DataSource Controls :: For Each Row In Select Statement - Exec Stored Procedure

Apr 21, 2010

Ive been banging my head against the wall for the last 2 days with this query I am trying to produce. I have an application that creates requests and these requests have status codes dependant on how far along in the process they are : new request, awaiting approval, approved, in progress, complete When a request is moved to the next status, it Inserts a row into an auditing table, so we can track who moved it onto the next status, along with a timestamp. There are Service Level Agreements in place that mean that a request that is currently 'In Progress' must be actioned to 'Complete' within 5 days. I have been asked to create a query that will return all records that fall outside of this SLA. My main problem is trying to Select the time from the audit log for 'In Progress' and 'Complete' status codes. It would be simple if i only had to find one of the times, as i could add a "WHERE StatusCode = 'complete' clause to the query My Audit table is structured as follows:

[RequestID] [Request Status] [UserID] [CreateDate]

So far I have been successful in querying the table by using the DATEDIFF() function as below:

SELECT
DateDiff
(day,
( SELECT
top 1 CreateDate
FROM audit_tblRequest
WHERE RequestStatus
= 'In Progress'
AND RequestID
=
@RequestID Order
by CreateDate
DESC)
,(SELECT
top 1 CreateDate
FROM audit_tblRequestWHERE RequestStatus
= 90AND RequestID
=@RequestID
Order
by CreateDate
DESC)
)

This will return the difference in days to me, however, i cannot figure out how to integrate this into a query that will be run across all RequestIDs. I was wondering if there was any way to bundle the DateDiff function into a stored Procedure and be able to call it For Each RequestID in the result set I would need to pass the requestID as a parameter, and also add some If Else logic to only return records outside of the 5 Day SLA. Im sure there are some patches in the above logic, but my brain is about to explode and I needed to type it all out before calling it a day for today.

DataSource Controls :: SQLDataAdapter Postback / Create A Class, DataCommon, To Contain All SQL Data Manipulation Functions?

Apr 22, 2010

I'm trying to create a class, DataCommon, to contain all my SQL Data manipulation functions. I've created a Subroutine called Init that initializes a SQLDataAdapter:

[Code]....

From my other classes I am creating an instance of DataCommon, calling Init, and calling another subroutine in DataCommon that pulls data from SQL and loads the data into my dataset. This part is working great -- no problems at all. I'm loading three different Datatables in the Dataset with no issues.

At this point, I'll perform my various manipulations on the datatables -- add/delete/modify rows -- again with no problems. All of this is creating postbacks...and this is where my problem begins. After I've done all my manipulations to the data and am ready to update my SQL tables, I have to re-initialize my SQLDataAdapter. I thought I could do something like:
[Code]....

But I get the error: Exception inserting Class. Thread was being aborted.

In my initial data load from SQL, each datatable is getting loaded from a single SQL table, so I was hoping to use the autogenerated Update/Insert/Delete statements by the SQLDataAdapter. As a test, as soon as I filled the dataset initially, I added a new row to one of the datatables and used the SQLDataAdapter.Update() method before a postback occurred, and it worked perfectly.

So, with all that being said, I guess my question is, how do I reconnect the table mappings between my SQLDataAdapter and dataset to autogenerate the updates after a postback occurs? I've tried researching this, but I get confused after reading about FillSchema vs TableMappings vs everything else I've read about.

DataSource Controls :: Using A Variable As A Parameter In A SQL Statement

Mar 25, 2010

I've done some SSIS package work in the past, but am by no means an expert.

I want to use an SSIS package to do the following:

1. Get the file name of the newest file in a windows folder (using a filename template like his: filename_ *.txt where the * part is always a date in the format of yyyy-mm-dd.

2. Use that file name in later portions of the SSIS package by reading the file and transferring data from it to a SQL table using a Data Flow task.

and use the result (which should be the name of the newest file) to open that file and pull data out of it and into a 2nd SQL table. I admit, I'm not sure how to use the dynamic result of this SELECT query as the file name in a flat file connection manager.

DataSource Controls :: Sql Statement To Get One Record Each From Two Tables?

Feb 2, 2010

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place - I have a feeling it can't be too difficult but I can't seem to figure it out. I've come across this problem many times and I've never solved it. I would imagine the scenario is commonplace - I have a table of Products with a PK of ProductID, and a table of related images with a FK of ProductID. Each product can have many images, but for my initial display I want to display one product record with one image record. I have a Sequence field in the Images table and I could pick the lowest one. Right and left Joins return too many records - if I have three images for Product 1 then Product 1 is listed three times.

I've gotten around this before using a flag in the Products table, or listing an image in both tables but I'm sure there must be a SQL statement that can get the information that I need.

DataSource Controls :: Update Statement Using Linq To SQL?

Jun 22, 2010

I have a method to execute two "Update" sql statements.

The first one works fine and the second one I can't get to work for nothing.

Here is the entire method:

[Code]....

The error I am getting is "Incorrect syntax near '05'."

It is occuring on the next to the last line which is:

dc.ExecuteCommand(sql);

I update the variable "sql" first so I can debug. At the time it crashes the value of sql is:

"Update Blogs set Status = 'Archived', ArchiveDate = 06/22/2010 05:14:46 PM Where (BlogID != 1) and (Status = 'Published') and (AuthorID = 9e37e028-c205-4903-920e-e8643b30a724)"

It appears to be the ArchiveDate that is causing the problem here. The "05" is the hour of the time portion. Both ArcgiveDate and PublishDate are defined exactly the same in the database. If you look at the first dc.ExecuteCommand it does exactly the same
thing with PublishDate (DateTime column) in the same table and it works just fine.

Then I modifed the code and remove the ArchiveDate from the sql statement then I get the error:

"Incorrect syntax near 'e028'."

which as you can see is part of the AuthorIDs value in the where clause. So I am assuming both the date and the Guid / Author ID is causing problems. I have tried enclosing the values in quotes but I just cant make this work even though it seems to be working fine in other places.

I even remove the code for the author ID and left in the code for the ArchiveDate and it still does not work so I have proved that both are causing a problem.

Then the user clicks on a Submit button and the result fills a Repeater table. How do I do this, and how do I configure the button to launch the SelectCommand?
