DataSource Controls :: Unable To Use EntLib 5 Data Access Application Block With ObjectDataSources
Feb 9, 2011
my page is very simple, one gridviews and one ObjectDataSource.here's my code :
<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/site.Master" AutoEventWireup="true"
CodeBehind="default.aspx.cs" Inherits="cHospital._default" %>
[code]...
I also posted my question on another web site, one suggestion I got is move my codes to codebehind
(http://entlib.codeplex.com/Thread/View.aspx?ThreadId=245208)
But this is ObjectDataSources, my understanding is everything have to stay in Class file.

I am making use of 3-Tier architecture while making my project. And in Data Access Layer I am making use of application block, but application gets a connection string from web.config; but ClassLibrary of Data Access Layer doesn't contain web config file. How can I access connection string from Data Access layer?

I would like to write an MVC application that accesses multiple data stores (SQL Server, MySQL, Cloud based, etc.).Most of the examples I see use LINQ to SQL for their data access but I read somewhere that LINQ only supports SQL Server - it may have been an old post.I was wondering what the best way to access these different data stores would be. Can I use the Data Access Application Block from MVC to access these data stores?

I've been attempting to walk through the "Creating a Data Access Layer" tutorial found [URL] I create the DB connection, create the typed dataset and table adapter, specify the sql, etc. When I add the code to the presentation layer (in this case a page called AllProducts.aspx) I am unable to find the NorthwindTableAdapters.ProductsTableAdapter class. I tried to import the NorthwindTableAdapters namespace, but it is not showing up. Looking in the solution explorer Class View confirms that there is a Northwind class, but not the namespace I'm l ooking for. I've tried several online tutorials that all have essentially the same steps, and I'm getting the same results.

I have created a handler in IIS7 on a Sample Web site and it works fine .That is i go to the InetMgr Open the Handler Mappings section create a new handler etc. It works fine .
Now i want the create the same handler on an web application which runs on an IIS6 and am unable access my handler . I have tried adding this under the httpHandlers section
<add verb="*" path="SampleHandler.discb"
type="Sample.Web.SampleHandler, Sample.Web" />
Im working on an IIS6 Asp.Net web application but on development server i have IIS7 installed. Nothing works . Am i missing out anything ?
Well this is the message i get when i open the Handler Mappings section
The applicattion is in an application pool that is running in classic mode , so you can manage ISAPI extensions and native modules that are mapped to paths . you must manage managed handlers (system.web/httpHandlers) directly in the configuration file.

We need to secure how our web application access our SQL 2008 database on our hosted server. Any pointers where this is covered in detail? We have the following questions:1. right now the network service account runs the application pool containing our application in IIS. Should we define a local windows user account to run this application in IIS 6? Should we switch to Windows authentication?

How/Can I Set the try, catch statment to catch a specific Error. For example i am getting the following error:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Incorrect syntax near '='., [SqlException (0x80131904): Incorrect syntax near '='.]
Basicly The = is part of my SQL string which points to a table that currently doesent exist. I want something like catch ex as SqlException (0x80131904) or catch ex as SqlException = "0x80131904" or even catch ex as System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException = "Incorrect syntax near '='." I just want something so i can put "table doesnt exist" in the error message without having to use:
catch ex as System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException
As i have other code on my page that could result in a different type of sqlExeption.

Here is the code for my page:
[Code]....
For some reason I seem to be unable to update my DB through the datasource. Is there anything obvious as to why this wouldn't be working?
I even added static values to the update string to see if this works but it still has an issue.

I have my data table generated dynamically binded to grid view. (Autogeneratecolumns true)
in my UI its displaying the column headers.
am not able to access it by grdname.HeaderRow.Cells[0].Text
am not able to get the names from the columns also.
since am binding the columns dynamically i am not able to get access to all the columns
and am able to get only 2 columns which i have mentioned in my aspx which are the command buttons edit and delete.
am trying to access all these in Gridview_RowCommand event. need to get the value in the (dynamic) column named Id for the row on which the edit or delete button is clicked. since it doesnt have a header am unable to access it bcoz i dont know the index of the cell too..

I'm currently doing a program to store some data like a Login/ Registration page. Datas include username, age, password etc.I created a save button to save the datas into the accdataset.Now when I start debugging, and i type in the information requires (Name,password etc..), and i click on the save button,the information i wrote will be shown in the acctabledatagrid,<- It have been working correctly till now.However, whenever when i stop debugging and edit the program, the datas will be clear and there will be no information shown on the acctabledatagrid.So I'm quite stuck here as I am unsure where my problem lies.

I have three tables:
Colour(Colour ID, Colour)
DogColours(ColourID, Dog ID)
Dog(Dog ID, Breed)
Colour ID and Dog are primary keys.
I have three web forms, one for each table. Dog colours consists of data that is already in the system from the other two tables. It basically joins a breed to a colour. My problem is this:
When i try delete a dog which is being used in dog colours the program crashes. How can i prevent this crash?
The second problem, the data source in the dog colours web form has the insert, update and delete tick boxes greyed out in the 'configure the select statement' so i am unable to delete a colour and dog joined together. how can i delete something in the dog colours?

I need to connect two ObjectDataSource tags.First will have a query string parameter and the second has a parameter, which is one of the fields in the result set of the first one. The relationship is one-to-one, so I can't put second one in a grid and use control parameter
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="OrderObjectDataSource" runat="server"
SelectMethod="GetById"
TypeName=" MyProject.Business.Repositories.OrderRepository"[code]....
This does not work because AdvertiserObjectDataSource_OnSelecting is called before OrderObjectDataSource_OnSelected.

I have downloaded Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and am trying to use LINQ. In order to do that I have added a LINQ to SQL class to the web site and have dragged tables from the database view into the LINQ designer, which worked fine.But..When I add: using System.Data.Linq;to MainPage.xaml.cs, I receive an error:
Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Data' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?)Even although I have references to System.Core, System.Data, System.Data.Linq in the website references.

Is there any way to make asp.net objectdatasources to be type safe. Meaning I get a compile time error if parameters or datatypes change during refactoring?Does anyone know any other method? Or can recommend any other way to do it? I find manual binding tedious. What is other people doing?

I have the following structure 3 Dropdown Boxes, the 2nd and 3rd dependant on the 1st and when I change the first combo the pages refreshes with error I am assuming it's happening when posting back. I have nothing in my code behind file for this page so far.
Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.
This is a very Basic application that I am creating using Visual Basic and ASP.Net 3.5. Am using a SQL Datasource have searched for this error some of the answers seem extremely complex and I can't figure them out, surely a simple tasks like this has to be easy to bind back to the database from several drop down lists.

i have users who can logon to my site. I don't use the asp.net provider (i have my own user storage) but do use forms authentication. No i want to block users from log on twice to my app. Now what is the simplest thing to accomplish this? I thought about an extra field in the database in the user record but is there something simpler? is there a sort of 'session' for the entire application where i can remember who is logged on (and which is not flushed at a random time)? maybe in the cache (but the cache is sometimes flushed) i've seen an example where a file with the username was written to disk (and removed when logged out)
EDIT:
Good question was: what do you mean with logon twice. I mean when a user logs on on another computer or when another person logs on with the same credentials
