Im using enterprise Manager data access code block and have a table in sql server 2005 with a column type of 'bigint'
when querying against this table and adding in a parameter, there isnt a long datatype available, so is Int32 an equivalent ?

I have created my database in SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and now planning to tranfer this databse to another server, But this other server is SQL Server Standard Edition, So if i try to attach my database which is created in Enterprise Edition will get sucesully connected to Standard Version ? or i will get any error message or i am doing something wrong ? This situation is fine or Version should be kept same ?

i am trying to deploy my database and my asp.net application on a server. the administration tool for domain is Plesk. i have to use ASP.NET Enterprise Manager to deploy my database. I tried to run sql scripts but it seems that it doesnt support several keywords. i created the tables using a script but now i can't create the sprocs using scripts. it doesnt allow me to create multiple sprocs at a time. i have about more than 200 sprocs. and its not possible to create one by one.how to run scripts in asp.net enterprise manager,

View 6 RepliesI attempted to change a table columns data type and in the process caused a lot of issues. I had a date column in one of my tables and stupidly changed it from varchar to date. When I tried to run queries on it I keep getting the 'cant find column 3 error'. Now that tables structure is :

So column 4 is actually the date column. All other queries work for this table. I then tried to change it back and then copied all data to a new table and now I am using the new table and converting the dates as needed but I am still getting the error.

The end goal is to be able to reference our address book, and give the user the ability to select a Manager, which then in turn would return all the results for all the users under that manager. This information is stored in our Exchange servers address book. ie when you select on a person's name in Outlook, then Organization, you get their manager, so when you select the Manager on this site, I want it to return the results for all of his/her members.

I have a table for labels in SQL server, in this table i hold all the text for all the labels i use in my website. The reason i am doing this is because i creating a bilingual site, which will display two languages on one page at the same time. The other language being arabic.
So what this means is that whenever a page loads, it needs to go and fetch the text of the labels from the database to display them on the page.
the way i have done this is that i have created a class called labels, and in this class i have created two methods, one called GetEnglishLabel(ID) and the Other Called GetArabicLabel(ID). Both methods take an ID, which corresponds to the id in the sql server database. Each of these functions is using LinqToSql to get the text for the label for the given ID.
My problem is that for every label i need to call this function, so as you might imagine on one page i might have over a hundred calls to these functions on page_load.

how to access data from the database using datareader , entity beans and rendering data on to presentation layer.
As I know, we can use INSERT INTO (....) SELECT FROM command to select data from one table and can insert into another table.
Now I need instead of 1 table, I want to select data from one table and Insert into another 2 tables.
Shall I write another INSERT INTO (..) SELECT FROM command or is there any other way?

I have a column in SQL Server 2008 called MapLocation which is stored as the geography data type. This column is used to store the location of a building in one table, and the location of landmarks in another table. I have to list all landmarks within 4 miles of a building.
I have a clustered primary key on an automatically generated int column in each table. I assume that I need to create a spatial index on the MapLocation column in the landmarks table. This I guess would aid finding all landmarks within 4 miles.
My problem is that I am not sure what settings to use for this spatial index. I have set the spatial index to have the following settings:
Cells per object: 16 Level 1: Medium Level 2: Medium Level 3: Medium Level 4: Medium Tessalation Scheme: Geography gridAre these the best settings? Am I doing the right thing?
I have a database that has several timestamp fields. One is addTime, another is editTime, and the final one is subTime. depending on which part of the web application the user uses, it will update one of these fields. I know in a sql command in the code behind you can use the getDate() function to populate a value, but will the sql command automatically parse it to the SmallDateTime datatype in the database?

1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.
I want to change one of my table columns data type. Now the column data type is varchar and i want to change it to float. Updated all the column data to numeric and tried to convert the datatype with the following syntax
alter table vibration_values alter column dis_v float
but getting the error as
Error converting data type varchar to float.
The statement has been terminated.
Suprisingly every thing worked well in sqlserver 2005 and not working in sqlserver 2000.
