I have an employee salary table with fields empId, month, year, salary. I need query for the following - Total salary drown each employee last year - Id of the employee who got highest salary last year. i am getting wrong o/p for these queries.

Salary is given on 1st of every month , minimum CL for an employee is 12 days in a year. After 12 days , if he or she absent more than 12 days of CL , then deduct from his or her salary amount to be paid next times.

How do i generate another computed column that will contail the result of GrandTotal/Total,
where GrandTotal is another value comes from computed column and the Total would be the sum of the Total within SchedularID.

I've written a desktop application using VB.NET and SQLEXPRESS. Now I am trying to deploy it to WS 2k3. But getting positive results wiht SQLE is proving difficult. Here is the connection string I am using:
connectionString = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;" + "AttachDbFilename=" + DBPath + ";" + "Integrated Security=True;" + "Connect Timeout=30;" + "User Instance=True"
The problem is the results I get from the setting of 'User Instance'. Like it is, it loads a unique stance of SQLE, which is fine. But the instance just keeps eating memory. I tried limiting memory with sp_configure, but nothing happened. It just keeps growing. If I exclude 'User Instance', it uses the SQLE service running on my machine. It ignores the memory limitation, but eventually settles and stops growing.
Those results came from working on my local machine.When I put it on 2k3, I get the same results with User Instance = True; runaway memory. With User Instance = False, I start getting the 'attempt to attach an auto-named database failed' message. So now I am stuck. I would like to go with the 'User Instance = true' option, but I don't know how to deal with the runaway memory. If all else fails, I could use the =False option, but I just can't get 2k3 to allow.
I'm using ASP.Net with VB (Visual Web Developer 2010) and SQL(Management Studio Express 2008) to create a website that keeps track of employee subscriptions.A date is entered into my database whenever an employee makes a subscription.I need to find a way to send an automatic email to each employee when the current date exceeds the subscription date by one year.
I am unable to use an SQL job as I only have SQL MS express.From other posts I have read it seems the best way to do this is to create a webservice to send emails but I am unsure of how to get the email address for each employee from the database to the web service?Do you guys think a web service is the best way to do this?
I am using a drop down lists for selecting the month and year in .aspx page. I have to get last date of the selected month of particular selected year in .aspx.cs page. (some months have 30 days and some have 31 days)

I have a cell that needs to autoincrement by 1 for every new database row in my table, Unfortunately I have to have the autoincrement restart at 1 at the beginning of each year so I can't use SQL Server identity increment. Maybe i'm wrong about the last statement and I just don't know how to do it.

It should check for the records already in the database and should not insert the duplicate record. Based on the above case it should insert only one record

Customers of hours buy packs of hours, these are credited and debited on their account. We have a prepayhours table and that has various columns in it, one credit and one debit. I have written a query using the Query building and SQLDS to total these columns, which is fine. What i really want to do is get that query, or if there is an easier way to add up all the debits and subtract them from the total of credits so you would end up with a + or - totalThen with that i can put it into a label or if there was a way to add a row at the end of my gridview which just said total in one column and the total of the hours in the next.
