I have Requirement to update the label text as we are processing the code (Long running).
Example:
I have Label and button on aspx page.
On button Click Iam calling the AppCode which is going to do long work for me.
I want to update the label text from the appcode (which should reflect in the page then and there.)
I have tryed to pass the text value to the label but it shows the changed text only after the event for the button click is finished.
I tryed using timer but as soon as i click the button the refreshing stops.
I tryed progress template and UpdateProgress without success. (I know we can update at the start and end of proccess using this)
I dont want to use iframe (I know we can do using iframe)
I have a detailsview which I am populating using a SQLDATASOURCE, which is bound to a table in a SQL db. Because the number of columns in the table will change, I am using SELECT * from [TABLENAME] to populate the view, this works fine.
My problem is that I need to also be able to update the table and I thought the best way was to generate the updatecommand in the code behind. This is no problem, code is as follows:

But the next stage is to create the relevant parameters for the update command. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? All of the information I have found for the updateParamater reference knowing the final value.
What I really need to do is the code behind equivalent of
<asp:Parameter Name="PARAMETERNAME" Type="Int32" />
Not sure whether this is possible.
Using a FormView with a SqlDataSource, I'm attempting to Update data
by calling a stored proc in code behind. I was having trouble getting parameters
using Update Parameters in the SqlDataSource, but found a working solution by
coding the parameters.
The problem now is I'm getting an "Updating is not supported by data source 'XYZ' unless UpdateCommand is specified'.
I have the following function that is trigered from an asp dropdownlist when an item is selected.

The script sets a url depending on the selection from the dropdownlist.
It all works ok, but then the update panel updates and the javascript photogallary breaks.
How do I prevent this from happening.
I am having a problem connecting to my SQL Server 2008 Express database with SQL Management Studio Express and from the website at the same time.
Everytime I want to view any pages in my site that access the database, I have to close management studio and restart the server for some reason or i get a failed login error message. Then when I want to go back to SSMS I get this error message:
Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc)
Additional Information: Unable to open the physical file c:..... Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)" (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5120)
Is it NOT possible to work on the database through SSMS at the same time as viewing pages in the website that access the database?
I sure hope that there is a work around or something for this.

After reimaging my hard drive, I reinstalled SQL Server Express 2008, this time using the Windows Platform Installer for the first time. Tried running websites within VS2008 and VS2010 and can't connect to database. Tried to turn on using Sql Server Config Manager. Won't turn on. Also tried to connect via Sql Server Management Studio 2008, but got this error:
A network-related or instance specific error occured....the server was not found or was not accessable.

I have one query which is not responding even after 4 minutes. But same query is when called from asp.net pages (though stored procedure), responds within 10 seconds. My Query:

I don't want to know the ways to optimize the query as I have already changed the query and now it responds within fraction of second. I just want to know that, why it was not reponding after 4 minutes in SQL Management Studio and responds in just 10 seconds when run from asp.net through stored procedure. I created a DataSet(right-click project-->add new item-->DataSet) and then a TableAdaptor to it with table from database. However, when i bring the project to others computer and run, it has error.
I look into the DataSet in xml and found that the path to database is actually on the computer that created the DataSet(C:DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGSUSERDESKTOPPROJECT NAMEAPP_DATADATABASENAME.MDF)
My database file is located at the App_data folder. May i know is there a way to config so that whenever i run the project on different computer, the path will auto change?
I have a query which is returning records like below which returns a list of tasks with a corresponding task type. there is a task table (wh_task) and a task type table (wh_task_type). What i want to achieve is a count of all the tickets per ticket type. So at the end of the query i will have a total for Administration / Maintenance tasks (1) and a total for Routine Maintenance Tasks (3). ** and all the other types *

I have a site that calls a long running stored procedure that eventually times out the UI. The procedure simply runs some logic in the database, and kicks of a secondary process. No data is ever returned to the UI, so I don't need the UI to wait for anything.Is there a way to call the stored procedure from the UI and move on without having the UI having to wait for the store procedure to complete?
View 4 RepliesI have a grid view with the delete option enabled. When the user clicks on delete, that entry in the database is deleted. However, each entry in my database corresponds to 2 images on the server. When that entry in the database is deleted, I also want to delete the images. (the images consist of the ID for that database entry plus "right.jpg", and "left.jpg") Is there a simple way to do this? My thoughts are that I need to run some additional code when the user clicks the delete button, but how can I trigger this code?

sing VS 2008 at a workstation, I have successfully developed a local, file-system ASP.NET 3.5 website. The wbesite included a membership page with Windows authentication and a web parts page. The SQL Server 2005 ASPNETDB database has been created at an IIS web servr. Using the ASP.Net development server of the workstation, both the membership Membership/WebParts pages at the local website worked very well.
Then, I copied the website to a virtual directory at the IIS web server and creates a remote website for the workstation. Under theASP.NET development server of the workstation, both membership and webparts pages of the remote website at the IIS web server also worked fine.
However, when running these web pages from the IIS web server machine, something wrong happened with the web parts page. (The membership page still worked very well.) For the ASPNETDB database at the IIS web server machine, there is an EXECUTE permission error on an ASPNET stored procedure.
What are the differences between the ASP.NET development server and IIS web sever, which caused the EXECUTE permission error on the ASP.NET S.P.? How to find and fix the errors?
Can the select command of a SqlDataSource be given by code in the code behind file. Also by calling the SqlDataSource.Select can the select statement be executed?

Further, what if what I want is to actually use a child property of the property in question? Now after 8 months of hosting it we have to include updations in 6 pages and addition of 15 new asp.net pages. View 4 RepliesI have an application which was running totally fine some days earlier. The problem began since the day i have taken SVN update from server. Its saying "error 404, file not exists", it just removes application name from url & only leaves "http://localhost/1980". Whatever changes i try in web.config it has no effect. It just stick to this error. I copied my previous web.config also but no luck.I tried to comment all lines which are redirecting user to any other page in case of error also. Its happening in my colleagues copy also.
