DataSource Controls :: Summing A Column From Multiple Rows?
Jul 1, 2010
I currently have a datasource that displays several rows on an editable gridview where the user can update several rows at once. Each row contains an ActivityTotal column per row. I'd like to sum all the ActivityTotal rows displayed and have one totalValue.
for example
row 1 activityTotal = 4
row 2 activityTotal = 3
row 3 activityTotal = 1
totalValue = 8
How can I incorporate this into the code?

is there a SQL statment i could write that would sum each column and allow me to then access each sum individually
i.e
Dim objCmd As New OleDb.OleDbCommand("SELECT SUM(expression) FROM orderForm WHERE OrderDate=@OrderDate", objConn)
is there anything i can replace expression with such that all the columns in orderForm could be summed and returned as one record
or is there a way to replace expression with something that would allow me to just keep changing the paramater so i could continuously reexectute the same command w/o having to create a new command for each column

I need a way to read all the rows in one column from an Excel file that the user picks from a fileupload control. I tried saving the excel file on the webserver with the upload control and then opening it with a OleDbConnection but that fails when running it from the webserver and gives the error:
Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.OleDb.OleDbPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
This works fine when just running it localhost, so i figured it might be a problem with security level at the webserver which i cant change. Instead i tried doing it with a streamreader direct from the fileupload control and because theres no need for saving the excel file on the server, but im not sure how to query the rows i need this way.

Here is the query I have now which returns over 2 million records:
[Code]....
This works, but the result is littered with many rows that contain the same SSN. So how do I return only one row for each ssn? I cant use distinct because all of the other columns are already always different, this would return the same as above.

I'm trying to filter a DataView to return all the rows whose column x starts with a number: The following works in SQL Server:
select *
from dbo.Page
where Name like '[0-9]%'
However, when I try this:
dataView = new DataView( someDataTable, "Name LIKE '[0-9]%'", "Name ASC", DataViewRowState.CurrentRows);
I get "invalid parameter [0-9] with Operator Like" error message. What is the correct syntax to achieve my goal?

public void saveOptionalCourses( ArrayList coursesAdded, int studentID)
{
StudentOptionalCoursesXRef XRefObject = new StudentOptionalCoursesXRef();
using (var EntityObject = new SchoolProjectEntities2())
{
foreach ( string list in coursesAdded)
{
XRefObject.StudentDetails = EntityObject.StudentDetails.Where(c => c.StudentID == studentID).First();
XRefObject.OptionalCourses = EntityObject.OptionalCourses.Where(c => c.OptionalCourseName == list).FirstOrDefault();
EntityObject.AddToStudentOptionalCoursesXRef(XRefObject);
}
EntityObject.SaveChanges();
}
with this above method and could save only last row that am returning remaining rows are iterated but are not saving on to database

I'm trying to figure out how to update multiple rows in my Directory table, when a user changes their Street Number or Street Name in their profile. They can add multiple users to a directory and each user they add to the directory has this primary users UserId in it. So if the primary user changes their address, I want it to update the address for all the users they listed in the directory as well. I'm adding this to the On_Click in the Code Behind, so when they click to update their profile, it fires this function as well. This code may be way off, but here's what I have right now:

I wrote in subject "Is there any way to UPDATE multiple rows WHERE UserID = @UserID_ArrayList" For example I have an Arraylist like this:
Dim UserID_ArrayList As New ArrayList
UserID_ArrayList.add("100")
UserID_ArrayList.add("150"
UserID_ArrayList.add("200")
Now I have to UPDATE some columns inside those 3 records WHERE UserID = @UserID_ArrayList I'm sure it can be done somehow?

Im struggling with a way to bind multiple rows of sql data to specific controls, what im trying to acheive is having a list of questions / answers in my SQL db and loading them into my web form to build a questionaire.
The data i load into the form depends on criteria like which questionaire is it (there will be 2 seperate ones) and what language should it be loaded in, this will be controlled using drop down lists and passing these parameters to the SQL select statement.
The problem i have is i am unsure which method to pull the data out of the question column in my table, and bind it to seperate controls row by row, should i use a SQLDataReader or load the data into a dataset, or run a stored procedure to pull the data?
Which is the best way to get data from sql and bind it to controls in this situation?
For example:
label1.text = sqlcolumn1.row1.value;
label2.text = sqlcolum1.row2.value;
Etc...

I am writing an SQL query in which that I will need to perform a sub select on a table, which will usually return multiple rows. I need to be able to join together the results of a certain field from all the rows into one field to output. Is this possible, and how?
For example, if the SQL query returns
id | field
1 | test1
2 | test2
3 | test3
I need the outputted field to be "test1 test2 test3".

I am accepting query/queries from user (our support team) in a text box where user can enter only one query or multiple queries. I need to display result of all queries entered in the textbox. If it is SELECT statement then result of that statement in grid which is done. If UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE then total number of rows affected which is also done but if only one UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE statement is entered in the textbox.
If user enters 2 UPDATE statements and then a SELECT statement then how can I get number of rows affected for individual UPDATE statements just like SQL Server Qury Analyzer displays messages in its result pane.
e.g.
(6 row(s) affected) -- first UPDATE statement
(4 row(s) affected) -- second UPDATE statement
(16 row(s) affected) -- for SELECT statement (grid will also be displayed along with these messages).
I tried almost everything, SqlDataSource (returns count of first statement only), SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery and DataAdapter.Fill (returns count of last statement only).

I have one big DataTable with X rows. I want to select Y rows from it and bind them to a new ViewList. While doing it, I want to delete these rows from the DataTable (Having X - Y rows).
What is the best and fast way to do it?
I don't know if it is better to create a new DataTable to have the Y and after that bind them to a ViewList or something else?
I'm also looking for example in code how to select/delete rows from DataTable.

I can't get the total from the row of the grid as I enter in the cells of the first row. Doesn't SelectedIndexChanged fire asI leave each cell?
I set a break point in the code and it's not stopping there.
<asp:GridView ID="GrdDynamic" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
onrowdatabound="GrdDynamic_RowDataBound"
onrowediting="GrdDynamic_RowEditing"
onselectedindexchanged="GrdDynamic_SelectedIndexChanged" SelectedIndex="1"
AutoPostBack="True">
</asp:GridView>
protected void GrdDynamic_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
double total = 0;
for (int colIndex = 0; colIndex < 16; colIndex++)
{
if (GrdDynamic.Rows[0].Cells[colIndex].Text != "")
total += Convert.ToDouble(GrdDynamic.Rows[0].Cells[colIndex].Text);
}
GrdDynamic.Rows[0].Cells[16].Text = total.ToString();

I have a page in which i need to show data in the form of a grid. Each row in the grid is made up of 2 sub-rows, the first sub-row consists of a dropdown, a textbox & a textarea. Whatever is entered in these controls should be displayed in the second sub-row in the form of labels at runtime (i.e. using javascripts)
There can be multiple rows like this. The grid would have a max of 30 row, not more than that. create this which one would be better, in terms of performance & complexity, a GridView or a DataRepeater?
