View 4 Repliesinstead of using gridview to insert student marks (I have hundreds of students) thought I used the Excel:
1) allow managers of each module after authentication to download the excel file (containing the students enrolled in the given module), the excel file ted is generated by the following code: Id_student ____ maks of subject1 -------- ----maks of subject2
[Code]....
But in this code I do not know how to:
* Add the following condition: the student'marks is between 0 and 20.
* Calculate the average of this module : sum (coeff * mark) / sum (coeff)
2) Allowing responsable module send me the file containing the data (but then I do not know how)
3) Using data, by sending them to the database to calculate averages.
I'm still struggling with my scenario. I have looked everywhere for a solution and cannot find a solution. I am using C# and ASP.NET and I need to export data to an Excel spreadsheet.
I have a list of applications that contains Application objects. Each Application object has a status ID. When I export these applications to Excel then I need a column with a drop down/combo box in it. In this drop down/combo box should be a list of all the statuses from the database. And then I need the status to be selected to that of the application's status ID.
Another question is also with regards to the above scenario. When the user downloads the Excel document then the user can change the status of each application by selecting a different value in the drop down. I will need to upload this spreadsheet and loop through the rows and get the values of the columns and the value of the selected item in the drop down/combo box. How would you do this? Is this possible?
I may not use COM components, so I tried to go with EPPlus or NPOI (it does not have to be these 2) but it doesn't seem like they support my scenario. How would I be able to achieve my scenario? Once again, it doesn't have to make use of EPPlus and NPOI.
I have been facing a problem since last two days, actually i want to import some data from a file (file can be csv, txt, sql, xls etc) and after some filtration, export it into csv file. Basically i want to know whether a tool which provides an environment to import different types of file or data where we can perform filtration of data with sql query and then data could be save into file(file can be csv, txt, sql, xls etc)
View 1 RepliesI'm writing a reporting tool that, as a starting point, needs to create a DB table from a csv file. This csv file will have been created from exporting data from our old system (with the new system being the reporting tool) and can have up to 300 columns of data. I've been trying as follows:
[Code]....
but am finding that only the first 255 columns get put in. I am assumg that the Jet driver is the one that is limiting the columns, or is there a registry setting somewhere that'll solve it quickly?
Is there another approach that'll work? I've though of the following, but as it'll take a while to recode and test each time I thought I'd ask the experts first!!
BULK INSERT: would mean that I'd need to pre-create the table first, but if the issue is with the Jet driver I'd surely get the same problem? Use a datatable: it seems pretty fiddly and probably a lot slower, but I guess I could read into a dataset and then bind that to a table to insert? Again the table would need to exist and the driver that I use to read from the csv would be the issue? Do it one row at a time in a loop in the code: assuming I can read the file as text, I could then split the data in code into an array and create a insert statement (again to an existing table) for each row. With what could be 1000s of rows I can't imagine that this is the fastest solution!
Some time back i posted for help in uploading CSV file to DB. With the assistance of other members, i was able to set that up on a test page and got the functionality working.. Now project is coming to the end and need to take that code / logic and incorporate with our application. On certain forms, we need to allow the user to export / import via a CSV file.. So this question is muti part for each function.
#1 Export = Since each form is unique, how can i setup the page to export that forms data that is currently in the DB? (I've used this control before [URL] and worked great) for excel. This may work fine for exporting the data out of the db for the user.
#2 Import, if the above is used or some other solution to export the specific table data, is there anyway to validate that the csv file that is being uploaded contains all the columns and is in the correct order? I mean if they were to export the data, but come back few days later to import it, and didnt realize that they selected a csv for another page or maybe they picked the right file, but while editing it they removed a comma or entered some data that would throw the format out of wack.. just looking for a way to read the selected file to import and compare to the table it is suppose to go into and make sure that the columns match and if possible, check for duplicates. I have read thru the forum and found ways to read the file into memory, set the data to a datatable or dataset and working with it that way.
So really looking for some good examples of being able to allow the export of data to .CSV and then allowing the data to be imported back into the table.(with validation in place before the import occurs)

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

My application is running in IIS 7.0 with DefaultAppPool. In my web.config, i have used this authentication,
<authentication mode="Windows"/>
I have to create one page where user will upload the excel file in SQl Server and system should check following things
1.Sheet Name should be always sheet1
2.System should check the column names
3.System should show the message that these many rows has been loaded
Not that it should matter.. the 2nd value in the csv is an IP address.. its in the file as 192.168.7.25(just an example), but gets read as 192.1687, if the file is setup as delimited in the connection string, does that have any restraints on the data being read? When i open the file in notepad, the comma is at the end of the IP address, when i open it in excel it is in its own column.. so what could be causing this? Because of this issue with the truncation, that is what is causing the primary key issue.. because there are other values that are similar like these:
192.168.7.25
192.168.7.26
192.168.7.45
because if the issue, it passes each one of those as 192.1687 Here is the table structure, in case it helps resolve this issue.

I know how to do this if I save the file first, then open it using OleDB, BUT I would rather not save it first.

Im stuck with is the database file included in the template, i ave been unable to import it into MSSQL using 'My Little Admin' which is the control panel provided by my hosting provider. Looking through the file with notepad it seems to contain the information for several tables but i cannot figure out for the life of me how i import it with 'My Little Admin'

View 1 Repliesimport/export wizard in 2000 had lots of options.
I could copy databases without a care in the world. Including constraints, stored proc., AND the data, etc.
Now, with v2008, the wizard is dumbed down too much. It's a "stupid" copy function that fails on the first constraint it meets.
"Copy database.." is not an option here: it needs sysadmin on both source and destination server.
Re-adding the constraints manually is not an option either: the database is WAY too large.
I'm actually hoping there is a temporary bug in the import/export wizard. Each option (and you have THREE...) returns with a new error.
Googling, I found I am not alone:
http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/itanswers/sql-server-2008-export-data-problem/
This post is exactly my situation. Here's what his post says: (bolded key parts)
I'm trying to get used to sql server 2008 having been forced to upgrade by my isp. I need to back up my key db on a weekly remote schedule, so have been trying to use ssms to export data from my remote db to a local copy.
Firstly I created a new empty db on the local machine. Then I scripted the structure of the db on the remote machine and ran the resulting query on the local machine to copy the table structure into the new db. This gave me empty target tables to map to (see
below).
I used the export data wizard and selected my remote tables, then highlighted the tables to be copied and used the Edit Mappings option. Here I need to do two things, firstly checking'Enable Identity Insert' (because I have a unique id in most tables which is identity seeded, and I've read that if this is not checked sql server will helpfully renumber your entire table, rendering all your foreign key references useless). Secondly I need to decide what to do with the data already in the destination table. SQL 2k DTS simply dropped the destination table and recreated it. SQL 2008 will either keep the structure and delete the rows therein, or drop the table and recreate it. Because I intend to save this package and call it on a schedule in the future, I need to choose one of these options, because next time the target db won't be empty.
If I choose the delete rows option, when the package runs I get the following error when the process gets ot the first table with an identity ID which is used elsewhere in the db as a foreign key.
Error 0xc002f210: Preparation SQL Task 4: Executing the query "Truncate TABLE [dbo][tblCompany] failed with the following error 'Cannot truncate table tblCompany because it is being referenced by a foreign key constraint. Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "Result Set" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly or connection not established correctly'
Half a dozen preceding tables did seem to transfer fine, but the process falls down on this one table. What I want is for the process to ignore constraints whilst it does the backup.
Undeterred I tried the other option, dropping each table and creating a new version. This time I get the error:
Error 0cx0202009: Data Flow Task 1: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source MS SQL Server Native Client 10.0. Hresult 0x80004005 Description "The statement has been terminated".
An OLE DB record is available. Source MS SQL Server Native Client 10.0. Hresult 0x80004005 Description "Violation of Primary Key constraint 'PK_LoginClasses'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.LoginClasses'.
Then I try unchecking the Enable Identity Insert option to see what happens. This happens:

I can't see any more options to try. So how do I get SSMS 2008 to do what Enterprise Manager 2k did with no drama?
