DataSource Controls :: Permission To Grant -so That The Remote User Can Do Any Thing To The Database
Jun 19, 2010
the following will clearly show the steps i have taken to achieve a connectivity to database "123" such that the remote user who is using sql login verification can do whatever he wants with the "123" database, and thee remote user cannot change anything of any other database.
?the permission u see granted in the pictures is just guest work, IT WORKS! but i would like to know the required correct permission to grant and not more permissions (to the point permission- DO ANYTHING WITH DATABASE "123" AND THATS IT- DONT EVEN SEE THE OTHER DATABASES)
?how shall i stop this remote user or deny this remote user from even viewing the other databases. a you can see the remote user cannot change anything in other databases but he can see them! I DOT WANT Him to VIEW THEM.
please give your comments and guidence "to achieve the above goals LIKE A PROFESSIONAL WOULD"
and a site link explaining these many permissions in sql server 2005 management studio express would be helpful.
I'm using the Aspnet_regsql.exe for roles in my app. I want to grant someone temporary permission to access some of the pages in this site for a limited amount of time. I would like to grant a user permission for a couple days or so, then revoke these permissions. Or create a user with full permissions that would only last a couple days.
I am getting this error on my web site and it is preventing the site from compiling. The site is in full trust and the web site files are on the local drive. Web searches show that the only two issues are full trust not enabled or the files on a UNC path that is not trusted and neither is the case here. This site is on an Win2008/IIS7 server. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening or where to look for other trust level or security settings to resolve this.
two weeks ago I read a MSDN(?) article how to grant/revoke permission for some users/roles/groups on a specific page or holder temporarily or with condion. The article shows how to do it Form_Load() in c#. But I can't find the link with googling or in MSDN library.
Please let me know if you know the url?
What I want to do is:
There is a folder called employeePDFs.
The folder will have 1000s employees' sub folder ({lastname}{firstname}{employeeID}). Each folder will have very personal indivual PDF files which are manually uploaded.
If an employee logs on, then the logon employee can view a page which has a list of PDF files in his own folder only.
Could not load file or assembly 'aDllFile, Version = 1.0.0.0, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = null' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant minimum permission request.
Now I am checking it on my own computer (Windows7).
I am following this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa701256(office.11).aspx to research on Excel project.
Everything works fine during development. When I publish to local computer IIS, I cannot open the excel file. The error is:
Could not load file or assembly 'DiagramOrder, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Failed to grant permission to execute. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131418)
I think it is related to Security Configuration and found this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/zdc263t0(VS.80).aspx. I use step
To grant full trust to an assembly or folder on your local computer and also To grant full trust to an assembly or folder on a network computer or mapped drive.
I also refer to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/9w6bd8f1(VS.80).aspx to add Msosec.dll to have Full Trust.
After all the settings, I do restart computer. All the steps taken just cannot resolve the problem.
I am not try using caspol utility because I think it should same as what I did using UI. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Notes: - Using ASP .NET Framework v2.0.50727 (.NET Framework 3.5 actually) - IIS v5.1
I am getting the error message "SELECT permission denied on object 'MyTable', database 'MyDB', owner 'dbo'.", when trying to run a small asp.net application via a browser where i work.
I built it on my local machine(VS 2008, C#) and transferred over to an IIS server(i.e. Windows Server 2003) and I have also enabled the application folder in IIS.
It runs fine on my local machine. Connection string in web.config on my local machine <add name="connstring" connectionString="Data Source=DBASE;Initial Catalog=MyDB;Integrated Security=true" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
on the server, connection string is <.......;User Id=userid;Password="mypassword" />.
But when i swapped connection string on server to use <Integrated Security=true>, and tried to run from a browser again, i get:
Login failed for user 'SVRSERVERNAME$'
I have a couple of other apps I built in the past and they are running fine, I didn't do anything special, just transferred them as normal to server and ran through browser
In fact, one of my previous apps even uses the same table and database. but with this new app, I don't know why it wouldn't work even though it runs perfect on my local machine
I can access the database manually from SQL Management studio, i connect to it using my Windows account or the given username/password credentials.
Other thing I noticed, when I changed the connection string on my local machine web.config to use <User Id=userid;Password="mypassword">, i then get same error as if it was running from the server:
SELECT permission denied on object 'MyTable', database 'MyDB', owner 'dbo'.
I have a website I'm trying to catch up to speed on. It is throwing a null exception when the code tries to assign a variable pulled from a SqlDataSource query. The query is below:
[code]....
I want to know if there is a way to test the connection to the remote IP Address perhaps through some debugging tools and as a general question how would the web app authenticate against the remote database? I just see the connection string but no user name etc.
In my windows application, i am listing the System DSN's configured on the remote machine in a combobox. Once i select the DSN and click on Connect button, i should be able to connect to the remote database. I am trying to open the connection to the database using ODBC but am getting the below error.
ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
I have a database with tons of SP. Is there a way to grant a new user access to all SP so the user can execute then?If the SP inserts data in a table do I have to grant the the user that executes the SP so he/she is allowed to insert data
I need expression for following things1.HH:MM in Military format2.mm/dd/YYYYThere is one catch if user is not entering any thing system should not show any message but if he is entering any thing then it should ask from the format.I am using a grid view with 20 rows ans in that so many columns are available. In that grid i have to check this thing
I have created web pages using VS Web Developer that use a local Developer Edition of SQL server database on my PC with LINQ to SQL. When I deploy my website to a remote web host SQL server, I need for my web pages to be able to use the remote database instead of the local database. So, how do I get the Server Explorer to connect with a remote SQL Server database?
I have a web app that uses AD to authenticate the user which works great. But i received a request where a user that is outside of the Ad needs access to the application.
Is there a way to add this user manually (Maybe in web.config) to allow them to access the application?
I want to enable/disable controls of a asp.net page against a logged in user's permission. say 'admin' & 'hr' can change user's birth date text-box in a page but others will see the text-box as disabled.
sing VS 2008 at a workstation, I have successfully developed a local, file-system ASP.NET 3.5 website. The wbesite included a membership page with Windows authentication and a web parts page. The SQL Server 2005 ASPNETDB database has been created at an IIS web servr. Using the ASP.Net development server of the workstation, both the membership Membership/WebParts pages at the local website worked very well.
Then, I copied the website to a virtual directory at the IIS web server and creates a remote website for the workstation. Under theASP.NET development server of the workstation, both membership and webparts pages of the remote website at the IIS web server also worked fine.
However, when running these web pages from the IIS web server machine, something wrong happened with the web parts page. (The membership page still worked very well.) For the ASPNETDB database at the IIS web server machine, there is an EXECUTE permission error on an ASPNET stored procedure.
What are the differences between the ASP.NET development server and IIS web sever, which caused the EXECUTE permission error on the ASP.NET S.P.? How to find and fix the errors?
I'm trying to allow logged user who are in department XYZ to perform some task for my third party App. I have two SQL tables named Users & UserList. The third party app (GoldMine) graps the USERNAME from the Users table and store it as UserID which I then referecnce SessionID. The UserList table has two columns (GM_UserName & Department) which I'm interested in. When a user login into the 3rd party app (GoldMine), i then compare the USERNAME (from Users table) to GM_UserName (from UserList table) and see whether GM_UserName is in = 'Dept XYZ'. Take a look at the SQL query below.
sqlDept = "SELECT USERNAME FROM Users LEFT JOIN UserList ON UserList.GM_UserName=Users.UserName WHERE UserList.Department ='Dept XYZ'"
I'm able to do this.
If Session("Userid") = "TestUser1" Or Session("UserID") = "TestUser2" Then Do this Else Do that End If BUT unable to do this... If user's Department = 'Department XYZ' Then Do This Else Do that End IF
how I can correct an error. I've built the MVCMusicStore tutorial here:
http://mike-ciccone.com/Store/
The first time I visit the site and attempt a database connection I get this error:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.
But when I refresh, it all works fine. I'm at a bit of a loss. I don't believe I'm attempting to create a database, but I realise that the error may not really have anything to do with that. This is hosted at GoDaddy shared hosting. The database was created and I used an SQL script to create the tables initially and populate the data. My connection string works as I can pull data from the database, but I do have a feeling it will be a web.config setting that will correct this.
I have a database where a user inputs data to multiple databound drop down listboxes. That's saved to my aspnet database. Then when the page loads again, I want to select the ddls items that the user selected as stored in the database to these databound ddls. But it doesn't work, because on pageload, they haven't been databound yet.
What's the best way to do this? Do I need to run a SELECT statement for each and every ddl on it's databound event?
I am a new-bie in Asp.Net.I am working in a project where I need to store an attachment which will be uploaded by the user in radGrid into Sql server 2005 database. After storing this attachment, I have to retrieve this attcahment and show the same to the other users in radGrid so that they will be able to download the attachment and see that. How should I do that?what kind of datatype would it be?
I've been playing about for ages in an attempt to get a simple bit of code that can detect whether or not SQL Server is listening remotely or just locally.. My pretty lame attempt so far is as follows:
[Code]....
I'm sure there must be a better way to do this! Aside from the fact that this code fails to work properly.
sp.IPAddresses contains:
- 127.0.0.1 - 0.0.0.0 - 10.0.0.10
When I used Surface Area Manager > Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections and set Remote Connections to "Local connections only" sp.IPAddresses still contains the same addresses.
quick question on SQL Studio Mgt Expres (SSMES) 2208. I have been googling around but could not find a clear cut answer to this simple issue:Is it possible to connect to a remote db using SSMES 2008? The options at login appear to be restricted to Database Engine and SQL Server Compact Edition only. On the SSME 2005 version, there was an option to connect to remote db's usging server name & pwd. Has this feature been disabled in the 2008 Express version?
