DataSource Controls :: How To Get A String For Comparison Purposes

Jan 19, 2010

I have a table with userID's stored in it and I want to SELECT a user out of that table to see if it's the current logged in user. I'm using this as logic to determine what action a button click will do. For example the button click will do something like this:

[Code]....

My broblem is getting the UserName from my table of data. I've tried it like this:[Code]....

But when I try debugging it shows that CurrentUser's value = Nothing

My UserNames (ToUser) contain letters and numbers (nvarchar(30)).

DataSource Controls :: Split / Cast A String In Sql For Comparison?

Feb 8, 2010

comparing integer values which are actually in string (varchar(9)) right now...I'm trying to do the following in a stored procedure..

SET @MinProjectYear = SELECT ProjYear FROM P_A WHERE ID = @ID
SET @MaxProjectYear = SELECT ProjYear FROM P_A WHERE UserId = @UserID AND...
IF EXISTS(SELECT 1 FROM P_A WHERE MinProjectYear <= MaxProjectYear)
return true

The MinProjectYear and MaxProjectYear are varchar(9) values stored as "2007-2008", "2009-2010", etc.
How do I split and compare the years?? i.e. check if 2007-2008 <= 2009-2010 ??

How To Get Exception Type Without String Name (ex.GetType().FullName) Comparison In Page_Error Handler

Dec 13, 2010

Is there a better way to do this than to check for Exception string?

I would rather have this catch-all error handled on the page, but for SOAP exceptions (web-service calls) I need to log the details of the actual exception that occured on the server, not the client.

The ".Detail.InnerText" property isn't in a generic exception, and can only be gotten after casting a generic exception to a SOAP exception.

[Code]....

I would think there is a way to get at the underlying Exception's type without using string comparison.

DataSource Controls :: Incorrect String / Format The QueryBuilder String Correctly In Code?

Jul 7, 2010

I'm concatenating a string in codebehind to use in a sql select statement.

in aspx

<asp:Label ID="LabelHidden" runat="server" Visible="False"></asp:Label>
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [Data] WHERE [ActivityName] IN (@ActivityName) AND ([ID] = @ID)"
<SelectParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="DropDownList_Employees" Name="ID"
PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="Int32" />
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="LabelHidden" Name="ActivityName"
Type="String" />
</SelectParameters>
in codebehind
foreach (ListItem li in ListBox_Activities.Items)
{
if (li.Selected)
{
queryBuilder += li + "', ";
}
queryBuilder = queryBuilder.Substring(0, queryBuilder.Length - 1);
LabelHidden.Text = queryBuilder;

When i run the code it comes up blank. I did a query trace and it seems to be running as

exec sp_executesql N'SELECT * FROM [Data] WHERE [ActivityName] IN (@ActivityName) AND ([ID] = @ID)',N'@EmployeeID int,@ActivityName nvarchar(50)',@EmployeeID=4,@ActivityName=N'Production Technical Support'', Tools Development'','

with exta "'s

How can i format the queryBuilder string correctly in my code?

DataSource Controls :: Variable Connection String Parameter In A DataSource Control

May 20, 2010

I have several web forms which use a GridView linked to a DataSource control which is defined at design time as follows:

<cc1:pgsqldatasource
id="dsStates"
runat="server"
connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection %>"
oldvaluesparameterformatstring="Original_{0}"
providername="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection.ProviderName %>" >
</cc1:pgsqldatasource>

As you can see, the connectionstring parameter is defined to a specific connection string name and I need to be able to set such a parameter to a different value, for example, to a session variable content.

I am having problems in deploying my first project in asp.net and for about 3 days still I haven't deploy yet my first web app. First, I need to deploy my web in windows xp for demonstration purposes before deploying it in the dedicated server. Is there a best tutorial that I can follow in order for me to easily deploy my first web app? I feel so disappointed with it because, it seems that it is not easy to deploy a web app that is made of ASP.NET.

C# - Design A Database For Templated Logging Purposes?

Jan 30, 2010

In my web application I want to log certain user interactions etc, like "User ABC joined Group XYZ" Therefore I want to set up a logging mechanism that logs into a Mssql database. I'm now trying to find a good database design to achieve flexibility.

First of all, I don't want to log strings like "User ABC joined Group XYZ". I'd like to separate the content "ABC" and "XYZ" from the template. So I'm looking for a templated logging database.

Something like this:
table: UserLog

IDLog int primary key [code]......

I think this database structure would give me enough flexibility to add/remove/edit specific log types (like 'User ABC did something else'). For example I might want to add some information to a specific log entry for future entries. Therefore I create a new UserLogTemplate that references the same UserLogType. That is how I would achieve downward compatibility.

Is that a database design that will work?

If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation

DataSource Controls :: Code Behind Fail SQL String?

Mar 16, 2010

ive an access database with a table, in this table there is only one data column and one counter column (id, pet) i want to draw random a record. Reading on the web i came with this SQL solution: "SELECT TOP 1 tab_pets.pet FROM tab_pets ORDER BY Rnd(id)" and it works perfectly.

The problem is while using this statement in my code behind (in a class) as it draw always the same record, hence generates the same random each time. I though that the access Rnd() function would be handled by the access driver and not by my application, how can i resolve this?

DataSource Controls :: Better Way To Retrieve Connection String?

Apr 7, 2010

I have an app that connects to only one db for all of the data that the app has access to. My connection string is in the Web.Config file. In each of my DAL classes I have the following code that gets the connection string from the Config file. This works with no issues but I thought there might be a better way of doing this that I don't know.

If I wanted to change the name of the connection string that any of the DAL classes would use then I would have to change the name of the connection string in each of the files. I thought about creating a new class that would hold this then I could just instantiate a new instance of the class to access this with each of the DAL classes that needs access to it. Then if I needed to change the name of the connection string then it would only be in one place. I suspect there is an even better way of doing this that i don't know about.

DataSource Controls :: String Input Failing When Trying To Log On?

Feb 2, 2010

Having a bit of trouble with a logon page I created using text boxes for a User ID number and a password.

Basically, my original design was to have a textbox for a username and one for a password. Due to some complications, I changed the username to the User ID number input and as such, the input credentials went from being a string to an integer. I've changed this successfully, however when I now type in a string, rather than the integer it requires, the page fails.

how to edit this so if a user enters a string value instead of a numeric value, an error message can show up on a label instead of the whole project coming to a halt because of an error?

Here's the code I have for the page so far, which does the job (apart from this problem!)

using System;
using System.Data;
using System.Data.Sql;
using System.Data.SqlClient;
using System.Data.SqlTypes;
