Im using the MySql Membership-,Role- and ProfileProvider. If the mysql-server goes offline the site crashes (ofcourse). But when the mysql-server gets back online the site still crashes, complaining that the Role provider cant get initialized because of missing or incorrect schema. If I then make a meaningless change to the web.config (like adding a space somewhere) the site works again.
View 2 RepliesMy company is planning on having some planned down time, because of some server migrations. Their are about 20 different web applications (internet, and intranet). Any of which can go down at any one time because of the server migration of applications.
So, does anyone know if their is a way to provide a generic message to users if a particular application is down? Like a popup message box, or generic page for that particular application? The idea is to not write 20 different popups or 20 different Fyi-Web pages. But one single page or popup informing that the application is down.
We have a huge ASP.NET web application which needs to be deployed to LIVE with zero or nearly zero downtime. Let me point out that I've read the following question/answers but unfortunately it doesn't solve our problems as our architecture is a little bit more complicated.
Let's say that currently we have two IIS servers responding to requests and both are connected to the same MSSQL server. The solution seems like a piece of cake but it isn't because of the major schema changes we have to apply from time to time. Because of it's huge size, a simple database backup takes around 8 minutes which has become unacceptable, but it is a must before every new deploy for security reasons.
Currently the best idea we came up is buying another SQL server which would be set up as a replica of the original DB. From the load balancer we would route all new traffic to one of the two IIS webservers. When the second webserver is free of running sessions then we can make deploy the new code. Now comes the hard part. At this point we would go offline with the website, take down the replication between the two SQL servers so we directly have a snapshot of the database in a hopefully consistent state (saves us 7.5 of the 8 minutes). Finally we would update the database schema on the main SQL server, and route all traffic via the updated webserver while we are upgrading the second webserver to the new version.
also share your thoughts regarding this solution. Can we somehow manage to eliminate the need for going offline with the website? How do bluechip companies with mammuth web applications do deployment?

Another requirement is to eliminate manual intervention, so in fact we are looking for a way which can be applied in an automated way.
Let me just remind you the requirement list:
1. Backup of database
2a. Deploy of website
2b. Update of database schema
3. Change to updated website
4 (optional): easy way of reverting to the old website if something goes very wrong.
I'm thinking of a architectural way of displaying messages in our application (Flex-Asp.NET-SqlServer), mostly messages that announce for instance a downtime.Currently I was thinking of creating a table FlexMessage that holds the name of a message (based on that name I now where to put in Flex) and the value (the message itself). As a result however, someone will have to create these messages and also delete them when they are no longer valid. So, thinking further, I thought of creating messages having a startdate and enddate, so an interval in which they need to be displayed. Like this, someone could login to the management part and create a message that needs to be displayed from a certain date until a certain date.I could also hardcode it in the Flex Application, but that would mean putting a new build online (of the swf) each time something changes with a certain message.

The page works if I write: where LetId=4 instead of @0. But if I leave the variable I get the following error: The column name cannot be resolved to a table. Specify the table to which the column belongs. [ Name of ambiguous column = LetId ] If I specify the table name LetId_PadalecId. LetId=@0, then I get the parameter missing error. How could I tell the server which LetId I want?
I have a requirement where I have to transfer a user from Web Site 1 on Server A to web Site 2 on Server B.
On Web Site 1, I have to provide controls to enter user id and password and which have to be validated on Web Site 2 on server B, after validating them I have to redirect the user to Web site 2.
what is best way fo doing it. code examples are greatly appreciated.
Note: On Web Site 2, user login functionality is already existing and it is provided by ASP.Net login control, am not sure how to handle the user login process from two different places.
or is it the best way to move Web Site 2 from Server B to Server A so that, the same login controls will be shown using Iframe on Web Site A.

I have only put the recover password control on the web page I havn't added any formatting or code and all the other emails I have set to send work fine so can't see why the smtp setting would be wrong for this unless I need to add some code to my page.
I am really worried about this. I recently got hold on VS 2010. I had been working on a control when my VS 2010 crashed upon me. I terminated all of the applications that might be slowing down VS. To my horror when I restarted VS I had lost all of the coding and classes written within that control's code behind file which was SearchFilter.ascx.cs. IT shows the size of this file as 0KB. There nothing in it now. Does any one out there know how can I recover my file, it had almost over 700 lines of code. I would be really very grateful to you people out there.

The call is successfully made to the webmethod but I'm not able to access the parameters I passed to the webmethod inside of the "OnSucceeded" callback method. I need access to those params because I need to perform more tasks on the client side when the webmethod returns. I'm assuming that the params are returned inside "usercontext", but the value of that param is "null" How can I have access to those params?

I have the compiled output from a site which uses asp precompilation. The .aspx files are just a placeholder and there are .compiled files for each .aspx. I'm trying to reconstruct a site's .aspx files from the precompiled assemblies. I've looked in the compiled assemblies using reflector but reconstructing the .aspx looks like a bigger task than what I was hoping for. I have a relatively short timeframe for this.Does anyone know of any easy way? Are there any tools out there that can acheive this task?

Right now I am using the PasswordRecovery control, and i have security questions disabled. So all the user has to do is put their User Name, and hit submit, then their password is e-mailed to them.
But, a lot of my users forget their User Name, so right below I have a User Name recover section. The user inputs their e-mail address, and their corresponding user name shows up.
I would like to simplify this and just require the user's e-mail address to provide them their user name AND password.
I had something happen with my pc and had to do a system restore. This has caused some of the files in my project to be deleted. Is there a way to recover these files?
Is there anything I can do to prevent files from being deleted in the future if I ever have to do a restore again?

I don't understand why my site was running fine using the production SQL Server 2005 in my local PC when I include ASPNETDB.MDF file in App_Data in my local pc only ..if I remove file ASPNETDB.MDF from App_Data of my local pc ... the site stops working ...

I have deployed my site in Win 2003 server. In this, it copies file from Another server and copies it in local. It is working with my local computer, but not in the server i have deployed. I hope access credentials may be the first reason. But are there any other reasons for this.
