Mar 26, 2010I have to create PDF Files reading data from SQL Server where the data is in Binary format as Image data type.

View 2 RepliesI have a table with a varbinary(MAX) column. I want to use the FileUpload control to save the file directly there by a stored procedure. How do you do it without using SaveAs to create a temporary file first?
View 9 Repliesmy ASP.NET application reads an xml file to determine which environment it's currently in (e.g. local, development, production).
It checks this file every single time it opens a connection to the database, in order to know which connection string to grab from the Application Settings.
I'm entering a phase of development where efficiency is becoming a concern. I don't think it's a good idea to have to read a file on a physical disk ever single time I wish to access the database (very often).
I was considering storing the connection string in Application["ConnectionString"].
[code].....
I didn't design the application so I figure there must have been a reason for reading the xml file every time (to change settings while the application runs?) I have very little concept of the inner workings here. What are the pros and cons?
I need to be able to read an excel file from a file upload control but I can not save the file to disk first, it must be done in memory.
[Code]....
Above is my code for reading the data file if it IS saved to disk, but again, I have to be able to do this without saving the file to disk, it must be done in memory. I have not been able to find any sample code anywhere on how to do this from memory, everything seems to force the file be uploaded, saved to disk, and then read in the connection string, which again I can not do.
I have a third party CMS system that can create forms but can't manage true File upload capabities. I am able to get users brows for thier file and have the value submited to my custom .net code behind page for processing. So I end up with like "C:somefilefoldersomefile.doc".
But on my processing page I want to read this file (like the file uploader) and save it to a location. I tried using the file uploader control (but have it not visible) but realized I can't preset it as I was planning to set it and do the normal processing from there. Is there another way to do this?
I have a 1.5 GB file into a table. I want to read It from server and create a file stream with it for save.
When I use DataAdapter.Fill(DataSet); code OutOfMemoryException occurs.
What should I do for read a hage file from data base?
I have a web project and I saved my images in Physical folders in hdd Like d:SecretImagesImagename. But I can't open the files when I have to? I thought if it can saves for examle d:SecretImagesTemp.jpg, I can open when I have to but, I can't.
View 3 RepliesI'm getting tired figuring out this error. Well, Basically. I have uploaded my ASP.net website to a server (IIS installed) as well as the VB project I made.
BOTH are connecting to a DB named CLIENTS.
the website uses a datagrid to show data, while the VB Project updates the DB based on a monitored folder.
The Problem is If the website is opened first the VB project shows an error "Unable to open the physical file (MDF). Operating system error 32 (error not found)" and Vice Versa if the VB project is first started.
I am facing a problem with retrieving an image and showing it on asp.net grid. I migrated MS Access database to sql server. Image are visible in Crystal report when fetched from the same database (migrated sql server database). But same images are not visible in ASP.Net grid view or simple asp.net image control. Following is my code
SqlConnection oConn =
new
SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["csr"].ToString());
oConn.Open();
SqlCommand oraCmd = oConn.CreateCommand();
oraCmd.CommandText = "select top 1 photo from [test] where photo is not null";
SqlDataReader dr =
null;
dr = oraCmd .ExecuteReader ();
if(dr.Read ())
if (dr["photo"] !=
null)
{
Response.ContentType = "image/gif";
Response.BinaryWrite((byte[])dr["photo"]);
}
This function is getting called from another page . "hlopen" is hyper link in the grid. hlopen.NavigateUrl = "GetPhoto.aspx?id=1";
how do I go about inserting into a database special characters such as the uppercase O, umlaut Ö Please understand that I have been able to insert the special character from inside MMS by putting an N in front of the value but when I run the SQL file from inside an ASP.net 4.0 page it comes up as a diamond with a question mark in it
View 12 RepliesI creating a page where our clients can view advertising images and then able to download the images in different file formats. So I need the images and the different download types all saved into the same row in the database so that when I go to display them on the page when they select a picture the right download links will be there. So here where my problem comes in, I don't know how to code it so that I can insert mulitiple file paths into the database at once. The images are saved in a table called images. The downloads are saved in a table called Image Downloads.
Here is the code for the page I have it coded to submit the images to the database but not sure how to add the rest. I have got three different sql datasources for each table not sure if that's the way to go.

Here is what I am basically trying to accomplish I want to upload images to the server separated into categories and save the file path into the database. I have found plenty of documentation on saving to a file and the file path to a database. But, I haven't found anything that will allow me to seperate the images into categoies.
I have made three tables in the database
[code]....
What I am trying to do is create a gallery for our clients to browse and download different vesions of posters and ad cards.
I would like to be able to read an image based on a url hosted elsewhere. To be clear, this is a legitimate service that is provided and they do allow caching of data, so I'm not trying to steal someone elses data.
So far I have the following code:
public static byte[] GetBytesFromUrl(string url)
{
byte[] bytes;
HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse();
The area that I'm looking to improve on is the emboldened line. I think it would be better to read in say 1024k chunks until the file end. Can anyone help me out with the syntax for this?

View 2 RepliesI have got a page in which there is a file upload option where I have to upload/import the csv file. What I want to do is to check if the correct format of file is uploaded for instance if any other than csv file is uploaded, the system should give an error message. Also what I need to do is to check certain fields of the csv file for instance there are some mandatory fields in the csv file which should be there like name , postcode, How can I check that these fields are not empty . After performing these task, the system should automatically upload the csv file onto the sql sever 2008.
View 3 RepliesI have been searching for some information on how to import my xml file into a series of tables using a mapping file (schema).
View 2 RepliesI am trying to read a text file from the root of the server. This is what I tried
Code:
Dim sr As StreamReader
Try
sr = File.OpenText("~ est.txt")
Label1.Text = sr.ReadToEnd
Catch ex As Exception
Label1.Text = ex.Message
End Try
If I test this locally, I get the error: "Could not find a part of the path 'C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesMicrosoft SharedDevServer10.est.txt'."If I upload it and run the code on the server, nothing happens (Lable1.text does not change).

I urgently need to find a way of reading data from a .CSV or .xls(Excel) file into an sql database so that I can use it in my asp.net 2.0 application.
View 4 RepliesReading XLS file in 64 bit server , following errror "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0 not registered on local Is any solution for this problem?
View 1 RepliesI know this is probably a pretty easy thing to do and it is if I can upload the file and store it onto the hard drive of the server. What I need to do is read the text file into memory and then parse through it one line at a time. Anyone have any code that demonstrates that?

I have a simple SqlCE database one table consisting of 4 columns (specialvalue, name, state)
I am using a streamreader from a file.txt that contains 3000 lines of csv data, looping the below.
s[] = {id,name,specialvalue,state) //(SAMPLE DATA-displaying names)
while(!sr.EndOfStream)
{

This code works as expected but I would like to increase the performance since it takes over 30 sec to complete. I will be moving to a stored procedure later but would like to find out how to optimize the current code. This is more for experience than anything. It is a project that I am working on for codeplex.
I currently have a file "abc.htm" in my Custom Server Control Project and it's Build Action is set to Embedded Resource.Now in the RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output) method, I need to read that file and render it on the website.I am trying the following but it's to no avail:
protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output)
{
var providersURL = Page.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(typeof (OpenIDSel), "OpenIDSelector.Providers.htm");
var fi = new FileInfo(providersURL); // <- exception here
//the remaining code is to possibly render the file
}
This is an example of how the providersURL is:
/WebResource.axd?d=kyU2OiYu6lwshLH4pRUCUmG-pzI4xDC1ii9u032IPWwUzMsFzFHzL3veInwslz8Y0&t=634056587753507131
FileInfo is throwing System.ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path.
A variety of files (pdf, images, etc.) are stored in a ntext field on a MS SQL Server. I am not sure what type is in this field, other than it shows question marks and undefined characters, I am assuming they are binary type.
The script is supposed to iterate through the rows and extract and save these files to a temp directory. "filename" and "contenttype" are given, and "data" is whatever is in the ntext field.
[code].....
This works, but the file should be saving to the server instead of popping up save-as dialog. I am not sure if there is a way to save the response to file.
I am writing code to insert values from an xml file. I check for a duplicate before inserting and delete if there is a match. Is there a more effecient way to prevent duplicates before insert a record? my code: private void LoadFData() { SqlConnection oConn = new SqlConnection(ConnectionString); SqlCommand oCommand = new SqlCommand(); oCommand.Connection = oConn; oCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text; oConn.Open(); // Load committee master files string[] strFiles = System.IO.Directory.GetFiles("fff", "ffff.dta", System.IO.SearchOption.AllDirectories); for (int i=0; i
