i had a requirement for dynamic sorting so i wanted to assign order by.. dynamically depending on what column is clicked for sorting
i tried to modify the sql data source command
in ds selecting event by using
e.command.CommandText=modifiedCommandHere; but it doesnt work as it always picks up selectCommand specified in aspx page
I want to call a method in the code behind file from the aspx file, but I can't get the TypeName propery correct.
I can call methods in the dll:s in the bin folder and from files in the app folder, but not from code behind in the aspx page. What do I need to do.
Can the select command of a SqlDataSource be given by code in the code behind file. Also by calling the SqlDataSource.Select can the select statement be executed?
View 3 RepliesI have a detailsview which I am populating using a SQLDATASOURCE, which is bound to a table in a SQL db. Because the number of columns in the table will change, I am using SELECT * from [TABLENAME] to populate the view, this works fine.
My problem is that I need to also be able to update the table and I thought the best way was to generate the updatecommand in the code behind. This is no problem, code is as follows:

But the next stage is to create the relevant parameters for the update command. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? All of the information I have found for the updateParamater reference knowing the final value.
What I really need to do is the code behind equivalent of
<asp:Parameter Name="PARAMETERNAME" Type="Int32" />
Not sure whether this is possible.
I want to issue an INSERT command for an SQL Server table using DataAdapter without first issuing a SELECT command. Could anybody send me lines of code to handle this? Also how do i manage INSERT into selective table columns (I have 10 columns but i only want to update 2 of them)?

I am using VS 2008.I am building a datatable of records to be inserted into a SQL Server 2005 table.
The program loops through this table and builds a SqlParameter for each DataColumn in the datatable. The SqlParameters are used in the SQL Insert statement.
The field I am having a problem with is of type 'bit' in the database table and has no default value and cannot be nulls. The field is called 'Active' The meaning of this field in the application is Boolean i.e True or False. When inserting the record, I wish to default the field to "False".
When I define the columns in the datatable I am forced to use the following code to build the datatcolumn containing the boolean field i.e. dtcActive.DataType = GetType(Boolean) as there is no GetType(Bit)
Dim dtcActive As New DataColumn("Active")
dtcActive.DataType = GetType(Boolean)
dtcActive.Unique = False
dtcActive.AllowDBNull = False
dtcActive.DefaultValue = False
dtProviderDayDetails.Columns.Add(dtcActive)
However, when I build the SqlParameter I am forced to use this:

This is because there is no SqlDbType.Boolean. The problem I have is there is no value I have been able to give the SqlParameter that is accepted by the Insert statement. It complains that the boolean field cannot be null on Insert.

I have an object data source that is being used by an rdlc report, and the object data source uses a filter that is built from session variables passed to the page.
The report displays correctly, with the filter applied; however, I want to mark each of the rows as "printed" in a bit field in the database table.
In the table adapter, I have the following Update command that is used by the object data source:
UPDATE dbo.WorkOrder
SET boolWorkOrderPrinted = 'True'
WHERE (WorkOrderID = @Original_WorkOrderID)
And in the Page Load event, I run:
ObjectDataSource1.Update();
However, no records are updated.

i am a new user of asp.net and i am a learner so i just want to connect two dropdownlist to data souce and i want that the list item of second dropdown is changed according to change of selected item of first dropdown.
i have connect it to data source successfully it getting chaged items but it happance only when its load then if i select the next item of first one it would not work properly.
I'm using the asp.net membership on my website. On the User Administration page i've got a GridView to show the details of the users on the site. As a datasource rather than just using the Membership.GetAllUsers function i've got a SQLDataSource as i need to display user information from 3 different tables. I'm trying to add a delete button to the GridView. I'm setting the Membership's UserName as a DataKey and then using the RowDeleting event to call Membership.DeleteUser for the appropriate UserName. This works fine and the user is deleted however i then get an error showing up that "Deleting is not supported by data source 'SqlDataSource1' unless DeleteCommand is specified."
I don't want to use the SqlDataSource for deleting as i've already done it using the Membership. How can i stop it from trying to do this? Here is the cut-down that i have if you're interested. The selectcommand in the sqldatasource was auto-generated by it.

View 2 RepliesI know this sounds odd. I have a SQL DB that I am pulling data from. I have to some math functions to get a percentage. So I am pulling all the data in my code and building a data table with the results. I am then trying to pass this into a chart control that I have, but it fails because the data source is not correct for the chart control. I know that the chart control will accept a SQLDataSource control as a data source because a built a example with it before using it in my project.So my question is how can I use the Data Table as a data source for a SQLDataSource Control? Or is there a way I can pull the data from my DB andapply the math needed in a stored procedure or something similar that I could create the procedure on my SQL server then add a SQLDataSource control to my page and use the stored procedure as the source for the SQLDataSource Control.

As I noticed that using data source controls is much easier, but it allows only one data access method i.e. only one query... am I right with that....
