DataSource Controls :: User Data From Database - Can't Fill Ddl On PageLoad Because Of DataBound

I have a database where a user inputs data to multiple databound drop down listboxes. That's saved to my aspnet database. Then when the page loads again, I want to select the ddls items that the user selected as stored in the database to these databound ddls. But it doesn't work, because on pageload, they haven't been databound yet.
What's the best way to do this? Do I need to run a SELECT statement for each and every ddl on it's databound event?

So I am using a formview that gets in Update mode with a bunch of values from a sqldatasource --- but I want to fill a couple dropdowns with data from the database --- but I cannot figure out how to bind the data to the dropdown box FIRST and then select the value in that dropdown box... but I keep getting an error that the Selected value is not a part of the dropdown (I assume because the sqldatasource is trying to bind BEFORE I can get the dropdown box bound).
IE -- when I load my values, lets say a 'Crop' comes back as 'Corn' ... I want to download the available crops from the database (ie. corn, beans, wheat, okra, etc.) and then set the selected value as CORN.... SO HOW do I get the dropdown filled BEFORE I try and bind the selected value?

I have DataList control and I want to assign to it's edititemtemplate some User Control. The problem is I can't find when I should databound UserControl to data, as my UserControl doesn't have static look (it renders different depending on some property values and datasource).
I was try to simply set my user control in edititemtemplate

and then bind it to data in ItemDataBound event handler, but it remains empty

the following will clearly show the steps i have taken to achieve a connectivity to database "123" such that the remote user who is using sql login verification can do whatever he wants with the "123" database, and thee remote user cannot change anything of any other database.
?the permission u see granted in the pictures is just guest work, IT WORKS! but i would like to know the required correct permission to grant and not more permissions (to the point permission- DO ANYTHING WITH DATABASE "123" AND THATS IT- DONT EVEN SEE THE OTHER DATABASES)

I have five textboxes(tb1, tb2, ... tb5) on the page, each textbox represent a column in the database table.
I need to search the database table based on the text in the textboxes. User can either enter text in all five textboxes or none.
What's the best way to do a search?
I am thinking for one textbox(tb1), depends on if tb1.text is empty or not, I need to do 2 searches

for two textboxes(tb1 & tb2), depends on if tb1.text and/or tb2.text are empty or not, there are 4 combinations, so I need to do 4 searches

for three textboxes, there are 8 combinations,
Does that mean for five textboxes, I need to do 2 to the power of 5, 32 combinations, 32 if statements?

I am creating a database frontend in aspx/C# using LINQ to MSSQL. It has two pages: a main page which lists all of the records, and a page that appears when the user click the "Edit" button next to one of the list items for the user to edit a record.The database table has about 70 user-editable fields. I need to make the edit page, allowing the user to update/insert records. I have a masterPage on that i am using AjaxModalPopup for login purpose.My requirement is when i login via Master page then it should show the Logged-in User details on the current Content Page that is using same master page.
Here i am using following code to get it back to the same content page after succesful login but it does not show the user details on the same content page rather when i go to next page then it appears.
