If a certain category is chosen i need to find its parents, siblings, direct children, and all children.

This is the way I have it set up. To find the:

Parents: I start from the current location then loop through the list and find the current parent. When I find the parent I loop through the whole list again to find the next parent and so on.

Siblings: I loop through the whole list and find all the nodes that have the same parent as the choosen node.

direct children: I loop through the whole list and find all nodes that is a parent of the choosen node.

All Children: This one took me a while to figure out. But I used recursion to find all children of the choosen node.

DataSource Controls :: The Type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' Is Defined In An Assembly That Is Not Referenced?

May 28, 2010

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

[Code]....

Then I get this error:The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:

<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

DataSource Controls :: How To Convert Entity Collections To A Dataset

May 19, 2010

I'm having trouble using entities: I still want to use entities on my "DAL" layer, but in "BLL" layer I want to return not a collection of entities but just a Dataset with all the table I got back from Stored Procedure. How can I do that?

The presention layer don't know anything about entities, if I can get just a dataset from "BLL", it will be very easy to work with it as it was before. Only the DAL and BLL layers will be changing.

P.S.

Does entities support stored procedure that is returning more than one table, I mean more than one entity?! If not, This is another BIG problem Microsoft didn't think about.

I must tell you the truth: I am really disappointed about using Entities. There is no logical support for Stored Procedure and too many problems when you want to have N-Tiers. It is like Microsoft have done only half of the work needed so this will be really usefull.
